They learn strategies to keep themselves safe from discrimination and speak up when they need to or when others cant. International Womens Day is a day to remind us of the importance of womens rights and initiatives to eliminate discrimination against women Our programs help raise awareness against biases ...and provide young women with the right tools to tackle issues within their own community. 01.01.2022 Our quest to get more girls and women interested in longboarding has taken a massive leap forwards in the past year. Being or lets say having been a male dominated sport in the past, longboarding has traditionally attracted more male riders. Curiously digging into evidence we found the following results of the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2012 Survey of Childrens Participation in Cultural and Leisure Activities: 60% of males involved were regularly participating in spor...ts like skateboarding, rollerblading and riding a scooter and only 47% of females engaged in such recreational activities between 2009 and 2012. This data however is based on 5 to 14 year olds. By the time girls turn 14 only 10% of them engage in enough physical activity to keep up with health recommendations, according to The Ambitions for Girls 2016 Strategy. Why is that, you are asking? Lets have a look into that. The Ambitions for Girls 2016 Strategy by Women in Sport, refers to confidence issues and a quote by a young woman stated in the report says: People think its weird and tease me when I tell them I play sport. What can we do as parents, family members, teachers and friends of young women to counteract this issue? Three words: Support each other Find an activity that you are passionate about, like longboarding, and encourage girls and women to join you. Provide a non-judgemental space for them to express themselves freely and simply have fun. Our courses encourage diversity and we welcome everyone to our events and workshops.
