12.01.2022 It sounds fancy when you say it but when you actually find out what it is, it's kinda weird... WHAT IS MINK MADE FROM? Well it comes from a furry little animal shown in the bottom left. WHAT IS SILK MADE FROM? From a special kind of worm...called a Silkworm shown in the bottom right.... There are authentic Mink & Silk eyelash extensions available, but a lot of technicians find them hard to work with because of the difference in thickness and they lose their curl very rapidly & they are usually rather expensive. Also there is quite a lot of debate on exactly how these little animals are farmed and some say not too humanely. Because of this, we decide NOT to stock or supply authentic Mink or Silk lashes. We dont supply Faux mink either simply due to consumers not knowing all the above and see the word mink & automatically assume they are real mink. The alternative to authentic mink is actually faux silk or faux mink (faux means "fake" in French), which are purchased in trays and are PBT (which is a very high quality form of plastic...more explained in our Blog #27) and will have no silk or mink in them. So there you go! 03.01.2022 Firstly, how competent do you feel personally on your handmade volume fans? Consistency in fans, width and dimensions (same amount of lashes in the fan)? How is your timing? These all play a factor in when deciding which to use. Me personally, I love the overall feeling and satisfaction of my handmade sets. In saying that, I too use pre mades. The convenience of picking up an already perfect fan and placing them onto the lashes is equally as satisfying. Do you want to use ...short stem (the fan start at the base) or long stem (the fan starts at the top of the stem)? Each style also has a different dipping/swiping glue technique. Sometimes pre mades fall apart when not picked up correctly, hand made fans sometimes close when you place them onto the natural lash. Each technique has its pros and cons. Personally I choose handmade fans, for I get my best results and retention as a handmade fan wraps around a natural lash instead of on top. But the main point is: DO WHAT BEST WORKS FOR YOU AS A TECH. There are many controversial things surrounding pre mades as opposed to hand made. But as technicians we have evolved and grown and are working smarter not harder and still giving the same results.
