18.01.2022 As leadership and culture work begins to gain momentum in 2021, I've noticed a distinct pattern among those I chat to. For some parts of the world the pandemic is settling-there is some 'normal' activity restarting. For other parts, it is the worst it has ever been, new outbreaks continue, healthcare is unavailable or over-run and the uncertainty is suffocating. In other parts again, in addition to the pandemic, there are governments in disarray and distrust in leadership. Th...is week I'll be shining a spotlight on Well Being. It may seem like a buzz word, but we are just not doing enough of it for ourselves, or for the support of others trying to do it well. If you are a leader-ask your people what they need. If you are a team member, check in on your colleagues. If you are you-give yourself some time to think about what being-well means for you. And then what you need to do that. #wellbeing #overwhelm #doingwell #coach #facilitator #leadership #emotionallyledleadership #lorissagarciadotcom #hr #humanresources #organisationaldevelopment #organizationaldevelopment #culture
16.01.2022 "Positive and negative emotions cause different physiological reactions within our bodies and brains, releasing powerful chemicals that, in turn, affect our physical and mental well-being" Marc Brackett My book of the year last year was Permission to Feel by the fabulous Marc Brackett. In the book, Marc explores the impacts that emotions can have on us and the lasting impacts when we are not given permission to 'feel' our emotions. One of the tools he co-developed with collea...gue David Caruso was the Mood Meter, a framework to determine your emotions based on energy and pleasantness. What I found most helpful with a framework like this, is that when we have language around what we feel - positive or negative, we can name it, talk about it, process it and unpack the layers that are within those feelings. It provides clarity, it normalises feeling a range of emotions, and it gives us cause to pause and check in on our own wellbeing. Check out the MoodMeter framework, and the app http://moodmeterapp.com/
13.01.2022 2020: Pandemic hits. We panic buy toilet paper and dried pasta. We go home, we stay home. We all transition to working from home, in poorly set up offices at kitchen tables and on ironing boards. ... Working all hours, zoom calls, pivoting, closing businesses, family, kids, financial pressure, caring commitments, exercise, looming job losses, relaxation (?), zoom yoga, unstable economies, virtual birthdays, bread making, politics, Bridgerton, BLM movements. Days become weeks, we've forgotten how to socialise, how to connect with people in real time. And our hands - what do we do with our hands when we ARE talking to people in real life? We've perhaps forgotten who we are. What we need. How to connect with ourselves. How we thrive, and not just continue to survive. In 2020, Hummingly released the Pandemic Pack, a deck of useful, science backed cards to help get us through challenging times. It's light, super practical and designed by people who are experts in disruption and disaster. Lucky for us - the lovely founders have released a digital pack for free. FREE!! 06.01.2022 Do you check in with your emotions at work? As a leader, as a HR professional, a team member or maybe you are an entrepreneur? Whatever role you may be in right now, do you ever stop to think about how you are feeling, or have you ever wondered what is causing that 3pm slump, other than lack of sugar or caffeine? Or do you squash your frustrations down and keep moving forward to get the job done? This Friday afternoon, I urge you to stop, for a moment and think about those ne...gative emotions that come up at work and how much of this can we actually control?
