21.01.2022 7 barrows just need 1 more

21.01.2022 I just realised some of you may not realise the significance of last nights frog photos :) This is Litoria brevipalmata - the green thighed frog. It is what is ...known as an explosive breeder - it will ONLY breed when there has been a torrential downpour in excess of at least 100 mm in this particular Gold Coast area - in some other areas it may only need 50mm. After/during the downpour they come from everywhere to their breeding pond - an ephemeral pond that doesn't hold water for all that long. They all turn up and it results in a massive breeding event, lasting only 1-2 nights - an ear-splitting orgy of sound !! Then they all disappear again, and only the tadpoles are left to go through their development, and then they too 'disappear' until the next torrential rain event. So it is a true treat to actually see them at all, let alone be privy to their breeding and socialising :) Superb See more

18.01.2022 DAWN CRICHLOW SAYS GOODBYE TO POLITICS After almost three decades in politics, Southport Councillor Dawn Crichlow has announced that she will not recontest Divi...sion 6 at next year's local government elections. "I'm not going anywhere, I'm still going to live in Southport. I'm going to be more of a volunteer for the groups of Southport. So, I'm out of politics, and into the community." Cr Crichlow has been on council since 1991, and says that helping people is the thing that she loves the most about being a local councillor. " I love just helping anybody. Somebody that can't afford their dog registration. I can help them out for a couple of months. You want to see my top drawer. People come and borrow money before they get paid on the Thursday, and then they pay it back five dollars at a time." She says that the last year has been her toughest in politics. "Because I am against so much that is going on at the moment, and I'm afraid that I'm one of those small people that don't have the vote anymore . Increasing bureaucracy, and a lack of community consultation have been frustrating for the veteran councillor. "We've got too big, and there's too much control at the top." Cr Crichlow didn't name any names when asked who she would like to see replace her. "Definitely not any members of any political parties. I'm very disappointed at the way politics has come into local government. I would like to see a strong person. Some strong person that thinks community." How would she like her constituents to remember her? "Just say hello to me in the street, that's all. I talk to everybody in the street." https://www.abc.net.au//veteran-gold-coast-counci/11441286

16.01.2022 A memorial service for Douglas William White (Doug) will be held at the Loders Creek Community Gardens at 1pm on Sunday the 30th of June. The Gardens are locate...d off the corner of Ewan Street and Terrigal Crescent, or may be accessed via Beale Street, Southport. The service will commence at 1pm and will be followed by light refreshments. Street parking is available. For those who are unable to walk the approximate 150 metres, we will be able to let you drive into the park to be dropped off or park in the grounds. Please come dressed comfortably and casually the service will be held in the park, so we will be outdoors (high heeled shoes do not do well on grass). If you want to wear your best polo shirt, I’m sure Doug would appreciate it even shorts would not be out of place ! Please no flowers. Just come along with your stories and memories this is a time of celebration in honour of a man who has done much for the environment, and taught many to love the many aspects of nature that surrounds us, as well as being a loving husband, father and brother.

15.01.2022 I'm coming to you this week with a scoop! I was approached by this young couple and their young startup. I wasn't expecting much...but the demo they showed me b...lew my mind. We became friends and now I'm excited to share with you what they are working on. It's in the early stages - but judging from the potential of this invention, the least I can do is support them with a video! For more infomation, you can find them at Solutum [dot] co Also uploading videos on Instagram: @NasDaily. Group: Nas Daily Global

12.01.2022 How lucky are we to have these gorgeous gliders living happily in the middle of Southport on one of our Loders sites. Narelle and Damian are doing a fauna survey for the Loders Creek Catchment group which is to celebrate 25 years of restoration on Loders Creek. The survey will create a history plus show us from past survey that was done many years ago what we now have. 150,000 trees for the wildlife, a healthy creek and lovely walkways for the community and a community garden. This work been done by community service offenders, work for the dole and volunteers. A huge thank you to Damian and Narelle (ddwfauna) from a very proud Mum.

09.01.2022 Some photos showing the squirrel glider feeding - you can clearly see the bite marks in the tree, and in the last shot the glider is actually licking the bite site.

08.01.2022 A Aged care facility asked me if I could assist them as they have a number of eager gardeners. They were going to purchase a raised bed for a garden but I suggested we use wheel barrows. These are a good height and we can place about 8 around there garden. So please if you have an old wheel barrow that you no longer use please get in touch. It doesn’t matter if it has hole in base or no tyres as long as we have bucket and base. My one in this photo will show what I want to do with them. Some will have Vegetables others herbs and some just flowers.

08.01.2022 Finally a clear night - so we were off to work :) And what an amazing night it was - 5 possibly 6 squirrel gliders going about their business in the tree tops <...3 A couple of individuals couldn't have cared less that we were there, and allowed us to watch them chewing into the bark of wattle trees and feed on the sap. Two of them either had a fight, or were getting amorous with tufts of fur sticking out where it had been 'removed'. Perfection - just what we needed. A night in the bush, immersing ourselves in nature and forgetting about the shit going on in the world <3 See more

08.01.2022 hmmm.... wasn't planning on taking video so didn't have lights etc, but the best we could do with what we had. A male Litoria brevipalmata calling his little he...art out last night !! Sorry for the quality and the lighting, but hey, it's our first go (and sitting in a flooded area covered in mossies and spiders while trying not to dunk the camera in the water wasn't that easy LOLOL). And sorry Damian for making you keep moving the head torch :) See more
