22.01.2022 THIS WEDDING. There aren't many moments as special as your only sister's wedding We made the bouquets and the boutonnieres for Jess and Sam. And then I popped along to the wedding with Jess as Maid of Honour.... You will see my cheeky sis in the pics. They are mermaid and merman, and are mostly found on the beach of a weekend. We chose local Australian natives, waxflower and silver dollar. Not sure how I got so lucky in life with these two in tow.... Jess and Sam, as Emerson once said, 'May you always live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, and drink the wild air..' We love you! Snaps by the talented @jackhenryphoto @ Bilgola Beach

20.01.2022 TIME OUT WITH THE SLOW JOURNAL... I chatted to the incredible team @slow_journal right after attending the global climate strike a couple of weeks back. We talked about lots of things that matter in life, local flowers, foraging, what banksias can tell us about the changing climate, and most importantly, the importance of slowing down. ... When we slow down it always enhances our lives. We become aware of everything around us, and how it changes. Take a read if you get some slow time this weekend. You can download via link in bio, or purchase in-store at participating stockists including @sustainablewardrobesydney So great to chat with you @aamygibbs @slow_journal @ Sydney, Australia www.theslowjournal.com

17.01.2022 WHY NOT BRING YOUR GARDEN TO THE PARTY... Yesterday we helped celebrated a very special milestone in life with all of the things this man loved. Family. Friends. And their garden. It was a surprise garden appearance, he didn't know it was invited.. most of the family was in on the secret ... So we showed up and quickly installed this magnificent purple paulownia in moss gathered from their garden path. Our palette included the more exotic characters of the garden. Snowballs featured on entry, and branches from one of the beloved maple trees. The most overwhelming difference working with garden flowers was the SCENT. This is why we do what we do. We believe in local flowers. Flowers simply don't evoke the same feeling after being imported from afar. This was a truly special event, we were so grateful to be a part of it. @ Pilu at Freshwater

16.01.2022 NATURE ESCAPE This photo was taken in the incredible @tasmaniaparks on Flinders Island, Tasmania. Our group were on a bushwalk on our Flinders Island Wild Weekend just before the world closed down in March. So lucky to squeeze it in with some seriously awesome folk. We felt like family by the end of the weekend! If there is anything 2020 has reminded us of to be grateful for, it was often our closest nature fix. National parks around Australia saw many flocking to their lo...cal paradise. The pedestrian strip, or local park would do too. What may once took for granted was thrown back into the daily or weekly routine of life. I wrote about my own experience rediscovering my childhood backyard for the next edition of the @slow_journal in Orange, NSW. I will be sharing it with some special folk 27-29 November joined by makers, creators, producers and a passionate local conservationist ensuring our wild spaces remain that way. Col actually has a local native orchid named after him, but that's another story for another time! We have a couple of spots left https://www.lokaleblumen.com/the-orange-wild-weekend Have a great weekend. LB x Snap @natalie_mendham

14.01.2022 SWITCHING TO SEASONAL + LOCAL FLORALS AT THE ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS A little while ago I wrote a post about how we convinced a client to come along with our greener floral ideas for an awards event in Sydney. We went on a limb here... since the event began the entrepreneurs in the running for an award have received yellow rose buttonholes on the night, a long-standing tradition all over the world, honouring business greats including latest Australian winner, Jo H...organ of Mecca. However, yellow roses typically don’t grow naturally during winter, and would carry nasty air miles. so we suggested this year they consider locally grown Inca Gold leucadendrons by local wildflower farmer @craigioscott. They swiftly agreed! The final buttonhole design is pictured here The design reveals the beauty of the mostly unseen part of the flower. Hailing from the Proteaceae family, the leucadendrons are at their peak at the end of winter, after the solstice has passed In addition to the buttonhole design, we combined local dry sculptural elements and foliage with fresh yellow buddelia for the remainder of the event florals. We will share those tomorrow... 14.01.2022 CULTIVATE - A SUSTAINABLE FLORAL CONCEPT FOR 200 GEORGE ST, SYDNEY We were engaged by @eyaustralia and the @ey.experience community for a very special dinner last week. The purpose of the event was to highlight the incredible initiatives happening in this building, bang smack in the middle of the city 200 George is one of Australia's most environmentally advanced and sustainable buildings. Anyone visiting the building should have a chance to be immersed in these values.... By bringing green initiatives into the building, including waste free kitchens, farms in the basement and microgreens for all of the floors there is a very real chance this same care for the environment will cultivate beyond its four walls, increasing the entire community’s wellbeing and connection to place. Our Cultivate 'plant menu' aimed to demonstrate the tactile and ethereal qualities that will return to this community by growing this respect for nature in the building’s very pockets, and in turn, into people’s daily lives and homes. Guests dined where florals and edible plants deliberately peeked up and out from EY kitchen's crockery and dishes. Luckily Chef trusted us with them @robertgordonpottery. Each plant was chosen as it could either be replanted downstairs in the building basement veg patch, taken to the kitchen for reuse, or planted in the garden in the future being considered for the building. We chose flowers that go well on rooftops (like flannel flower - thanks for the tip!! @yerrabingin ) Edible @farmwall microgreens grown right downstairs guests added to their dishes during the evening with their own snips Straight after the event we left herbs from @randwickcouncil community downstairs so @farm_wall @cultivatefarms could plant them in their city farms And that's a wrap. 200 George St, we love what you are up to. Keep up this important work. Special thanks to BIlpin Blossom Farm, @craigioscott for the natives, @randwickcouncil for the herbs, Serena and Jono from @farm_wall for the microgreens, unending support from Lexi + Adam, and last but not least, visionary Danielle from ODM Group. You're all legends. Thank you!

12.01.2022 Yes! We agree! Always 'Make space for Adventure'.... Thank you for sharing our Flinders Island Wild Weekend adventures Make Do Co!!!

09.01.2022 LAND AND SEA.... Our wild weekends on Flinders Island, Tasmania in March next year were already jam-packed pretty full of goodness we thought.... There will be gin tasting at the brand spanking new @furneauxdistillery + incredible 2-3 course meals with vino when we aren't wandering the island prepared by chefs at @theflinderswharf + the most incredible accommodation on Killecrankie Beach (including the famous cray shack )... And if that wasnt enough now we get to stay @quoin_farm too. Being from the country myself this just delights me to no end. The special bit about this farm though is that it really is in the most wild location. There are plentiful critters. Sea on your door (hello Killecrankie beach and those granite rocks. And the most legendary hosts Jo and Tom and fam (swipe right to meet them!) It is where land and sea meet. On the edge of things. You will have to come discover it for yourself though. Link here for more info and how to sign up. www.lokaleblumen.com/the-flinders-island-wild-weekend We can't wait. Happy Sunday folks. @ Flinders Island

08.01.2022 ALL T H E E L E M E N T S THE EY ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS - - This was an event where we ditched out of season flowers carrying nasty air miles (see earlier post) and took the client along with some greener ideas... For the broader event florals we aimed to reflect the change of seasons by combining wintery sculptural elements, including bare foliage, with soon to pop buddelia... The buddelia was our secret weapon here, bringing the scent of new spring as it peeked through end of winter branches, sorghum and foliage.. we even managed to have the Aussie gumnut feature, only fitting in one of our national icons @artgalleryofnsw Of course, in the moment we didn't get proper snaps so here is a peek of the look, and behind the scenes Thanks to @rizerevents for bringing us on board, and @ey_australia for surfacing incredible Australian businesses through this program so many inspiring ideas and talented people in this city, it was so great to be a part of it. @ Art Gallery of New South Wales

06.01.2022 A FEW MORE SNAPS FROM CULTIVATE....A SUSTAINABLE FLORAL CONCEPT FOR 200 GEORGE ST, SYDNEY Continued on from last post.... guests dined where florals and edible plants deliberately peeked up and out from @ey.experience kitchen crockery and dishes at the 200 George St community dinner last week. Luckily Chef trusted us with them @robertgordonpottery Each plant was chosen as it could either be replanted downstairs in the @mirvac_office_industrial building veg patch, taken... to the kitchen for reuse, or planted in the future rooftop garden being considered for the @eyaustralia building. 01.01.2022 IF PLANTS COULD TALK. In the past few months our world has changed. The truth is, it has been the start to the year that was predicted by so many, and ignored. Our thoughts are with those who have lost so much in Australia's bushfires. The ongoing effect of this national disaster will be felt for many years to come. We still don’t know the toll on our plant populations. Life necessary life to all life. It is estimated that between 37.2 billion trees have been impacted to d...ate across 10 million hectares and counting, with as many understorey species (not including fungi, lichens and algae). We have lost 1/4 of our living collection at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah, and most of our conservation forest. The bushfires have presented a small window of time for local scientists to assess the impact of the fires on our ecological communities and to monitor how nature works to regenerate ecosystems. With an expectation that climate change will continue to facilitate fires in the future, it is important we not only understand the impact, but that we also preserve plants. Seed banking, when combined with other programs to recover species and ecosystems are our best hope to protect our plant diversity and our future. You can donate to this important work on the Sydney Botanic Gardens website. We have also adopted a seed at the Kew Gardens Millennium Seed Bank project, a global project close to our heart addressing this issue. On the home-front, as 2020 kicks off, our collaborations with local businesses and producing immersive experiences across Australia are more fired up with our purpose than ever. We started Lokale Blumen with the hope of giving plants a voice, and ultimately wake people up to more sustainable solutions. The more we connect with nature, the more we feel the urgency to care for it. The large organisations in Sydney we work with have begun 2020 stating their commitment to either a negative and/or zero-carbon footprint by end of 2020. We couldn’t be more stoked to see this kind of action taken by Australia’s business community in light of recent events. Our mission continues LB x
