25.01.2022 Lojic Institute is dedicated to protecting the health and rights of its staff and clients. In light of the recent statements from the Australian Federal Governm...ent, State Governments and World Health Organisation regarding COVID-19 and the need for social distancing we will be changing the way services are delivered to our clients for the foreseeable future. It is important for you to know that we are dedicated to supporting each and every client through this tough time to the best of our ability while working under the government guidelines for infection control. This is a time of great change for everyone, routines are being severely disrupted and we are all going through a period of extreme uncertainty. As you are all aware, these are exactly the circumstances that exacerbate the behavioural issues for the people we support as they attempt to exert some control over their world. One thing you can be certain of right now is that we are still here for you. We have tools that we can provide to support our clients and their networks to help them manage behaviours of concern throughout this time. The look of our service is going to change but the dedication of our staff, and their ability to help you at this time, will not. To ensure that we are doing our best to follow the policies on social distancing we will not provide in-person services. We have the technology available to continue providing high quality, physically distant face-to-face services to you. This includes video conferencing services that meet all privacy and confidentiality laws and capacity to engage over the phone. Our staff will continue working on behaviour support plans and will conduct assessments, training, and consultation support via video or telephone. Please note that under rare circumstances, the Chief Executive Officer has the ability to make the decision to approve some in-person service delivery. If you feel an in-person appointment is absolutely necessary please discuss this with your behaviour specialist. We would also like to assure everyone that the funding for our services (either through the NDIS or other sources) continues as per usual. There is no need to be concerned that funding for behaviour support will be ceased or decreased as we traverse these difficult times. In fact, messaging from commonwealth and state ministers is that governments are seeking to ensure the flow of money through the community by simplifying the processes for accessing services such as Lojic Institute. We appreciate that these are trying times and that you may, in fact, require additional support and consultation from our team to help you manage the challenges ahead. Please do not hesitate to contact your behaviour specialist to get the support you need. We are all going through this challenging time together, we stand in this together, and we will do our best for you. Our team has access to resources that may be of use to you right now for establishing new routines and consistency throughout this period. The behaviour specialist that works with you will have a discussion to ensure that the plan for support is clear over this next period of time. Lojic Institute is constantly working to find ways that we can utilise additional technology to provide our clients with the best possible care and support and we will continue to update you as we find more ways to support you. Please take care and stay well.

09.01.2022 To better explain Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the gold standard of therapy recommended for individuals with autism, I will share an analogy using Church an...d God. There are many kinds of different churches, all claiming to support the same God. Some churches are similar to one another, with only slight variations. Some are completely different. Some churches say things on behalf of God that you don't agree with at all. A church can be bad, or simply just not right for you, but that doesn't make God bad. It might just mean you need to go to a different church. ABA is like God, and ABA providers are like churches. You can have bad providers. Ones that are not in line with your beliefs. Ones that don't execute material with fidelity. Ones that don't properly train their tutors. That does not make ABA bad. ABA is a proven science, and it works. However, this can mean your provider was bad, or their methods and philosophy were a bad fit for you. Not all ABA providers are the same. ABA therapy is used to increase language and communication skills. It is also used to improve attention, focus, social skills, safety skills, memory, and academics. ABA is based on the science of learning and behavior. This science includes general laws about how behavior works and how learning takes place. ABA therapy applies these laws in a way that helps to increase useful or desired behaviors. (Learning is a behavior- almost everything we do is a behavior!). We don't use ABA to change my boys into robots, like some people claim happens with all ABA. It does not alter who they are. We do not torture them or cause them irreparable harm. It helps them learn colors, and numbers and how to write their name and teaches life skills other children learn easily- like NOT to run into traffic, how to brush your teeth and get dressed, and a thousand other things. ABA has changed our life. I can't imagine what my boys lives would be like without it. While it might not be successful in 100% of children, it is a remarkable intervention, and it works for most. We are so grateful for it. #aba #autism
