08.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM OUT HONORARY PLAYING CAPTAIN, TRENT COPELAND Hi everyone, hope all of you have survived the COVID-world we’ve all lived in this past eight or so months. It certainly has changed the way we live - but hopefully in turn made us incredibly grateful for the things we do have, and to hone in on those. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support. As far as the summer is concerned, we are just finishing up the Sheffield Shield ‘bubble’ in Adelaide where we’ve had s...ome great results, including an unbelievable win against QLD. Next up for me it’s SEVEN coverage of the WBBL, Test matches against India - where I will be on the touchscreen again - and some BBL commentary. On top of all of that, Kim and I are expecting our first child at the end of this month! Exciting times. Stay safe, enjoy the summer, and go the Aussies (and Blues!). Trent Copeland --- Trent recently claimed 5/17 off 18 overs during New South Wales' thrilling one-wicket victory over Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. 06.01.2022 Wairoa School provides education to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, all of whom have an intellectual disability. Most students have additional needs such as physical disability, medical and health needs and autism. These all impact on our student daily and the school staff are dedicated to building learning, engagement and social interactions of our students. Physical activity, sport and fitness is embedded across the day at Wairoa School. The day starts with morning ...fitness which includes building skills for balance, movement and games. Sport and recreational activities are structured for our students so they can develop skills which can be taken beyond the school. Swimming, bike riding, walking and ball games can all be practices in the community with their family and community groups. We are delighted with the upgrade of a small play area which provides our students who are learning to walk and move, a safe area to explore and play with their friends. Previous donations from Taverners Sydney contributed to this wonderful upgrade. The development of social interactions is so important as our students as many travel from across the Eastern, Inner West and Southern suburbs to school and do not have friends local to them. The school plays a big role in their social and recreational development. Sports games and physical activities are an excellent way for our student to learn to share, take turns be part of a team, be friends as well as contributing to their overall wellbeing. We have students from local high schools visit Wairoa to contribute their time to school programs. It is usually through sports games and physical activities that provide the basis of these interactions. We have a focus on bike riding and safety at the moment which encourages our students to learn to ride, ride safely and to use a safety helmet. This is a wonderful skill which can be shared with family members and helps our young people to be part of the community taking their learning beyond the school. Wairoa School Principal, Carmel Seeto
