22.01.2022 5 Reasons Why Hemp is Better tham Straw Bedding for Nesting Boxes: Many of us start out using straw or hay to line our nesting boxes, why? Probably because its a lot of what we have seen in those fairy tale pictures of a beautiful nest of chicken eggs right before we collect them. But after doing some research we discovered this is the worst thing to have in your chicken coops and especially where your girls will sit for longer periods of time while laying their eggs and whe...n they may go broody, and heres why: 1) Straw may contain mites and other nasty bugs that will infiltrate and infect your stock with unwanted parasites. 2) Straw or Hay can contain mould spores in the shaft of the hay, this can lead to respiratory infections and can be fatal when tearing young chicks. 3) Straw doesnt breakdown. It takes years to rot so is difficult to convert to mulch. 4) It heats up when damp and warm, therefore trapping bacteria and other nasty germs. 5) Hemp and or Pine Shavings are much more absorbent, and are the perfect by product to recycle and use as fertiliser/mulch for your garden. So if you need some hemp, we have plenty in stock, the bags are very compacted and youll be surprised far one bag will go....to arrange to collect your hemp pls text Astrid 0418898629 or PM us. The 12 litre bags are $12 and the 48 litre bags are $25. See more

19.01.2022 Make sure you have the sound up for this one!! You can hear the noise of the peacocks feathers vibrating as he does his little dance, I first thought that these 2 happy men were doing the thing for each other but when Uno our turkey started rubbing up against my leg I realised the show was for me!! And BTW, this amazing peacock does not belong to us, he just rocks up here every day outside our bedroom window, follows me around the house all day, is outside every window in whatever room I’m in at the time and does his fancy dance whenever I’m outside....so he is just like any crazy friend, rocks up unannounced, talks really loud and leaves his poop everywhere without cleaning up after himself....we have no idea who he belongs to...he goes home before sunset every day and is back around 6am every morning!!

19.01.2022 We r so pleased to share that we have 100% fertility rate with our first season of peacock eggs!! We r looking forward to hatching out some lovely chicks this season. If you would like to register your interest in owing and rearing peachicks please PM me....we have Indian Blue, Pieds and a beautiful white male as well....I’m sure we will be proud to hatch some amazing looking birds this season...

19.01.2022 Thank you Shannon for Entry #4! Wow some great ideas here. Thank you for entering our 2020 Coop of The Year Spring Competition where the winner will receive a $250 to Crown Casino. 18.01.2022 Look at these gorgeous Pekin Ducklings....straight out of the Hatcher today (yes we have a few Ancona Ducklings in the brooder as well).....let me tell you a little about the Pekin Duck.... it’s an American breed of domestic duck, raised primarily for meat. It derives from birds brought to The United States from China in the nineteenth century, and is now bred in many countries, and in all continents. The mallard was domesticated in China some 3000 years ago, and possibly muc...h earlier. Force feeding of ducks is documented from the tenth century, under the Five Dynasties. The Chinese were sophisticated breeders of ducks; among several breeds they created what was named shi-chin-ya-the, which roughly translates to ten pound duck, from which the American Pekin derives. The Pekin Duck is friendly and sociable and is able to imprint with human careers. They are very good egg layers producing 200 to 250 per year and commence laying from 4 to 6 months of age. Awesome for eating snails in your vege patch and orchards. We are open tomorrow (Thursday 12th) 9.30 to 4.30, Friday 13th 9am to 11am and Saturday and Sunday 14th and 15th November 10.30am to 3pm. Pls PM for further details if you are wanting to visit for any poultry supplies etc... See more

15.01.2022 Focus on the Light Sussex!! The Sussex variety originated in the historic county of Sussex, in the south-east England. It is among the oldest of British chicken breeds. In the early part of the twentieth century, until the advent of commercial hybrid strains at about the time of the Second World War, the Sussex and the Rhode Island Red were the two principal meat breeds in the United Kingdom. The Sussex was traditionally feared as a table bird, for meat production. The Light ...Sussex is a heavy breed, dual purpose utility bird with a friendly disposition. She is a very good layer producing 230 to 260 eggs per year and can lay up to 8 years. She will commence laying from about 6 to 9 months of age. The eggs are a cream coloured tinted egg. We are some very beautiful unsexed chicks here at the moment ranging from day olds to 5 weeks old semi off heat. We will be open all long weekend this weekend between 10.30am and 3pm. See more

12.01.2022 Whullah!! And just like that there were 3!!! This morning when I was turning the eggs I noticed a couple of the peafowl eggs had tiny pipping in the shells so I had to quickly get a hatching machine going, cut up some rubber meshing (you need this on the base of the Hatcher so that the tiny pea fowls’ legs don’t end up being splayed. I literally just left them for 2 hours and next check in, there were 3 baby chicks out already!!! Including 2 very rare pieds!!! Warren and I are so excited every single egg from the very first egg laid is fertile....so amazed as it has been almost 2 years since we first brought our very first day old chicks home all the way from Katanning...

09.01.2022 Focus on the Rhode Island Red! The Rhode Island Red is an American breed of domestic chicken. It was developed in the late nineteenth century in Massachusetts and Rhode Island by cross-breeding birds of Oriental origin such as the Malay with brown Leghorn birds from Italy. It was a dual-purpose breed, raised both for meat and for eggs; modern strains have been bred for their egg-laying abilities. It has a beautiful deep mahogany coloured plumage sometimes with a slight bottl...e green tinting. The Rhode Island is a heavy breed, dual purpose bird that is a solid layer, producing 280 - 300 eggs per year. She has a friendly and social disposition, and her eggs are brown in colour. We currently have here, day olds through to 5 weeks old and semi off heat. We are open this long weekend, Saturday, Sunday & Monday, 10.30am to 3pm, to arrange an appointment to visit, please text Astrid 0418 898 629. See more
