25.01.2022 Looking for some holiday reading? Before the school year finished up, our talented student journalists published this summer issue of 'The Mary Word.' https://bit.ly/3nhppop

25.01.2022 "Loreto girls expect, allow and encourage other girls to be leaders; to have ambition, purpose & a desire for service." As you can read in this article, our new School Captains are already living the joyful servant leadership typical of strong Loreto women.https://bit.ly/2UJrCwk

24.01.2022 Your Advent Calendars today show the original entrance to our School, founded as a boarding school in 1897. Since then, generations of Normo girls have walked through these doors before launching off to make their mark on the world. #StartHereGoAnywhere https://bit.ly/2VB8UY4

24.01.2022 Loreto Normanhurst girls college out on the Hawkesbury River today on a picture perfect day for these students, who were on their first Clean4shore field trip. ... Our target was Sandbrook Inlet, referred locally as "The Gut" , for obvious reasons, however the low tide prevented early access and we ventured West of the freeway bridge into the small inlet of Lloyds Bay for an introduction to the program and to discover the mud associated with our work. The girls did great removing three full bags of small litter and two illegal fish traps. A bit of "rock hopping" as litter sites were uncovered on the foreshore close to the freeway bridge, then a lounge chair and motor vehicle parts were removed under the freeway bridge. The rising tide allowed access to Sandbrook Inlet and on Long Island the bulk of the rubbish began to appear with residential items more likely from the derelict vessels moored in this waterway. Marine ply and painted hull timber litters the Long Island foreshore. In the corner adjacent to the rail line was by far the worst site, notorious for collecting floating litter that simply has no where else to go. Large polystyrene boxes, plastic bottles, marine parts and a marine seat all piled up in this tiny five metre square corner of "The Gut". Along the rail line more marine parts, rope and additional plastic bottles and polystyrene were collected. Dozens of old vessels are moored or tied up in the back end of the this waterway, very poor reflection on continual "bad habits". A seven metre catamaran is partially sunk and a probable ongoing supply of marine litter. This vessel needs to be removed before it does sink. Great day out, outstanding effort by the Loreto girls and their proactive teaching supervisors with 440 kilos of litter delivered to Woy Woy Landfill. Clean4shore will follow up on any action or assistance to remove some of the vessels in Sandbrook Inlet. See more

24.01.2022 Year 10 SPRINT Week is all about real-world problem-solving, collaboration and thinking outside the box. We have already seen plenty of creativity and animated debate so far this week, and can't wait to hear our students make their pitches to industry professionals this Friday.

23.01.2022 This Flashback Friday is a quiet one here at school as LN students enjoy their holidays with family and friends. Our quad has always been a place of gathering, conversation, celebration and busyness. It might be quiet for now, but we are looking forward to seeing students gathering back here for the start of Term 4 on Monday 12 October! #FlashbackFriday #LNArchives

23.01.2022 Our inaugural Year 11 Alumni Career Chats Program has been a success this week. Different students spoke with a lawyer, engineer, physio, artist, journalist and more! A big thanks to participating alumni for their time and welcome advice about the workforce.

22.01.2022 Today we buried our Loreto Normanhurst Time Capsule containing letters, drawings and artefacts collected by our Archivist. When it is opened in 100 years, it will shed light on life at Loreto in the unique context of 2020. Thank you to our students, staff and alumni - a little piece of each of you and of our Normo grit and resilience will be preserved in this special spot under our Oak Tree! #LNArchives #LN2120

22.01.2022 Year 9 Red group students were able to hear First Nations perspectives and learn from the land during their visit to Gibberagong Environmental Education Centre in Kuring-gai Chase National Park. Here, they're starting a fire using nothing but flint and steel. #LNSonglines2020

Our Liturgy Captain, Annie, spoke this beautiful prayer at our whole-school liturgy at the end of term. "Jesus, you are God-among-us, You are the Light of our world. May we praise you just as the angels did;... May we feel joy just as the shepherds did; May we seek you and worship you just like the wise kings. And may we always show your love to those around us." 14.01.2022 "Starting boarding in Year 10 was both daunting and exciting. Although I was worried about making new friends, the community spirit and great group of girls soon calmed my nerves. 14.01.2022 We hope you enjoyed the splash of colour and felicity from your Advent Calendars this #FlashbackFriday. Eucalyptus blossoms are very special to Normo history - the first school newsletter was named after them and they were the symbols of our 120 Anniversary celebrations in 2017!

13.01.2022 Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all members of our Loreto Normanhurst community! May you enjoy this time of celebration and new beginnings. We share with you this icon lovingly hand-painted by Sr Jan Barlow IBVM and pray you have a hope-filled start to 2021.

13.01.2022 This week, and all weeks, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which we teach and learn. Loreto Normanhurst is on land that always was and always will be that of the Terramerragal clan of the Kuring-gai people of the Eora nation. We proudly commit to the celebration and recognition of all First Nations cultures and histories. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek

13.01.2022 Well done Eloise, Chelsea and Breahna, from our Year 11 Kirby Cup Team. Ms Ugonotti and Mrs Long enjoyed hearing about the girls' experience today.

12.01.2022 Our Advent Calendar lately captures two Loreto visionaries whose legacies live on in our community. The rosary beads held by our Mary Ward sculpture symbolise her governing faith in God's grace. The Gonzaga Barry rose honours the founder of Loreto schools in Australia.

11.01.2022 We have had lots of learning unfold inside and outside the classroom lately. Read about our Year 9 Songlines Experience, NAIDOC Week, sporting achievements, Primary School Loreto's Got Talent contest and more in our latest newsletter here: https://bit.ly/3lAJYLH

10.01.2022 Congratulations Phillipa (Class of 2020) on being nominated for possible inclusion in ENCORE, a showcase of exceptional HSC Music works from across the state. A very recent LN graduate and our 2020 School Captain, Phillipa is also talented clarinetist. We're so proud!

10.01.2022 The Reception Room has seen many a Normo girl pass under its ceiling. Restored in 2017, it was the first classroom in 1897, is the gathering place for music performances and luncheons, and is currently being used as an exam room for the HSC! #FlashbackFriday #LNArchives

10.01.2022 The Staff/Student Race aired at this week's live-streamed assembly. The competition was fierce and the spirits high, with a close finish between Mr Charters and Sophie, our Queen of the Track. So close, in fact, that we put it to a vote... Watch this space! #LetsGoLoreto

09.01.2022 Happy birthday to our foundress and "dangerous innovator," Mary Ward, who was born on this day in 1585 in Yorkshire, England. In a time of great uncertainty and religious persecution, Mary Ward actively lived out her faith in the glory of God and her conviction that 'women in time to come will do much' as a pioneer of girls' education and the foundress of the apostolic, international Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We're proud to continue her legacy of Felicity, Justice, Freedom, Sincerity, Verity alongside other Loreto schools and ministries worldwide. We see glimpses of her grit, optimism and determination every day in our students!

09.01.2022 We've loved opening our Advent Calendars with you across these first days of December. So far, we've unveiled the special symbols of the Loreto Crest shared by Loreto communities around the world. The Cross is a symbol of salvation, the Sacred Heart of Jesus' love, the Loving Heart of the courage of Mary and the Anchor of hope. What will tomorrow's window hold?

08.01.2022 We are delighted to share this 1967 newspaper clipping about Mother Miriam IBVM, who will be remembered by many of our alumni. Having studied for her Doctorate in Philosophy in Canada, she spoke about ice-skating as a sure highlight! #FlashbackFriday #LNArchives

08.01.2022 As we end the school year, we reflect on 2020 - a year that was full of change & challenge, but also one which saw the Normo community spirit, compassion, creativity & resilience shine. We hope you enjoy this video of highlights from the year. Thank you to our amazing LN community - we wish you and your families a lovely start to the holidays. #LoveWillKeepUsTogether @loretonh

08.01.2022 Today is the Feast of St Michael and the Archangels, also known as Michaelmas. Every Loreto school in Australia has a statue of St Michael on their grounds. This tradition dates back to the late 1600s, a time of Catholic persecution, when prayers to St Michael were believed to have protected Bar Convent in York from a violent riot. Today we pray for the blessing and protection of all those experiencing fear or violence.

08.01.2022 This morning we celebrated the Story of Christmas through a whole-school liturgy, held on the Sr Veronica Reid Oval, and with our school and bush as beautiful backdrops to this special gathering for our community.

07.01.2022 We're proud of our HSC Design and Technology students for pushing the envelope and producing amazing works. Congratulations to Catherine and Jemima for being nominated to Shape 2020 for their outstanding efforts. #unleashthedesigner #HSCDesignandTechnology #girlsbygirls

07.01.2022 From the resilience of our HSC students during exams to the joy of our Primary girls during Book Week, this full fortnight has brimmed with community spirit and achievement. In this newsletter, join Ms Ugonotti in celebrating the wonderful initiatives unfolding at LN. https://bit.ly/2IjyAm2

07.01.2022 Our Primary School public speakers did not shy away from the tricky topics at yesterday's finals. They presented imaginative, well-researched speeches exploring big ideas such as truth and courage. We learned a lot from their passion and powerful words!

07.01.2022 Year 9 is wrapping up the first week of their Songlines Experience. We're so proud of our girls for throwing themselves in to all challenges and to discovering new things. Here are some highlights from the week - caring for the coast on the Northern Beaches; getting muddy at Camp Somerset; listening and learning about First Nations cultures at Muogamarra and at school. #LNSonglines2020

06.01.2022 We snapped up some fresh produce this morning from the Year 10 Agricultural Studies students. This lettuce and bok choy was grown hydroponically right here at LN, with all funds raised going to House of Welcome. Thanks Amelia, Ella, Brigitta, Zoe and Brigid.

06.01.2022 Introducing the LN Pop Up Library! Our Learning Resource Centre has been temporarily relocated for Years 7-11, in order to support our HSC students as they knuckle down over the next few weeks. Thanks to our LRC staff for building an interim space in which to gather, learn and unwind.

05.01.2022 We were thrilled to meet the newest members of our community at our Orientation Day. It was our pleasure to introduce students from Years 5-11 2021 to a day in the life of our school. Welcome to the Loreto family!

05.01.2022 Today's window from our Advent Calendar reveals the Loreto Normanhurst school hat, a recognisable part of our uniform throughout the years!

05.01.2022 Scrumptious, strategist, serendipity... Our spelling superstars faced these words and more with impressive perseverance at the Primary School Principal's Spelling Bee Finals. A big round of applause to all involved.

04.01.2022 Happy First Day! A warm welcome to all members of our community, new and returning, as we celebrate this year of Felicity. 04.01.2022 On the first #FlashbackFriday of 2021, the term is well and truly under way at LN. Just as they have been at the start of new school years past, the overpass, halls, classrooms and quads were abuzz this morning with the energy and optimism of students ready for learning. A special welcome back to our alumni and members of our broader LN community. #LNArchives

04.01.2022 One final community farewell this afternoon, ending with a surprise guard of honour, as we applaud and celebrate the graduates of the Class of 2020! #girlsbygirls

04.01.2022 "St Patrick's Day. The weather was dull, but our spirits were high. Terry thinks she nearly got drowned in two feet of water. We'll never hear the end of it." - 1949 School Annual of IBVM in Australia As the weather warms up, we flash back to when the Sisters took boarders to Roseville Baths for a swim, back in the 1930s. This annual tradition is not unlike our current boarders' Commitment Weekend trip to Clifton Gardens! #FlashbackFriday #LNArchives #LNBoarding

03.01.2022 Our students are getting outside the classroom to learn leadership, independence and teamwork as part of #LNSonglines2020. A little bit of rain didn't stop Year 9 Yellow group from making the most of mountain biking yesterday!

03.01.2022 Last week, the Class of 2020 gathered for their formal Graduation ceremony and dinner. It looked a bit different to these celebrations from Loreto formals and dances in years past! #LNArchives #FlashbackFriday

02.01.2022 "This set me thinking and wishing that our dear Loreto children were a 'row of goodly pearls.' I would string my pearls on a triple cord, strong and sure." - Mother Gonzaga Barry IBVM The pearl, adorning the pin from Ms Ugonotti's Principal's Commissioning, holds a special place in the Loreto story in Australia. You would have seen it in your Advent Calendars! There is still time to purchase your calendar here: https://bit.ly/2TRzpHO
