25.01.2022 Work in progress

25.01.2022 "Guerrilla kindness is leaving tiny works of craft out on the streets for people to find and take home, to make their day a little brighter and the world a nice...r place. I don’t ask for anything in return each work is a gift, given freely, to make a stranger’s day." The crafting community is one full of character and camaraderie. From knitting and kumihimo to sewing and scherenschnitte, craft spins hope and unity when the world outside can feel like it’s unravelling. In our latest issue we caught up with craftivist Sayraphim Lothian, author of 'Guerrilla Kindness and Other Acts of Creative Resistance', to learn about how craft can be used to make a political and social statement. Grab a copy from your local newsy or our website it's on sale now! #peppermintmagazine #craftivism #guerrillakindness #streetcraft #streetartactivism See more

08.01.2022 Our last exhibition for 2020

08.01.2022 Loved this post....perfect for now: Coloring has helped millions of people all throughout the world relax and feel calm as soon as they put the marker to the pa...ge. One woman, though, has come up with an even cooler way to color. Using a 1.0 size sharpie, Barbara Moloney Callen, gently traces the lines that naturally occur in sea shells. This simple tracing produces a beautiful color contrast of blue against white, making for a stunning photo. Not only is this beautiful to look at but according to a new study taking up coloring can help reduce stress and improve creativity in adults. Researchers discovered that after 20 minutes of coloring, participants were more relaxed and calmer. The amygdala, which is the fear center of your brain, gets a much needed break. When your brain is focused on the lines of the shells instead of the worries of the world, a gentle mindfulness and quietness takes over, creating a meditative like experience.

04.01.2022 Nick Olsen is a Brisbane artist who has exhibited in Australia and internationally for over 30 years. Nick's studio is beneath his raised Queenslander so it is ...easy access for a range of ‘animalian’ friends. Nick loves having animals around, probably as a result of growing up on a dairy farm. His two studio dogs are Rosie (blue healer) and Toulouse (Dalmatian) and they love the cool of his shady studio floor. This painting is of the studio dogs plus some feathered visitors, Belgian D’uccle bantams and Wyandotte chickens which Nick breeds. They like to visit the studio and join Nick for lunch. This gorgeous work is currently on display at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery in the FOUND! Studio Dog exhibition. Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery 1 Barolin Street Mon to Fri 9.30am to 5.00pm and Sat + Sun 10.00am to 2.00pm. Image: Nick Olsen, About the Chooks, 2020,oil on canvas, 40 x 50 cm.
