18.01.2022 Welcome to Lorimer & Associates. I am excited that we are now open for business.

17.01.2022 - Are you running your business through a company or trust? - Do you receive more than 50% of your business income from your skills, knowledge or expertise? If so, you are likely to be caught under the Personal Services Income Rules which can have adverse affects. There are various tests you can work through methodically to determine whether the PSI Rules have application for your business. ... Whilst the PSI Rules have been around for a while, the audit activity from the Tax Office is increasing substantially in this area. With the end of the financial year fast approaching, please contact me if you have any concerns, or would like further detail. Fiona

11.01.2022 Are you SuperStream compliant? With the end of the financial year fast approaching, employers are required to be registered for SuperStream from 30 June 2016 (if not already registered). If all of your employees use the same super fund, I would recommend contacting that fund to establish the best way of ensuring you are compliant. If your employees are with different funds, my recommendation would be to go with the free Superannuation Clearing House. Here is some info on ...SuperStream and below a link to the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House. https://www.ato.gov.au/super/superstream/employers/ https://www.ato.gov.au//Using-the-small-business-superann/ Fiona

06.01.2022 DO YOU RECEIVE DIVIDENDS? IF SO THIS IS ESSENTIAL READING - Interesting article. If the law ever changed it would have a significant impact. Companies pay tax on behalf of their shareholders, and pass that tax on so it can ultimately be taxed at the marginal rate of the shareholder. If your marginal rate of tax is less than the company rate, you receive a refund, if your marginal rate is higher, you pay top up tax. Changing the law affects more than just the wealthy. Mum and dad small business, retirees and not just those with SMSFs.

01.01.2022 The superannuation legislation has changed significantly over the last decade. Some "better" news for SMSF members. http://us11.campaign-archive1.com/

01.01.2022 Since the introduction of compulsory superannuation in the 90's, this area has been a priority for the Tax Office in protecting employees retirement funds. This new proposed legislation goes that one step further. Bottom line, ensure your employees/contractors provide correct super fund details when employed, and ensure payments to that super fund are made on time. https://www.accountantsdaily.com.au//11284-tax-technical-q
