25.01.2022 The Workbook for the Yoga Sutras course.

24.01.2022 Approach to Therapy Bringing Meaning and Connection to Life The most important factor in any type of therapy is the development of a safe, confidential and open relationship between the therapist and their client. Through the establishment of this therapeutic relationship a space is created where together the tasks at hand can be explored bringing understanding and change to not only day to day life at home, work and play, but also to ones inner sense of self. What suits the... needs and style of each person shapes each therapeutic encounter. It could be a thoughtful conversation to identify and exchange insights and understandings that bring about change or, an exploration of a dream, sandplay therapy or a body awareness approach. What happens in a therapy session draws on various therapeutic approaches but most importantly is guided by the unique experience of each person rather than any specific modality. See more

17.01.2022 The International FASSTT Conference on Refugee Trauma convened by The Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma was a huge success. Feedback rated the workshops and keynote speakers highly. My workshop on The Place of Yoga in Trauma Recovery was well attended. We explored yogic ideas, how trauma is held in the body causing ongoing somatic and emotional pain and how it can be released in safe supported ways. We talked, contemplated and explored the teachings on the yoga mats!

16.01.2022 Yoga Updates! The Yoga Course based on the 8 Limbs of the Yoga Sutras is well underway with a full house. Each month we look at one limb of yoga thoroughly. For more information contact me through my website. This course is likely to be run again in 2020. 27th March 2019. I am presenting a 1/2 day workshop for counsellors and yoga teachers on "The Place of Yoga in Trauma Recovery" at the FASSTT International Conference in Brisbane. There are still places left. Register at www.FASSTT.org.au.

16.01.2022 Last week I attended FASSTTs International Conference on Refugee Trauma where I presented, in my role as a QPASTT counsellor and clinical supervisor, a half day workshop entitled, "The Internalisation of Trauma: How Trauma Manifests and is Worked Through Symbolically in the Psyche". A big title and a big topic. In my view an essential topic when supporting those healing from complex trauma. Whether such trauma is caused by war, domestic or family violence, traumatic or multiple and unable to be grieved losses, or, a childhood and early adulthood where there was less than enough emotional security, a persons inner life may continue to experience emotional pain long after the event(s). It is these situations that my workshop addressed.

13.01.2022 On Saturday 21 Oct, I attended the opening of the new venue for Bo Tree Therapies. I presented on the interface between psychotherapy and yoga to approx. 20 people and facilitated a guided deep relaxation. For more about how yoga and psychotherapy interface visit my website. For great yoga visit the Bo Tree Therapies website.

13.01.2022 The 2019 Yoga Course on the Eight Limbs of Yoga concluded with a full day retreat in the quiet of Mercy Place amongst the trees and birds on the slopes of Mt Cootha. Here are some of the comments made in the evaluations: "I can bring more ease into yoga poses; I feel more able to work with breath (pranayama), I judge myself less now; I learnt the value of withdrawing the senses (Pratyahara); I learnt practical skills for meditation; I leant the importance of intention and min...dfulness in asana practice and life; I learnt how the breath can help with anxiety; I will bring the yamas and niyamas into my practice and daily life (the value base of yoga, the external and internal observances); I learnt to move more slowly with greater emphasis and understanding of why a yoga pose is as it is; I learnt how to better quiet my mind and concentrate." "Now I think about yoga less as a physical practice after this course, the material is so useful to life in general not just in a yoga class." "The course material is a great resource to bring to my (yoga) teaching and to (share) with other yoga enthusiasts." "Thank you for your kind and compassionate teaching." See more
