25.01.2022 Getting ready for Spring with this bright and brilliant collection of Kaffe Fasset cottons just in. They are all a beautiful quality quilting weight but personally I’m dreaming of warm weather and bright Kaffe Fasset summer dresses! They are all 110cm wide, $34 per m.

22.01.2022 As some of you might have already heard we are ending our blind and curtain side of the business and just focusing on my big passion.. selling beautiful fabrics! We are therefore selling all our display blinds off for $100 each. We have already sold a few but have several gorgeous rollers, venetians and romans left. They are made using super smooth rolling Japanese mechanisms and are all 90cm wide and aprox 160cm long. There is just one of each sort but if you have a one off window that needs some attention come in and check out the range. They will be for sale for the next few weeks before we move our display out of the store so be quick if you are interested!

21.01.2022 Here is Liz who came into store wearing her new Laura pants made up in one of my linen/cotton blend stripes. She is a quick maker and whipped these up within the week of buying the fabric.. an enviable trait for the sewers that stash the fabric in a cupboard for a few years before getting round to looking at it! The fabric is $27 per m, 137 cm wide and is the perfect cool fabric for Summer makes like the Laura pants.

20.01.2022 Exciting news at Loom Fabrics.. we will be open an extra day for all your fabric perusing pleasure! Lovely Veronika who some of you might know will be running the shop on Mondays for the foreseeable future so come say hi to her. Opening hours are now 10 till 4.30 Monday till Friday and Saturday 10 till 4. Hope you are all having a good albeit wet weekend!

19.01.2022 Got these beautiful hand painted vintage buttons the other week and they are now sitting on the edge of my counter for me to admire all day. They were all made in Australia and range from $5- $15 per button. What truly unique treasures! One of the pictures is a little stash of charm that a customer took home with her the other day. What could be better than Liberty Tana Lawn, William Morris fabric and a few of these buttons to top of the pile!

18.01.2022 Got a few of these Liberty packs in. Each pack has piping and matching buttons, perfect for cute kiddo clothes and of course adult Liberty lovers as well!

18.01.2022 How great are these colours. Sorry to say but no I don’t sell them, they were all hand dyed using natural dye methods by one of my sewing class students. Sarah dyed all these using different types of barks and also avocado. The fabric started off as my ivory 100% merino wool jersey and now it is several one of a kind infinity scarfs. There will be some videos of how these barks were foraged and used coming on YouTube soon.. I’ll keep you posted on when that comes out. I meet so many people in the store from all walks of life and I love it when my customers inspire me with sewing and all things crafty.

17.01.2022 After admiring cute piped pj sets for years now I’ve finally got around to making some for myself. I didn’t do it for a long time because I normally like quick sewing projects and I knew the piping and buttonholes were going to test my patience. I finally got inspired enough to put in the hours after seeing this gorgeous vintage Liberty Tana Lawn that I bought in my recent Liberty buy for the store. I love this print and it was the perfect match with the pink premade satin pi...ping and covered buttons that I sell. The pattern I adapted from a old shirt pattern from the stash and I changed it by adding a front facing, cuffs, pockets and the piping detail. I redid the collar completely after finishing it off and realising I looked like I was from the 70’s. After unpicking it all, removing the stand section, resizing it and reattaching it looked more like I wanted it to.. more 30s than 70s thank you very much! Ps. If you like 30s fashion and vintage Liberty prints make sure you watch the new adaption of Rebecca on Netflix.. the clothes are gorgeous and there are some to die for pjs pieces to spy there! 16.01.2022 Loom Fabrics has been written about on the beautiful blog of Di Dixon of Belle Property. Check it out and also have a look at the other posts which include details on other local businesses and happenings in the Highlands.

14.01.2022 New Summer fabrics are in! Lots of new linens, cottons and drapey things made out of viscose/lyocell or tencel. Come check out what’s new.

14.01.2022 I’ve been giving this gorgeous Ralph Lauren Cashmere/wool blend a pat whenever I walk past it in the store for a while now and finally decided to chop some off for myself and make it into a new blanket for the couch. ‘Making it’ might be a bit of an overstatement as I left the two selvedge ends raw and for the two cut sides I simply frayed them. To do this just pull a weft thread along the length of the cut fabric to get your ends nice and straight and then carefully cut alon...g this line. Then pull out the weft yarns to however long you want the fringing to be and to stop further fraying finish off the edge with a few straight stitch lines or a zig zag stitch. This fabric is still available in store for $129 per m, 153cm wide and I can now testify to it being a delicate machine wash friendly, soft and luxurious, best blanket fabric I’ve ever had! See more

14.01.2022 3 new checks and a stripe.. all linen and yes, I finally got some black and white checks in for everyone that’s been waiting for it!

13.01.2022 A lot of people have been enquiring about me making face masks so I have done a short run which I am selling for $25 each. They are 100% cotton and machine washable so come and get one in store if you want one before they all go!

12.01.2022 Lots of new stuff to show you.. so much that I have already forgotten all the photos I just added and have to write about but let me give it a go... we have a few new Swiss cottons, more small pieces of Liberty, denim, corduroy, lots of wool/poly suiting colours, poly satins in lots of different colours including bridal colours and a few new heavy weight wool coatings too. A lot of these are at good discounted prices since I got a good deal when I bought them. We are open 10 till 4 Tuesday to Saturday if you want to come have a look!

12.01.2022 Here are some pics of my latest makes. A sweater and bias cut skirt made up in one of my cotton/elastane stretch fabrics which sort of reminds me of a Terry towelling on a mini scale. This fabric is a super wide 174cm which really made the bias cutting much easier. The sweater pattern is one from my vintage stash (I’m guessing it’s from the 80’s judging from the cover art!) and I pretty much sewed it as is, just added a bit more length and size for additional lounging comfort. I also added some elbow patches and the little sewn v at the front which you see on the sweaters in the shops. I probably will never wear these together again as the husband pointed out I looked a bit ‘culty’ in the matching set but I sure will wear them a lot by themselves! I still have a little roll of this fabric left in store at $58 per m.

12.01.2022 A few more beautiful linen prints that I just got in. My favourite is the hot pink one!

12.01.2022 Many new arrivals in store including Kaffe Fasset cottons, Liberty of London Tana Lawn, Irish linens, Digital Ramie Prints, Satins and more! - https://mailchi.mp//kaffe-fasset-liberty-of-london-irish-l

10.01.2022 New Liberty fabrics are in again. Lots of new and rare vintage Liberty Tana Lawns are now in store and you can’t miss them... they are all in the window display for your window gazing Liberty appreciation!

10.01.2022 Bit rumpled and windswept after a long walk but here is a photo of my new sew. I made one of my favourite linens up in a self drafted bias wrap dress. I have had a bit of a lull in sewing motivation for the last few months but Lyn, Loom’s sewing teacher bought me in some of the leftover selvedge scraps from her polka dot make and this inspired me to start sewing while using as much of the gorgeous selvedge of this fabric as possible! I still have a big roll of this fabric lef...t in store ($35 per m, 142cm wide) and a reversible fabric like this is always a great way to make you think outside the box and get creative with pattern drafting or adaption. Underneath the dress I am wearing a skivvy I made from a ribbed stretchy knit that I still have in store as well. Here is to skivvies for making it possible to still wear strappy dresses in winter! 10.01.2022 A new arrival of some New Zealand Merino wool jerseys and ponti fabric colours has just come into store but considering they don’t make a very interesting photo here is an additional pic of some adorable and very patient mini fabric shoppers sitting on the step while the mums do some remnant searching. The step in the middle of my little store has been a place of a few falls over the years and just a general hindrance but this cute photo makes me like the step much more!

08.01.2022 A week of #memademay Autumn dresses, skivvies, a skirt and a coat. I think the oldest make is about 9 years old and the newest is from early this year.

08.01.2022 Wearing my new linen combo while inspecting the new Spring growth in the garden. The top is an adjusted peplum-removed version of the Tessuti Hillary pattern and I made this one in a soft Japanese linen floral ($34 per m, 113cm wide). Love the neck elastic detail in the pattern and the full sleeves really appeal too. The shorts are a well loved (and yes quite crumpled) pair of Esther Shorts that I made a few years ago out of our Denim colour linen. Both the patterns are in stock atm and although Bowral might have gifted us with a top of 9 today I look forwards to seeing some more warmer weather, more shorts and more linen soon! #spring #linen #tessutipatterns #memade #sewin

07.01.2022 One of my sewing class regulars, Veronika made up this fabulous coat pattern out of the ‘Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style’ pattern book. It’s called the Pilvi coat and is a simple unlined pattern that looks great in all sorts of different fabrics. Veronika made hers in one of my charcoal coating wools that she then blanket stitched the edges of... doesn’t this finish it off beautifully! I have just got more copies of this great book in stock again and if I get my act together I want to make this coat up for me too before it gets too warm.

04.01.2022 Cute new prints have just come in. They are 80% cotton, 20% linen and are designed and printed in Japan. $33 per m, 110cm wide, they are a light canvas weight. Now it’s just the questions of Cats... or Dogs?

04.01.2022 More Liberty fabrics are in.. this was an unexpected last minute buy but of course I couldn’t resist. There are lots of remnants and also many larger meterages on rolls. Some classic and modern prints mixed in there and some rare ones from quite a few years back too. Be quick if you like a particular one because some of them won’t last long I’m sure!

03.01.2022 To celebrate the end of Winter all fabrics with wool in them are now 25% off. So if you've been eyeing any wools off now is the time to get them! The sale will be on for a couple of weeks.

02.01.2022 Some of the new beautiful linen and ramie prints that are in for Spring.

02.01.2022 Maybe I’ve been watching too many Jane Austen adaptions lately but I was getting really envious of those girls roaming around the moors in there long Winter dresses so decided to make myself one. When I first drafted it the skirt was full floor length and the neck was very high so trying on the dress mid-make felt a bit like I was going to a costume party. After a few chops here and there I eventually got it to a point where I was happy though. The check fabric is one of the beautiful Australian made wool blends I got in from a mill that sadly closed down last year. They are all approx 150cm wide and are at the great price of $30 per m which is normally wholesale price. There are some 100% wools, wool with 2% elastane and also some wool/poly combos too.
