23.01.2022 Is anyone else a tad annoyed (or disgusted) that public companies have been putting their hands out for subsidies from the taxpayers of Australia (by way of JobKeeper) and are now increasing their dividend payouts to shareholders? That is WRONG. https://www.theguardian.com//companies-using-millions-in-j

22.01.2022 Something else to think about.

22.01.2022 What sort of Australia do we want when this is all over? Do we want things to go back to how they were, back in January? Think about it. https://www.theguardian.com//the-spread-of-coronavirus-is-

21.01.2022 Temporary receptionist. Just for today. Special deals on snouts in inappropriate places.

21.01.2022 So, for anyone who is now working additional hours from home, have a think about how you are going to claim the tax deduction ...

21.01.2022 Scamming going to the next level. This is NOT how the ATO operates.

20.01.2022 We've heard all the doom and gloom about Australians accessing their superannuation early, due to Covid-19. Here's a different, less pessimistic slant on it. https://theconversation.com/early-access-to-super-doesnt-ju

20.01.2022 This is becoming a habit. 3 posts in one afternoon. This is to advise that the office will be closed on Friday 27 March for family reasons. Sorry for any inconvenience.

19.01.2022 Not only but also - watch out for those identity thieves who set up bogus job sites. Be extra careful, even though you may be desperate to find employment. If a site asks for your Tax File Number - get out of there. They are not legitimate.

19.01.2022 Heres an interesting read if you are worried about how much the government is spending. https://insidestory.org.au/before-anyone-asks-no-australia/

19.01.2022 Get the word out - scammers are more active than ever. Dont let them win. If in doubt, ring your accountant to check.

18.01.2022 Watch out for this new one

18.01.2022 Advice for anyone who needs to interact with Centrelink for the first time.

17.01.2022 Not often do my clients make a big splash, but here's one who has.

17.01.2022 Tax scams are getting more sophisticated. If you get a call that is supposedly from the ATO and you want to check it, call 1800 008 540. About 1.5 million has been scammed in the last year, dont get caught.

17.01.2022 There are many questions about the JobKeeper payments. At the moment, we dont have all the answers to those questions. We should know more next week, when we see the legislation. In the meantime, if you think you MIGHT be eligible, register your interest: https://www.ato.gov.au/general/gen/JobKeeper-payment/

16.01.2022 I dont just post warnings about scams. Heres a distinguished visitor from earlier today.

16.01.2022 For good or for bad, the ATO is increasing its focus on work related deductions. No-one is entitled to $300 deductions just because they have a job, despite the common misconceptions of all the bush and pub lawyers. If you want to know the facts, talk to a tax professional.

15.01.2022 This is the address for all the ATO information about Covid-19. https://www.ato.gov.au//In-d/Specific-disasters/COVID-19/ And this is the address for the Tasmanian government page: https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/... And I am more than happy to talk to you about what it means. I dont have all the answers, especially about JobKeeper, and there wont be answers to some questions until the actual legislation is available. But we can still talk about what we do know.

14.01.2022 Longford Business Centre is closed on Wednesday 5th August due to snowfall and icy roads at our home - its not safe for us to drive down the hill! Simon can be contacted on 0412 306667 if its urgent.

12.01.2022 A message from Meander Valley Council for all residents of that municipality, affected by the recent flooding. Dear Business Owner, ...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Well, this is unusual. I dont usually put much up on FB apart from scam warnings, but these are unusual times. Longford Business Centre is still open, we are still doing tax returns and Activity Statements, and sending info to banks and helping clients with MYOB and Xero and QuickBooks. But we are also practising self-isolation by having our screen door locked and limiting face-to-face interactions to an absolute minimum. We will only be allowing one person at a time to c...ome inside the office. We are doing as much as possible by phone and email. We have elderly parents (they might not like hearing that, but its true) and they are vulnerable (they might not like hearing that, either, but its also true) and we dont want their lives cut short. We have elderly clients. We have clients who have health challenges. We would like to do our bit to protect all of those people. So call or email - we are busy but we will respond. Bang on the door if you have to, but dont assume that you will be invited in - let us know youre coming if it has to be face-to-face. But really, does it? Stay safe, be kind to everyone, we can all get through it if were smart about it. Simon See more

11.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Watch out for this dodgy Tax Refund Notification email asking you to verify your billing information. Dont click anywhere in the email! Its... malicious and will take you to a fake Tax Refund form designed to steal your personal details. Forward the email to us at [email protected] Delete it and dont respond to the sender. Warn your family and friends to beware of this scam and always be cautious when opening attachments or clicking links in emails. Check out our scam alerts page for more info: ato.gov.au/ScamAlerts

10.01.2022 Just to let you all know: business resumes after the Christmas and New Year break at 10 am on 18 January. Feel free to email ([email protected]) or phone (6391 3007) and leave a message in the interim.

09.01.2022 Also, what experts think. https://theconversation.com/australias-130-billion-jobkeepe

08.01.2022 Just setting up a page to join our business onto the interweb thingy, and communicate with clients who are less technologically challenged than we are!

07.01.2022 Heres an interesting article about businesses needing to prepare now to survive later.

07.01.2022 News Flash: Simon will be taking an early Christmas this year, as he is booked to walk the Overland Track. Anyone who MIGHT need accounting work done before Christmas needs to get in touch straight away.

06.01.2022 The ATO has modified the rules for truck drivers who want to claim meal expenses. This change applies immediately. If you think you might be affected, please give me a call. Here is the link to the official wording. https://www.ato.gov.au/law/view/document

06.01.2022 So Federal Parliament is sitting today, and by the end of the day we will have some laws to explain how JobKeeper will work. Im registered for some explanatory webinars (so that I dont have to read the legislation) and then we can set about getting everyone as much as they are entitled to. Weve already lodged a lot more quarterly Business Activity Statements than usual (were only one week past the end of the quarter) and this is the point where look at the huge uptake of cloud accounting and payroll systems and realise just how much more efficient they are. Keep your distance and keep safe.

05.01.2022 So, in the midst of all of the uncertainty arising from Covid-19, there is more assistance out there for businesses, as the Tasmanian Government has announced a new grant. Applications close on 24 August, so dont delay if you need some help applying. Heres the link: https://www.business.tas.gov.au//covid-19_small_business_s

05.01.2022 Business Owners beware: all businesses in Tasmania are legally required to have a Covid safety plan in place by 15 June. It is very simple (even I can do it) and it can be found here: http://www.tcci.com.au//COVID-19-Business-Checklists-and-R. Not much in life is free, but this is.

05.01.2022 Another scam hitting our computers. Be careful.

04.01.2022 We have the technology, lets use it. So, first things first - watch out for scammers. They are everywhere, and they are targeting Tasmanians particularly at the moment. This link is the official ATO word on scams of all sorts>... https://www.ato.gov.au//report-fraud,-tax-evasion-or-a-ta/

03.01.2022 ANYONE WHO PAYS MONEY BY DIRECT TRANSFER - PLEASE READ THIS. What steps do you take to prevent being scammed?

02.01.2022 So the new tax year has started. And the ATO computer has been crashing again. And the scammers are still out there pretending to be the ATO. What does that all mean? Be cautious if anyone telephones you. And dont expect your tax refund straight away, theres a slight delay.

01.01.2022 Some of you may know that I am on the Board of May Shaw Health Centre Inc, and as a result I pay a lot of attention to Aged Care matters. In light of that, todays link for your thoughtful consideration is on that topic. https://thenewdaily.com.au//michael-pascoe-outsourcing-ag/
