23.01.2022 Something to look forward to in the not too distant future.

08.01.2022 Something that I have discovered about Longreach is that it is not as dry as I thought it would be. Now I don't know the science and don't get me wrong, it is dry, very dry and the farmers and others are doing it extremely tough. What I did not expect to see while we are here was rain. Since we arrived in August there has been smatterings of rain and some decent storms. From the little I have observed, the problem is that the rain is (yes this is obvious) wet, but it is no...t overly effective. We get a storm in town and, for instance, we got 40 mm the other week but all that happens is that the ground gets a little wet, perhaps boggy enough to muddy up your car if you have to use the road shoulder, and for Ghost (deaf rescue dog if you don't know us personally) to get disgusting muddy paws. But as far as I can tell from word around the place, it doesn't go much anywhere else. And yet, if you drive out toward Winton past the Thompson River, you see little streams of water because we are in channel county and if rains above us, we get the run off, and we can dry flood. There is rain, but not nearly enough, not regularly, not in the right paddocks and dams. I can't imagine the frustration, pain, the talks with "the bank", the living day to day, the hardness of life on the land that the landowners go through.

04.01.2022 We have been a bit quiet for the last couple of weeks with work and the heat. But one thing that I saw/did was certainly out of the ordinary for me. I decided I need compost worms and went to one of the local (recommended) rural supply stores. No big deal as far as asking for them and having them ordered. What was different than Brisbane and probably alot of other places was the matte black nasty looking gun just chilling on the counter. ... A futher look around showed gun safes, ammo, dog foods and worming/tick options. An all around "rural" store. Nothing wrong with this, just a little confronting for a "city" girl
