15.01.2022 Winter is almost upon us. The likelihood of accidental house fires increases with people spending more time at home. Some tips to keep you and your family safe:... Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and hallway. Have a home fire escape plan that you practice with your whole family. Dust and test your smoke alarm once a month. Clean your clothes dryer filter after each use and always run it until the end of the cool down cycle. Keep everything two metres from the heater. Have your chimney and flue professionally cleaned annually. Never leave cooking unattended. Turn your electric blanket off when you get into bed. Use your wheat bag according to manufacturer’s instructions and never overheat in the microwave. Stay safe and visit www.fire.tas.gov.au for more information on how to stay fire safe.

15.01.2022 Tasmanians need to be prepared for challenging fire weather conditions towards the end of this week as hot temperatures, north-westerly winds and low humidity i...s expected to push the fire danger to severe in parts of the state. The forecast has triggered a total fire ban to be declared for Thursday and Friday for all municipalities in the south, and Northern Midlands and Break O’Day in the north. A total fire ban means it is illegal to light or to cause a fire to start in the open air. This includes (but is not limited to) incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban applies to the following municipalities from 2am Thursday 30 January until 2am Saturday 1 February: Brighton, Break O'Day, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Northern Midlands, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Radio.

11.01.2022 First up a warning. This ad shows very graphic images of a bushfire. It's not easy to watch especially with the memories and trauma of last season still so ...fresh for so many. But its message is so important. We live in one of the most bushfire-prone regions of the world. That means you need to have a bushfire plan. And now is the time to start working on it.

11.01.2022 Avoid a laundry fire, Clean your lint filter before or after each use. Ensure there is adequate air flow around your dryer. Don’t leave the dryer operating when you’re not home. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

11.01.2022 Ahhhhh spring time, such a beautiful time of year. Everything is growing and lush with beauty. And remember if your going to be burning we would love you to register your burn although we do like to visit people in our community we try not to "make a scene" doing it See more

10.01.2022 Thank you to all first responders

08.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Thursday 26 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to li...ght a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should: be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the north and south in line with the north west which had the permit period revoked a fortnight ago. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.
