25.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day and is a reminder of the impact a single conversation can have. This year as a school community we are focusing on what to say after R U OK? If you notice someone is struggling, take the time to ask R U OK? When someone says theyre not OK, make sure you take time to listen, encourage action and check-in. You can learn more about what to say after R U OK? Here: www.ruok.org.au

08.01.2022 LORETO WOMEN CAREER PROFILES Each fortnight, we are showcasing the stories, studies and careers of our Loreto alumni. Esther Cramer (Kleinig) / Class of 2004 / Social Work & Family Violence Counselling... Since leaving Loreto in 2004, I moved to Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Social Work/Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) at RMIT. I've spent most of my time since working at Anglicare Victoria, where I've been a family services case manager and a family violence counsellor. What I love most about my job is talking with people to help them make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I do that in lots of ways, like listening to their stories, helping them find the right words, noticing patterns, and offering information to guide them. Obviously I do that with clients, but I also do it when debriefing with colleagues, and even outside work when I'm talking to friends. It's the thing that makes me feel most like myself. (That and sleep!) While at university, I found my social work placements to be very challenging - while I learned a lot, I also felt out of my depth. I didn't feel equipped to do more of that after I graduated, and I wasn't ready to do additional study to become a psychologist. So instead I worked in a public service job for a while. Two years after graduating, I felt my internal drive to be helping people directly again, so I took my first social work job in family services at Anglicare Victoria and having been developing my practice skills there ever since. During my time at Loreto I really valued the religious education I received. Although I already came from a religious background, my time in RE gave me opportunities to reflect on my values and develop a passion for social justice, which led me to social work. I also loved studying Psychology in Year 11 and 12 (with Mrs Ferguson and Mr Murphy). I found it fascinating, so of course I studied it at university as well! Having a background in psychology has given me a great foundation for working with people, because I'm always drawing on that knowledge to help me understand what a person is going through and how I can support them. My advice for students is that other people can tell you what they think you're good at, but only you know what you love to do. I was quite good at maths and was encouraged to study the hardest maths, but I knew I didn't want anything maths-related in my future work, and I was happier to pursue my passion.

08.01.2022 Before we entered remote learning recently, our VCE Drama students had a chance to perform their Unit 3 Ensemble Performance. Performing fractured fairy tales using performance styles and characters from stories such as Rapunzel, The Snow Queen, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. The students explored a range of themes such as depression, sexism, poverty and body image, ultimately producing a very powerful performance!
