24.01.2022 Some photos taken of the interior in 2016

24.01.2022 Curious about your new neighbours? That’s right, AKR has moved into Campbelltown! We’re still settling in near Lochiel Park and thank Campbelltown Council and F...riends of Lochiel Park for a very warm welcome. We’ve had loads of interest from locals wanting to join AKR as a volunteer. The best way to do this is to visit akr.org.au/volunteer - be sure to include your name, number, address and availability. To volunteer you must be over 18, reasonably fit and prepared to obtain a police clearance if you don’t already have one. Our site is not open to the public. We plan to have an info session though this Sunday from 11 until 1 for Campbelltown locals wishing to sign up as volunteers. Please register your interest via the above link if you would like to come along. We’re looking forward to meeting our neighbours and hope to see many of you signing up to help koalas in need

23.01.2022 Lost for words. That was the response of the Heritage Council today which closed ranks on the original decision not to make a provisional State Heritage finding. Very disappointing. It will need a huge community mobilisation to get the SA Heritage Council to look at this again. This Facebook Page is one way to get that mobilisation. ... Like this page, get your family and friends to like it and share it. The original decision was a travesty and this second decision, which was not voted on, compounded it.

23.01.2022 Evening light in winter - Lochiel Park is always grand.

23.01.2022 What a lovely rendition of this beautiful house by Dan Nastasie, in delicate watercolour.

23.01.2022 Lochiel Park - Hobbs House is worth State Heritage listing. Like this page. Share it with all your friends. Ask your friends to like this page. Show the Heritage Council you care.

22.01.2022 The book Colonial Settlers on the River Torrens by Dr Roger Irvine was launched in February at the Campbelltown Historical Society meeting held in conjunction with Campbelltown City Council (SA). There was an audience of about 150 people. Get your hands on a copy for an excellent history of the life and times of this fabulous significant house. Read all about how it was at the heart of the development of horticulture and the citrus industry in South Australia. Available from the council.

19.01.2022 Good news. The Heritage Council SA has agreed to re-examine the case for State Heritage listing of Lochiel Park House. Like this page, Like this post, Share this post, Tag your friends and ask them to like this page, to help achieve this status. These are good reasons why it should be State Heritage listed: - It is a grand mansion in a uniquely grand setting... - Designed in 1875 by leading architect Daniel Garlick - Located within a historic landscape on the River Torrens - The home of eminent SA horticulturalist Jonah Hobbs - Became a major state institution for the care of children in the twentieth - Huge past and future significance for the SA community

16.01.2022 Lochiel Park House #Spring2017 looking magnificent.

15.01.2022 In the early 1990s Campbelltown Historical Society urged Campbelltown City Council to step in to restore Lochend House as a most important building of historica...l significance in the early 1990s. The photos show how derelict the first house built in the district had become. Since that that time work has occurred to restore the building and the Historical Society regularly opens the building to the public. A new building is currently being constructed next door which will provide kitchen and toilet facilities and electricity - something not available in the historically accurate Lochend House. It has taken 25 years to reach this point and members of the local community want to see a garden established sooner rather than wait many more years for that to happen. An opportunity exists as in the Masterplan passed by council in 2011, space for a Community run garden and orchard is included. That is why people from the local neighbourhood have put forward a proposal to plan and install a watering system, as a most important piece of infrastructure towards the establishment of a neighbourhood garden. Voting for funds from the Fund My Neighbourhood is scheduled to start this week. More details about this project will be made available on Tuesday. Please consider supporting this worthwhile project by voting for it.

13.01.2022 Notre Dame. Heritage matters.

11.01.2022 Did you know?... The Hobbs Swing Bridge was one of several suspension bridges across the River Torrens. This photo shows the bridge from the North-side of the River looking towards the 45-acre orange orchard surrounding Hobbs House (now Falcon Lodge), Paradise in the 1920s.

07.01.2022 Spring is such a good time to admire this heritage house.

05.01.2022 This is an amazing place with a brilliant historical frontage of old palm trees. It is Local Heritage listed but deserves a State listing because of its central role in the development of horticulture in SA.

04.01.2022 Despite its long history and importance for many reasons the State Heritage Council rejected the application to list this excellent house. The expert who reported argued against every one of the seven points and said that the community has no clear affiliation with this house. This was despite letters of support from the National Trust of SA, Campbelltown City Council, Campbelltown Historical Society, and Friends of Lochiel Park. The flawed report was a huge disappointment and it was evident that the council members relied very heavily on that alone.

04.01.2022 An application for State Heritage listing has been lodged by Dr Roger Irvine, Cr Jill Whittaker and the National Trust. It will be under consideration in the next few months.

03.01.2022 Some good news about the nomination for State Heritage. December 6 is the day to start a formal process. Heres hoping.

03.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who liked this page. Lets get real support to show the Heritage Council that people care about this beautiful, gracious 19th century wonder.

02.01.2022 There is a beautiful painting of Lochiel Park as part of the Campbelltown Art Show by @Dan Nastasie. There is a matching painting of Lochend House and a beautiful photo of Lochend as well. Check them out until 11 May or go to Lochend House Sunday 5 May from 2pm.

02.01.2022 It is looking very beautiful at the moment and the urban forest around is really growing.

01.01.2022 The trees in the wetlands are putting on a spring spurt.

01.01.2022 There is a new project at the house activating this space . Although many people will be curious about what is going on the carers who are looking after sick koalas ask that you do not visit without an appointment because the dangers of unintentionally transmitting fatal diseases to sick koalas is very real. The volunteers are not able to provide information about the project because they are managing a crisis. When things change a note can be put up here.
