25.01.2022 Hi Everyone, just confirming that there will be interuptions to 3G and 4G services in Narrabri until about the 19th of December. Loders Computers were notified by the banks because we have had quite a few EFTPOS machines go down in our area and we are the installers for Narrabri. So please be patient with store owners, they are just as upset about this as the general public. Christmas shopping is not going to be easy this year!

25.01.2022 There is yet another ransomware threat going around. This new one disables most known methods of protecting against these "Cryptolocker" programs, and even works offline. Remember to be very careful opening attachments in emails, especially if its a generic email (with no real names) about a package or a fine.

22.01.2022 Thanks to all those Emergency Services Workers who have been fighting these fires for the longest time. Thanks for keeping us safe and for sacrificing your family time for your communities. Merry Christmas to you all!

21.01.2022 If youre in Narrabri and your ADSL is dead, its not just you. Hopefully itll be back on around (or before) the current ETA of 10am tomorrow, but weve seen those ETAs move before. No idea on the cause at this stage, but the rain seems to be a common factor in internet outages over the last 12 months.

21.01.2022 ADSL is down in town for, well, pretty much everyone. Telstras not giving any clues as to whats happened or where they are up to, which makes it hard to tell whether we should all be setting up 3G alternatives or just waiting it out.

20.01.2022 HP NOTEBOOK BATTERY RECALL... Hi Everyone, HP has issued a recall on specific notebook batteries. Not all laptops are affected and of the models listed in the recall notice less than 3% are affected.... Batteries that are affected have a potential to overheat and pose a fire and burning hazard. This is a list of affected products: HP Probook 640 G2 HP Probook 645 G2 HP Probook 650 G2 HP Probook 655 G2 HP Probook 640 G3 HP Probook 645 G3 HP Probook 650 G3 HP Probook 655 G3 HP ZBook 17 G3 HP ZBook 17 G4 HP ZBook Studio G3 HP x360 310 G2 HP Pavilion x360 HP ENVY m6 HP 11 Notebook PC If you own one of the machines listed above and the serial number is between xxx550xxxx and xxx750xxxx please return it to your place of purchase for a _FREE_ replacement battery. You can also contact HP directly on phone 13 10 47 on weekdays between 8.30am and 5.30pm AEDT. It is important that you cease using the battery if it is affected by the recall. You can still use your notebook, just pull the battery out of it and connect your notebook directly to power. You can then use your notebook normally, except it wont be portable. This will not damage your notebook to use it like this until the battery is replaced. Please take the time to check your notebook and if it has been affected by the recall cease using the battery immediately. If you need any help, you know where we are!

20.01.2022 Attention Windows XP users! You have 3 weeks left until the last ever security updates for Windows XP are released. After April 8, XP will become less secure as time passes and security flaws are found. Generally the best solution is a new computer, but as always we recommend coming in to discuss your specific situation - everyone is different, and so are their computers.

19.01.2022 Updates are actually important... Dont do this.

19.01.2022 Anyone else think kids know more about computers than they do? Some of the best people to learn from when it comes to mastering a computer are your kids or grandkids. They arent afraid to press a button, they know that as long as they dont break any hardware, you can always undo your mistake. Having said that - BACKING UP IS STILL A GOOD IDEA!

18.01.2022 We just received word that currently there is a National Telstra Outage. I still have reception but I am down to 2 bars, so hopefully most of us can use our phones and internet! As soon as we get any updates Ill pass them on!

17.01.2022 The last week or so has been pretty hectic in here, mainly due to a new strain of RANSOMWARE that has been making the rounds. We cant stress enough how important it is to be wary of the emails you open. If you dont know who they are from please dont open them. If you get an email from an organisation that normally doesnt contact you by email, please dont open it. If you hover your mouse over the senders name you will see who the email really is from. If it is from a diff...erent address to the one noted as the sender then it is likely to be a scam! If you are attacked by ransomware, turn your computer off straightaway and contact your IT team immediately. The longer you leave your computer on more files will be encrypted. Ransomware is a new way for the lazy people to make money. They encrypt your data and hold it to ransom. Please use common sense when opening your emails.

16.01.2022 Our staff have been so busy, they have been neglecting the normal office duties. Heres Tim catching up on his "Stapler Polishing!"

16.01.2022 ALTERNATIVE ENTRY OPTIONS DURING MAITLAND STREET UPGRADE. Hi Everyone, During the upgrade of Maitland Street entry via Tibbereena Street will be available to customers who wish to drop off items for repair, especially if those items that are too heavy to carry longer distances. The entry will be marked with signage. ... Please be mindful that this is the staff parking for our business as well as Merten & Co, so we ask that you limit your parking time to no more than 10 to 15 minutes. This arrangement is available only to customers of Loders Computers and will stay in place until the upgrades to the southern end of Maitland Street are complete. Dont hesitate to contact us on 6792 3218 if you have any queries. We appreciate your patience, James and Ann

15.01.2022 As it turns out, aside from the choice of name, Windows 10 isnt horrible. And it seems to run reasonably well on quite old hardware. If anyone wants to have a play without ruining their own computers, we have installed the preview of Win10 onto 2 older devices (one laptop, one tablet) in the shop for demo purposes - come in and take a look.

15.01.2022 Telstra appears to have had another ADSL outage in Narrabri. This is the 3rd time in about 7 months. Telstra has not provided an ETA for restoration, but hopefully it wont be as long as the last 2 times.

15.01.2022 Just letting you know that the national Telstra problem has been resolved. If you are still having problems, turn off your phone or internet and leave them off for a minute or so before turning them back on again. If you have any problems connecting after that you will need to call Telstra. Good Luck!

13.01.2022 This is for those computer nerds, who wish we were back in the 80s. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWYweAUikis

13.01.2022 CURRENT TELSTRA OUTAGE Hi Everyone, just wanted to give an update on the Telstra outage currently gripping Narrabri and surrounds. I managed to get onto Telstra and was advised that this is not expected to be rectified until 9th November 2019. This is affecting most 3G, 4G and NBN services.... Through my own personal observations alot of EFTPOS machines at retails stores as well as some Automatic Tellers in Narrabri are only working intermittently or not at all.

13.01.2022 Just wanted to remind everyone that you need to be careful when opening emails, the crypto locker virus is going around again! Think before you open an attachment: The Office of State Revenue, The Australian Federal Police and Australia Post will never contact you by email. Ask yourself, "did I ever give these organisations my email address?" If the answer is no, then dont open their emails! It could cost you alot more than just money!

12.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS! 12.01.2022 OK, we all know about the phone scam where they claim your computer has viruses, fiddle a little bit, and then demand your credit card, right? Well now theyre targetting phone and tablet users. Only this time, instead of calling people, theyre advertising their "support" services on various search engines. The victims now contact the scammers instead, but the basic idea is the same - they show you some normal stuff, claim its a big problem, then ask for cash. Our advice is to come and see us, of course. But if youd rather search for answers on the internet, just remember that not everything on the internet is true or reliable.

11.01.2022 "In the 60s, Marvin Minsky assigned a couple of undergrads to spend the summer programming a computer to use a camera to identify objects in a scene. He figured theyd have the problem solved by the end of the summer. Half a century later, were still working on it." http://xkcd.com/1425/

08.01.2022 Heres one for the kids!

08.01.2022 Heres a bit more information for those that are interested.

05.01.2022 It is now more important than ever to KEEP YOUR SOFTWARE UPDATED. There is a new "ransomware" file encryption virus in the wild, this time spreading via malicious ads on genuine sites and installing via holes in out-of-date web browsers. Along with keeping things up to date, we recommend backing up regularly. Once hit with an encryption ransomware, you generally cant recover anything without a good backup!

05.01.2022 We would just like to let you know that our address book was copied and stolen from our Yahoo Email Account and is now being used to send spam. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to stop this and apologise for any inconvenience. Please be aware that these emails contain links and attachments which should not be opened or clicked on. Here are a few ways to tell if emails you receive claiming to be from Loders Computers are genuine.... 1. Firstly check your address book and ensure that our address is [email protected] If you have an address that contains #&39 or something similar (including in our name), please delete it and add [email protected] as our correct details. 2. If you receive an email from us you can hover over our name whilst the email is in the inbox and only emails from [email protected] will be genuine. If the address is loderscomputers@(anything else) then you have not received that email from us and our advice is to not open it, but delete it immediately. 3. If you are still concerned please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help you out. Please also be aware that we are not the only ones this has occurred to. Quite a few people with email accounts at yahoo have had this happen to them. Step 2 above is a method you can use for all Yahoo account holders. If they do not have the correct yahoo extension in the address then they are not from the actual account holder and are spam. Please remember to be vigilant when opening any email and use caution when you receive emails from addresses you are not familar with.

03.01.2022 Thank you to the Narrabri Police for their quick response last night to a theft from a staff car in our carpark.

03.01.2022 SCAMMERS ARE BACK AGAIN!! Hi Everyone, I just wanted to remind people to be wary of letting phone callers have access to your computer via a remote connection. Currently there is a scam caller, who claims to be from Telstra, ringing some of our clients and telling them that Telstra has detected suspicious activity on their computer. They get you to install a program that gives them remote access and proceed to show you a report that lists suspicious activity. This report gene...rated by your computer and is called an events log. Every time your computer performs a task it makes a record of it in this events log. It is NOT a list of virus activity. After that they look through your browser, they then go to your internet banking site and ask you to log in. If you do it, you are giving them access to your account. However, if you dont do it they threaten you and lock your computer with a password, rendering it useless unless you happen to guess it. The best thing to do is not let anyone remotely access your computer, if you do and then realise you are being scammed pull the power cord out of your modem, without tipping them off. If you do this they cant activate the software they have already installed to lock you out of your computer. Please be wary and protect your computer and yourself. If you are unsure, you can always call or drop in and see me.

03.01.2022 ATTENTION: One, CE Internet & One Seniors Customers We just found out that the ISP "One" (which is also My One, CE Internet, One Seniors etc.) has gone into administration. Their wholesale supplier has cut access to customer connections. I know that if you have been affected by this you wont be able to access the internet, but we thought if we posted it here the word would get around. We recommend you wait until you hear from the Administrators to find out what your contractual obligations are before making decisions regarding new internet service providers. If we can help in any way, please give us a call or drop in and see us.
