25.01.2022 Yesterday, Eugenie (Year 4), Scarlett (Year 5) and Zoe (Year 6), proudly and confidently represented Loreto College at the IPSHA Poetry Recital held here at the College. We congratulate all three girls on their outstanding achievements and their commitment to learn and present two different types of poems to a large audience. Well done to Eugenie who was awarded 2nd place in the Year 4 competition and Zoe who received a 3rd place in the Year 6 section. Thank you to the wonde...rful Year 6 helpers, Amelia, Zoe and Iris, who generously gave their time to help with timekeeping and ushering. Gratitude also goes to Portia K who was an exemplary MC on the day. Thank you to Annelies Roe and Fiona Basedow for preparing the girls and the many staff who made the day a memorable and enjoyable one. A special thanks to Anne-Marie Stringer who kept us COVID safe all afternoon! We felt so #proudtobeloreto
24.01.2022 A few happy snaps of todays groovy dress-ups for Mission Day - a favourite day on the Loreto College calendar. The talent quest was nothing short of amazing, and the homeroom challenge at the end of the day showcased team spirit and a whole lot of fun! Mission Day is our major fundraiser for projects undertaken by @mary_ward_international_aus (MWIA) and all monies raised today will go towards MWIA helping to provide access to quality education and develop sustainable education communities in Vietnam. All donations can be made via https://www.mwia.org.au/donate/tax-deductible-donations and selecting Loreto Vietnam. #proudtobeloreto
24.01.2022 YEAR 8 DESIGN THINKING CHALLENGE - Waste Management: this week, the Year 8 cohort are undertaken a design thinking challenge surrounding waste management. We popped into the Textiles Lab to see some of students working on group projects based on Fast Fashion. Fast Fashion is inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends...but is it worth it? Our Year 8s have been working collaboratively to identify problems within the fashio...n industry, and are devising possible solutions using a range of skills to produce prototypes. A few of the ideas include repurposing scrap materials, sustainable packaging and using natural dye instead of harsh chemicals. #proudtobeloreto #sustainability #designthinking
23.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 6 cohort for graduating from the Loreto College Junior School today. We celebrated this morning, along with parents and Junior School students with a liturgy, performances and certificate hand-outs. Our Year 6 Students have led the Junior School throughout a very chaotic year, and they should be proud of the strong, confident and passionate women they are becoming. #proudtobeloreto
22.01.2022 Our Year 11 cohort are off on their week-long journey to the Flinders Rangers! We look forward to updates of their learning experiences. #proudtobeloreto
22.01.2022 Our Year 7s held their Creation Liturgy in the Indigenous Gardens this week. What a beautiful way to come together in prayer #proudtobeloreto
21.01.2022 Our girls in the Senior School are in for a week of creative thinking, skill development and exam trials. We roamed the classrooms today where our Year 9s are well underway with their Futures Project - a project specifically designed for Year 9 students at Loreto. The aim is to develop students knowledge across a range of disciplines in order to prepare them with the types of skills they will require in their post-school lives. With empathy at the heart of this project, students have been working in teams to develop a prototype in order to solve a societal problem they have identified. Throughout the week, the girls will develop business and marketing plans in order to pitch their idea to a client. Pitches will occur this Thursday...so stay tuned! #proudtobeloreto #FuturesProject2020 #girlseducation

21.01.2022 Like a kid in a candy store, our science students across both our Junior and Senior campuses have been in awe at the new Scanning Electron Microscope we have stationed in our Physics Lab - just in time for Science Week! The microscope allows you to observe objects smaller than the human eye. By scanning a sample with an electron beam in a vacuum, it detects the signals produced from the sample and presents an enlarged image of the sample surface on a monitor screen. Can you... guess what these images are? The first image is the stinger of an inch ant, the second image is the bud of a native pine leaf and the third image is an up close shot of a Woolworths recyclable shopping bag! Our Year 12s had the chance to see different fibres up close today using the microscope. A very exciting experience for our girls! #proudtobeloreto
20.01.2022 Day 2 of STEMFooty with our Year 7s looking into current AFLW player profiles this morning looking at their height, ages and where they were recruited from. From this information, they practised some simple maths skills including calculating range, mean and percentage. #proudtobeloreto #STEMFooty #GirlsinSTEM #STEMories
20.01.2022 I can’t think of a better cause to support than our Loreto Preschool in Timor-Leste.
20.01.2022 Our Year 8 Textile Class have finished off their pyjama shorts! Dont they look fabulous?! Well done girls! #proudtobeloreto
19.01.2022 Happy Thursday! Throughout the creative dance unit, our Year 7 students were taught a variety of Hip-Hop Dance techniques which have an emphasis on self-expression, creativity and enjoyment. Through this process, students develop rhythmic, coordination and creative skills necessary to the art of designing dance routines. The girls worked in groups of 3 or 4 and were given approximately five lessons to design, plan and practise a group routine to the music Uptown Funk. Each group was required to choreograph two verses of the song and perform this with the class chorus. Check out these funky dance moves! Well done girls! #proudtobeloreto
19.01.2022 We would like to invite our Loreto Community to join an online event on Tuesday 15 September at 6pm (next week) to listen to Dr Adam Fraser, an award-winning human performance researcher and consultant who studies how individuals thrive in challenging and evolving environments. This exclusive event for parents will provide tools to help parents and guardians to help their kids navigate a better and more robust relation with struggle and discomfort in order to evolve and stri...ve. Youll get a chance to hear the latest research on helping yourselves and your children navigate and ultimately have a better functional relationship with struggle. If this sounds interesting to you, make a note in your calendar. A link will be sent via email to all parents next week. The link will be live until midnight, Tuesday 15 September.
19.01.2022 Well done to our Year 6 Debating Team who made it to the Grand Final. The girls went down by just two points! A great effort by all to reach this stage and we congratulate Iris, Portia, Zoe and Sienna who debated on the challenging topic, That the media should not print or show statements by politicians that they know to be untrue with Loreto having the affirmative stance. The Grand Final was held via Zoom, but it was fantastic to see a number parents and supporters watching on from their home and workplaces! #proudtobeloreto
18.01.2022 Year 8 students commenced their study of portraiture with observation drawing exercises and progressed to creating a self-portrait. Observing artists’ portraits was a catalyst for thinking creatively about communicating character strengths and personal identity. Congratulations girls on your achievements this semester. #proudtobeloreto
18.01.2022 Our College received a heart-warming message from Old Scholar, Georgie Smith (12'). Please take a read below and we encourage you to follow the link to donate or register to run for a good cause! "Loreto played a huge role in making our wonderful friend and sister Amelia Smith, who has been living with brain cancer since 2011, in helping her throughout this ordeal. During Amelias school years [graduating in 2012], Loreto played a huge role in making her school experience as ...incredible as it was. We will never forget how included and welcomed Mill and her friends felt when navigating the wheelchair through every class room and school event. Continual effort and support went into school activities and events being accessible and fun for all access needs and she didnt miss out on a single thing. Millie went to her Year 12 formal, Year 12 Graduation, socials, parties and was a centre star on Athletics Day wheeling her way around for the 800m run. We never thought this could happen and we have the wonderful Loreto community and its values to thank for it. In 2014, a ramp was built to ensure further access to the Year 12 corridor. Along with many other support systems, Loreto provided a space where Amelias friendships could blossom and grow even through a very difficult time, and gave continual support when they needed it most. Loreto provided an inclusive and loving school experience for not only Amelia but for all her friends and her entire cohort. Wed love for anyone interested to join our run or donate via the link. Much love Georgie Smith and Isabelle Zerella" #proudtobeloreto https://www.connorsrun.com//wake-us-up-when-september-ends

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Iris (Year 6) and Charlotte (Year 10) who have been awarded the Chinese Language Award for 2020! This award is a fantastic way to reward and encourage students’ language learning achievements. The girls were selected for this award based on the criteria that they are a non-native learner studying Chinese as an additional language along with enthusiasm for Chinese studies and the knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture. The girls would normally attend an inspirational evening of celebration and encouragement of their Chinese language learning, however, due to the current circumstances, the ceremony was unable to be held. Well done on this wonderful achievement! #proudtobeloreto

17.01.2022 Students leaders in Years 11 and 12 were invited to attend a presentation by our very own Dr Nicole Archard at St Aloysius College today. If you are a girl in Australia, you are more likely to finish Year 12, more likely to go to university, and more likely to achieve higher academic results than boys. So, what then is the problem? Dr Archard looked at the issues faced by women leaders and how they are making a difference. #proudtobeloreto
16.01.2022 What a week it has been working with the @adelaidecrowsfoundation as they delivered a comprehensive STEMFooty Program for our Year 7 cohort. Yesterday the girls were able to measure their reaction times using nine reaction light units and comparing their score to an AFL player, investigated trajectory of a football by changing the angle the ball is released at using a slingshot, how the football can be affected by weather conditions, using heart rate monitors and how increased heart rate affects performance as well as kicking and measuring. The girls have learnt a great deal throughout this program and we thank Katie Gloede, STEMFooty Program Manager at the Adelaide Crows for all your work in making this a successful program. #proudtobeloreto #STEMories #stem #stemfooty
16.01.2022 As part of Science Week, our Junior Girls were able to explore a coding activity where a programme was downloaded to the Microbit Unit - smiley buttons and Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spock. The enthusiastic participants then continued making their 3D object in Tinkercard as part of STEM Clubs Design Thinking Challenge based on a toy for a child on Mars. Wow! To learn more, head to the Junior STEM Club which runs on Wednesday afternoons and our Tech Club (coding and technology skills) which runs on Tuesdays at lunch time! #proudtobeloreto #STEM #girlsinSTEM #scienceweek

In addition to their classes, students have been busy working during lunch to complete their major practical works - take a look at their final pieces! Well done girls! #proudtobeloreto
13.01.2022 Today is the College's version of the national R U Ok? Day. To include all students of various developmental ages, we have adapted the slogan to 'Let's smile and ask each other How R U?' as a way to build positive relationships and friendships with our peers at the College. Recently, our Year 12 Executive put together a beautiful video to send to our sisters at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak and Loreto College, Ballarat to show just how much we are thinking of them in this di...fficult time. Take the time to look at the lovely messages our girls are sending their way. As for our community here at Loreto Marryatville, we can all take a step forward and grow as a community by asking ourselves and each other, "How are you?". Breaking the stigma around asking for help from friends, family and teachers will help make our community a happy and healthy one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf9N1y1M-4w #HowRUDay #proudtobeloreto
12.01.2022 During 2020, we have had 38 girls across the College participating in Aerobics. The girls have been learning their routine and developing fitness for the past eight months, and even with the challenges of COVID-19 and online learning, our girls have persisted with their training online until they were able to train together again. Their dedication to this wonderful sport was evident as they took to the stage for the first time in 2020 on Sunday. Five Loreto teams comprised o...f girls from Years 6-11 who competed in the Blitz It Aerobics Competition. Our LC Seniors received 1st Place in the Youth Large Aerobics Team category, LC Blaze received 1st place in the Cadet Large Aerobics Team category and the LC Soul Sisters received 2nd place in the Junior Large Aerobics Team category. The girls have been comparing the needs of themselves and of plants and animals, as well as recognising the needs of living things in a range of situations such as pets, plants in the garden or in the bush land. As a surprise for the girls, our Reception class were delighted when Ms De Angelis welcomed a new class pet - a goldfis...h! The girls will be observing the goldfish and its needs over the course of the term and comparing the needs of goldfish to other living things. Stay tuned for the naming of the goldfish! #proudtobeloreto
05.01.2022 At the College, eSafety, the safe use of technology and the internet, is a significant priority in the education of our girls. In the current climate, the girls may be bombarded with, and enticed to engage with many sites and apps. These sites and apps are carefully marketed to appeal to younger populations but negatively can potentially place a girl in a vulnerable position that she isnt prepared for developmentally. Long term, the girls digital reputation may be negative...ly impacted as her footprint remains active. As educators and parents, it is critical that the girls are coached in a way to foster positive engagement online. The resources available under the SEAD tile eSafety on Loreto Connect, link our families to the most up to date and relevant information from experts in the field to ensure that families are well-informed with the latest e-safety information suitable for their daughters age group. We encourage you to visit this link for further information.
