16.01.2022 Due to further NSW government recommendations and clarity on Wednesday’s decision on restricting community sport we have no choice but to cancel the Longyard Junior Open scheduled to be played tomorrow. With multiple cancellations of players already the event would have only had a few participants. Longyard Golf would like to apologise to all those that entered but due to the ever changing COVID-19 situation this is out of our hands.

16.01.2022 Volkswagen scramble canceled Unfortunately due to new NSW government COVID-19 restrictions we have had to cancel our Volkswagen scramble scheduled to be played on Sunday 6th of September. Those who had already registered and paid will receive a full refund in the coming days. We plan on rescheduling the event for November/December and will let you know when a date has been chosen. Longyard golf apologises for any inconvenience

12.01.2022 Hi Members and guests, There is a lot of confusion around the club at the moment with the works being undertaken to the 13th hole bunkers, with many members believing these bunkers will be left as Grass bunkers and thus destroying the layout of the hole, we would like to reassure everybody that this is NOT the case and would like to clarify the reasons behind these works. We understand that the bunkering here at Longyard Golf is unique and as such many holes are designed ...around the bunkers for both strategic and aesthetic purposes with the 13th hole especially designed around both of these elements. However majority of the back 9 layout is built on top of shale country and when the bunkers were constructed it was basically a matter of excavating the shape of the bunker, sticking a bit of drainage in and filling with sand. The problem with this is every time there is heavy rain the bunkers wash out and contaminate the bunker sand with rock and soil, when this happens it affects the ability of the bunker to drain properly, so when the bunker sand dries out it becomes crusty and in some cases sets like concrete, thus negatively affecting playability and the performance of the bunker. In addition to this over time, some of the bunker faces have become undermined and are directing water into the bunkers rather than away from them. What we are doing on the 13th hole is using the turf as a Liner to seperate the native soil and rock from the clean bunker sand. Once the turf has anchored it will be sprayed with a non selective herbicide and a suitable bunker sand will be placed back in the bunkers to their original depth and design. Drainage lines are inspected, cleaned and flushed and left open to maximise the flow of water. Due dilligence is taken to redirect surface water away from bunkers and reshape the bunker edge back to original design. While there are a number of options available for liners, a minimal budget does not allow for this. This work can be done In house at a rather minor cost with the turf being harvested from Longyard Golfs driving range tee. We apologise for any confusion and appreciate your patience throughout this process. Kind regards, Adam McMahon Course Superintendent
