25.01.2022 Jason will be operating his coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc each weekend until the end of July. His customers are welcome to sit inside or out as long as they sign the form and stick to the capacity and social distancing rules

24.01.2022 Good news! We can now have up to 20 people inside the club house! Come and join us for froth

24.01.2022 AGM REPORT Our AGM this year was done in record time because we emailed out our reports for the year to every member and also included it on our website. We handled the reports as being read so we didn’t have to read them out. We also had about 100 proxy forms signed so that also helped to move things along quickly. We had a near capacity crowd and straight after the fishing awards we had an open bar and a sausage sizzle which was generously supplied by our AGM Sponsor FoodWorks Lorne.

23.01.2022 FISHING REPORT The first month of winter has been very kind to us with lots of calm days. Even though its been cold its never as cold out on the ocean when theres not much wind, weve been taking our coats off by late morning most days. The fishing has been pretty good with the water still sitting around the 13 degree mark so it looks like it wont get any colder than that now. The sea is still full of plankton, jellyfish and krill which is keeping the food chain healthy. ...Theres still lots of dolphins about rounding up the schools of small fish feeding on the krill. The flathead fishing has been the best winter run of flatties for as long as anyone can remember with some really good sized ones amongst them. Lots of gummy and school sharks being caught but the swell or draughtboard sharks are a real nuisance at the moment. The snapper are a bit patchy but if you can find a patch of them they are on the chew with some good sized ones being caught. Salmon have been very scarce. I havent seen a school of them busting up the surface for a couple of months. Still catching a very welcome bi catch of; big Teraki, Sweep, Nannygai and Swallowtail while fishing for snapper. The King George Whiting have gone but they are still catching heaps in Port Phillip Bay. The abundance or lack of fish is always related to one thing. Food. So Im assuming the food that whiting prefer isnt here at the moment but is in the Bay. The pier is still fishing really well with all the usual species being caught in good numbers. See more

22.01.2022 MASKS HAVE ARRIVED! You can purchase the LAAC face masks at Kafe Kaos during opening hours. CASH ONLY PLEASE. For those of you who are out of town and would like to order some, please contact [email protected]. Those of you who have already enquired, they will be posted from Monday.

22.01.2022 UNUSUAL FISH CAUGHT OFF LORNE This is a Moonlighter or Six Banded Coral Fish. It was caught by local angler Jamie Trigg and quickly released to swim away happily. Back in the 1970s while diving I used to see lots of these fish all around the Victorian, SA and NSW coastlines but they have become quite scarce over the last decade or so. Ive never heard of one being caught by a hook and wasnt aware it was even possible. Jamie must be a very skillful angler to get a hook into ...that tiny little mouth. They are endemic to southern Australia and can be found on rocky reefs in depths up to 120 metres. They can grow up to 40cm and Wikipedia tells me that they are commercially important which I find hard to believe. Ive never seen one in a fish market but I know they are sought after in the aquarium trade. As you can see they are quite beautiful. See more

20.01.2022 UPCOMING EVENTS Our next fishing competition is our second Winter Cup Comp sponsored by Hillec Electrical Services on Sunday August the 2nd. As usual the weigh in will start at midday and the cut off is 12.30pm. I use my phone for the cut off time so there is no argument over times on watches being wrong. We have had this issue in the past. We will be supplying a free mixed grill to all competitors and members just after the presentations to the winners which is usually around 1pm. All welcome especially the juniors. We need all the parents and grandparents out there to get the kids away from the screens and out into the fresh salt air and enjoy Mother Nature. We now have a resident baby seal who has made the pier home. He or she has been a huge hit with the tourists and has starred in more photos than the Taj Mahal.

20.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to the latest reports from the Victorian State Government and an update from the COVID Marshall, YOU MUST WEAR A MASK INDOORS from 5pm today! The state government has just announced that masks will be mandatory indoors in Victoria from 5pm today when people are outside their private residence. The Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club will be operating as normal, but we request for the safety of our staff and members that you wear a mask when indoors

19.01.2022 Good News! There are no active cases of COVID-19 in the Lorne area... Therefore we have decided to open the club tonight, Monday 3rd August and Wednesday 5th August from 4pm. We will be closed from Thursday 6th August for the foreseeable future as stage 3 restrictions are rolled out across regional Victoria. We hope to see you on Monday or Wednesday, dont forget your mask!

18.01.2022 GREAT OCEAN ROAD GARLIC COMPETITION SPONSORED BY LORNE PHARMACY In December we held our annual Garlic Comp. It was a huge night with a capacity crowd and 22 entries. The Senior winner was Belinda Stewart and the Junior winner was Finn Boland. Belinda’s bulb was 120 grams and 75mm and Finns was 136 grams and 76mm but it’s not all about size, it’s a lot more scientific than that. Finn also won last year so he is a back to back champ. A special mention to Ashley who claims to ha...ve come all the way from Darwin to enter. Belinda Stewart told our judges that her winning entry was grown in prize winning bullshit. The chosen fertiliser was produced by her daughters Black Angus Bull which won first place at the Royal Melbourne Show recently. (an interesting note, the winner and the fertiliser share the same initials). Growers Tip: Don’t plant your garlic near beans or peas. Report by Doug Williams. Lorne’s leading horticulturalist and famous garlic judge. Following the presentation we served up a sausage sizzle which was beautifully cooked by David and Anne McCormack. Note: David came last in our garlic comp with a bulb that needed a magnifying glass to see it but he then won the crayfish in our raffle generously donated by our local legendary cray fisherman Stephen Love. 17.01.2022 FACE MASKS HAVE SOLD OUT! We have ordered more and will let you know on our LAAC page on Facebook when they arrive. For any enquiries, please contact [email protected].

17.01.2022 RECENT EVENTS Unfortunately we were forced to cancel our August Winter Cup Fishing Competition. There had been indirect contact with a positive COVID case who had visited Lorne by one of our members. Fortunately all the tests were negative but we didnt have this information until after the comp date and decided to play it safe and cancel the comp. Naturally Murphys Law ensued, the weather was perfect, blue skies, no wind or swell and our last competition junior champ Jack Hunter fished off the pier and caught 3 beautiful big King George Whiting.

16.01.2022 Jason our world famous barista will be opening from this Saturday 19th September from 8am for take away coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc for a couple of weeks.

15.01.2022 Happy New Year Everyone. Let’s hope 2021 is a big improvement on last year. Things are humming along nicely at the club especially with our new outdoor extension area which we have nicknamed ‘’The Outer Sanctum’’ working beautifully. Under the current Covid restrictions we can take up to 176 members which is a very comfortable number especially with our extra space. A special thanks to our Vice Commodore, Ric Addison who negotiated getting the new area with GORCAPA who were v...ery helpful so a thanks to them also. We are continuing with the members only policy until all the restrictions are removed. Membership is only $45 each or $60 for a family which is a couple including children under 18. It’s the best value for money membership anywhere. We are now open 7 days a week, opening at 2pm daily and midday on Sundays until Easter. Hutch and his staff are still serving up the worlds coldest handles of Carlton Draught and Great Northern Mid Strength Draught beer. We are running free sausage sizzles every Wednesday and Friday evenings and running the odd raffle. The profits from our raffles go to local charities so please be generous. See more

14.01.2022 Don't forget, the AGM is tomorrow, Sat 28th Nov from 5pm. Please book a table with Hutch if you wish to attend.

14.01.2022 WORKING BEE Last month we held a working bee where we lowered the west end of our beer garden fence and made an entrance for our new outside area which we will call ‘’The Outer Sanctum Bar’’ We had a great attendance and finished the job before lunchtime. We even had time to paint the fish cleaning shed.

14.01.2022 ALBATROSSES When we are out in our boats fishing we often get surrounded by heaps of Albatross. Ive had up to 30 around my boat. I reckon they know my boat by now because they start appearing as soon as I drop anchor and we always give them a feed of all the inedible fish we catch that die on the way up. There are quite a few species of albatross but in our area we mainly see three; Shy, Black Browed and Yellow Nose. The photos below are of Shy Albatross. They were named by ...the early seafarers because they wouldnt come close to their ships and were considered to be shy but thats definitely not the case these days. Ive had them within touching distance trying sometimes successfully to grab fish off the hooks. They are huge birds with a wing span up to 2.6 metres and can fly 1,000 klm in 24hours , they live up to 60 years old, mate for life and are the only Albatross endemic to Australia. They nest on 3 islands off the coast of Tasmania in late September each year. They are listed as endangered which surprises me because they appear to be increasing in numbers at least in our little area in Bass Strait. They must be related to Labradors because you cant fill them up. They just keep eating and eating. Ive had them swallow fish whole up to 2kg. See more

14.01.2022 RECENT EVENTS Melbourne Cup Extravaganza We had to limit the numbers for this years event but I reckon it was the best one ever.... The weather was sunny and warm so we removed the marquee and set up lots of umbrellas. Because of the Table Service only rule we encouraged each table to bring an esky which allowed everyone to purchase wine and beer by the bottle which made it a lot easier for Hutch and his staff. Everyone received a free champagne on arrival and we supplied chicken for lunch. Each table brought along their own salad and nibbles. We ran several sweeps for every race and set up an outside TV so everyone could see each race. A special thanks to Michael Causon who ran all the sweeps and helped organise the day. The fashions on the field were a great success with Rose Riberu winning the Ladies Section and Ric Addison winning the Gentleman’s. The best Ladies Hat also went to Rose Riberu. Best Mens Hat was taken out by Jamie Trigg. And this year we had a Best Mask section which was won by Leslie Goldsworthy. See more

14.01.2022 FACE MASKS HAVE ARRIVED! The masks will be available for purchase at Kafe Kaos and Gazman during opening hours from tomorrow. CASH ONLY PLEASE. ALL PROFITS WILL GO TO LOCAL CHARITIES

14.01.2022 TREASURES REPORT Once again on the financial front there is very little to update since last months report and we are continuing to minimise costs and the government stimulus are continuing to be received. We were open during July and through to 5th August. Once again, we have closed in compliance with the Victorian Government implementing Stage 3 restrictions. During the weeks we were open, bar takings have averaged around $2,000 per week. With Jobkeeper being received, th...e financial result for July will be close to breakeven. Financial projections for 2021 and future years will be prepared when there is more certainty as to how we can operate. Restrictions are expected to be in place for many more months. Once again, I confirm we remain in a strong financial position, but it is unlikely we will see the same levels of surpluses for 2020/21 as we have seen in the past few years. We are close to finalising the financial accounts for the year-ended 30th June 2020 and over the next couple of months will consider how to hold our AGM. See more

13.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Our winter cup fishing competition sponsored by Rob Dalziel SURFCOAST GARDENING and MOWING scheduled for this Sunday 13th September 2020 has been CANCELLED due to COVID-19 restrictions.

12.01.2022 COURTESY BUS Our courtesy bus is currently running on Friday and Saturday evenings and will be operating 7 days a week over January. If anyone out there can volunteer to drive it a couple of times over January please let Hutch know. Please be generous with your gold coin donations.

12.01.2022 NOT THE PIER TO PUB Fishing Competition, sponsored by Great Ocean Road Bakery For one day only on Saturday 9th of January (when it was meant to be the pier to pub swim), the LAAC is hosting the 'Not The Pier to Pub Fishing Competition'. It’s for members only, the rules are the same as our usual fishing comp which allows each angler to weigh in one fish only, our scoring system is displayed in the club house and the fish cleaning shed, the weigh in starts at midday and the cu...t off time is 12.30pm. FIRST PRIZE IS $500 CASH. There will be prizes for second and third and also a junior section. Juniors are also eligible for the $500 first prize. This is a separate comp and is not included in our Major Comps which are held during the year. See more

11.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: GRAND REOPENING! THIS FRIDAY, 18th September 2020 at 4pm. Come and sample our Worlds Best Beer. Members Only.

10.01.2022 Face masks with our logo will arrive in a week. They are great quality and are $8 each. You can purchase them from CAFE KAOS during opening hours. All profits will go to local charities. Postage for those out of town can be arranged. Email [email protected] for more details. We will notify you on Facebook when they arrive.

10.01.2022 UPCOMING EVENTS Depending on the stage 3 restrictions we have our next WINTER CUP FISHING COMPETITION sponsored by Surf Coast Gardening and Mowing planned for Sunday 13th September. As usual the weigh in will start at midday with the cut off at 12.30pm. A free mixed grill for all competitors and members will follow the presentations at around 1pm. Come and have a crack, especially the juniors.

10.01.2022 NEW YEARS EVE There are no fireworks this year which is disappointing but we will be open as usual and will play it by ear. If we have enough members attending we will stay open until practical and might even cook a BBQ and play a bit of music.

10.01.2022 Unfortunately we have to close the club until further notice. One of our members who has visited the club this week has had indirect contact with a COVID positive case. We want to ensure every precaution is taken to protect our staff and members. We will re-asses the situation as soon as we know the outcome of the tests involving the parties concerned. In the meantime we will undertake additional cleaning.... Hopefully we can reopen very soon and we will keep you all informed daily. Regards. Keith Miller. Commodore. See more

09.01.2022 RECENT EVENTS On Sunday the 5th of July we held our first Winter Cup Fishing Competition sponsored by GARY KEANE of Keanes Brick/ Block and Scaffolding. The weather was awful with only one boat braving the elements but our good old reliable trusty stalwarts still had a crack off the pier and rocks and we had a total of 16 competitors which was pretty good considering the conditions. We even had a junior weigh in a fish which was fantastic because like all angling clubs aroun...d Australia the juniors are dropping in numbers. After the presentations to the winners we served up a free scrumptious mixed grill and a few cold beers which was thoroughly enjoyed by competitors and members. Results: Winner, Myself with a flathead = 2483 points Runner Up, Ric Addison, Flathead = 2020 points Third, Cody Hutchinson, Flathead = 1956 points Junior Winner, Jack Hunter = 1539 points. I weigh the fish and tally the scores so naturally I won. See more

09.01.2022 VICE COMMODORE DOUG WILLIAMS HAS STEPPED DOWN After 15 years on our committee Doug has decided to pull the pin. He has been a very valuable committee member and great support around the club, always happy to help out with the many jobs that keep our club functioning. He has been invaluable to me since becoming commodore and we have become close friends. He will be missed but Im sure he will still be around the club and always available for advice which Ive always valued greatly.

09.01.2022 FIRST TIME FISHER PERSONS Since Ive been on the committee Ive taken out over 130 different people fishing in my boat. I get asked regularly why I do it and sometimes get strange looks when I tell them that I get a bigger thrill watching and helping people who dont get the chance to go out fishing very often than catching fish myself. Recently Ive taken out a few first timers who have never been in a boat or even caught a fish. A couple of weeks ago I took out two young la...dies who after catching their first ever fish both went on to catch over 20 fish each. The looks on their faces was priceless. Most locals and a lot of our members will know Shiva Adhlkari who has been managing Cafe Kaos for the last couple of years. Shiva is from Nepal and had never caught a fish so we took him out for his first ever venture out into Bass Strait. He was a natural pulling in the first snapper for the day and going onto catch lots of different fish species. He had a sensational day. We sent him home with a big bag full of fillets which I thought would have lasted him for a couple of weeks. Two days later I was speaking to his wife Sumi who works in the Deli at FoodWorks and I was amazed when she told me that they had already eaten the lot. See more

08.01.2022 LAST CHANCE! There are only a few of our LAAC face masks left, available Gazman Lorne from 10am-4pm daily. These are the last ones available as we wont be ordering any more, so get in now so you dont miss out. $8 each, please pay with cash. All profits are going to local charities. Get em before theyre all gone!

07.01.2022 Masks are going to be required for a while people, dont miss out on picking up your very own LAAC one. The can be purchased from Kafe Kaos Lorne from 7am to midday or @gazmanlorne from 10am to 4pm. Masks are $8, cash only please. ALL PROFITS GO TO LOCAL CHARITIES.

07.01.2022 Spring has arrived along with the obligatory equinox winds which is not great for fishing but the longer and warmer days are very welcome. Weve had lots of dolphins hunting and playing right in front of the clubhouse recently and our new resident baby seal is growing rapidly. Most of the whales have departed but still the occasional sighting. I had a Southern Right near my boat yesterday. Theres not a lot to report on the social scene as we have been closed since my last no...tes. Even though Lorne has had zero cases of COVID we have to remain closed. We all have our fingers crossed that Regional Victoria will reopen soon followed by Melbourne not too long after us. Hutch is still finding things to paint so if youre walking past dont stop or even slow down or he might paint you. Our masks were a huge success and we have now sold out and at this stage we wont be getting any more. We raised over $1700 for local charities so it was a very worthwhile venture. Because we didnt have to close the club until April we will still be able to show a healthy profit for last financial year but things look like they will be vastly different this year. We will be relying heavily on membership fees to cover our costs so everyone out there please join up when you receive your renewals in November. This year is our 60th and we had plans for a huge celebration but this has been put on hold. Hopefully we will be able to have a huge party to celebrate this milestone before the year ends. We are due to hold our AGM in late November and its looking more and more likely that it will have to be held online using Zoom. If this is the case we will need to get proxies from members to achieve a quorum. If you receive an email asking for your proxy please reply. See more

06.01.2022 CALENDAR YEAR COMPETITION Sponsored by BENDIGO BANK Our calendar year comp has started up again for the next 12 months so don’t forget to weigh in any decent sized; Bream. Flathead. Garfish. King George Whiting. Salmon and Snapper. Prizes each year for the winners.

06.01.2022 RESCUE BOAT I’m very sad to tell you that we were forced to pull the pin on the purchase of the rescue boat from the Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service. We had made the decision to purchase the boat from the Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service but were told that we couldn’t operate it until we were affiliated with Emergency Management Victoria which involved a lot of red tape and could take a long time. There is a possibility that we could still form a new body, become affiliated ...and then apply for a government grant to purchase a new boat. This would involve a lot of organising and time so if anyone out there is available to help please let me know. I’ve spoken to some of the other marine rescue organisations who didn’t have much red tape to negotiate at all with their boat purchases but admittedly they were set up several years ago. We were even told that as recreational fishermen we shouldn’t be carrying out any rescues at all and should be dialling 000. This would mean that a boat broken down off Lorne would have to wait for a boat to come from Apollo Bay or Torquay which could take over 90 minutes in a moderate sea and much longer if the wind gets up. They could be dead by then. Personally I will continue to carry out rescues and hopefully others will too. See more

06.01.2022 COFFEE Jason will be open from 8am until 1pm Friday to Monday for the next few weeks serving up his world famous Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate and bickies.

05.01.2022 Well we closed, we opened, we closed, we opened and now we are closed until further notice. Hopefully everyone will do the right thing and we can reopen sooner rather than later and our lives can get back to normal. Its all hard to believe. I still wake up some mornings and think its all a bad dream. We have been very lucky down here in our beautiful little bubble to have escaped any COVID-19 cases so fingers crossed that continues. Hutch and his staff managed to open and r...un the club under difficult circumstances for a few weeks and they did a great job. Most nights we reached our limited capacity and didnt have to turn too many away. We had a very dry but cold July so our 3 outside heaters were working overtime keeping everyone out on our deck and marquee warm and our tiny little indoor heater did the same inside. Jason has closed his Coffee Cart for August and will return for the September school holidays. See more

05.01.2022 HAWAIIAN SHIRT WEDNESDAYS This was a huge success last year and a lot of fun. So every Wednesday evening from 4pm onwards during January, anyone who arrives wearing an Hawaiian Shirt will get their first beer or glass of wine free. Each evening we will appoint a guest judge to pick their favourite shirt and the winner will receive a generous prize.

05.01.2022 AGM UPDATE We have been hard at work organising the AGM which will be held at 5pm on Saturday the 28th of November on Zoom. We will also be able to have up to 50 members present at the club house. We're taking bookings so please contact Hutch ASAP. The bar will close for the meeting which will be followed by the fishing competition trophy presentations, open bar for a limited time and a free sausage sizzle. On the 2nd of this month we emailed the Notice of AGM which contained... the details of how to access zoom and also a proxy form for those who can’t attend. Please send your proxy in. If we don’t get enough our AGM will be irrelevant. Because of the lock down this year we were only able to hold one of the scheduled 4 Winter Cup Fishing Comps so we decided not to present trophies for 2020. Please check the AGM page on our website for more details. http://lorneaquaticclub.com.au/agm-2019

04.01.2022 Lorne P-12 College T.A.L.L. Project Covid-19 lockdown has changed our lives in 2020 and lets hope we do return to some normality and we can interact with our family, friends and community the way we did previously. As you know our Club has closed, open with limited numbers and closed again and at the moment we wait to see what happens next. We could not fish, but at the moment we can so long as we observe social distancing. The Lorne P12 College wants to record our experien...ces. Below is what they are looking to achieve. This is all part of our experience and journey and we hope that many of our members who have not already done so takes this opportunity to share their experiences of 2020. What is T.A.L.L? T.A.L.L (Tales of A Local Lockdown) For our 2020 VCAL Project at Lorne P-12 College we are gathering isolation experiences from our community and beyond. We want to know how the experience challenged you, how you grew as a person and what changed in your life. Accounts of these experiences will be put in an online time capsule in collaboration with the Lorne Historical Society to be stored for community members and historians. Once we have gathered everyones tales, we plan to exhibit them at the Lorne Historical Society Centre. This event will showcase stories and artworks from our community and beyond, We invite you to be a part of recording this unprecedented moment in time. How can you help us? By filling out the survey below you will help future generations have a deeper understanding of what isolation in 2020 was like. Click https://locallockdown.weebly.com/ to fill out the survey

04.01.2022 The Department of Health have announced that there are two active COVID-19 cases in the Lorne area. To protect our members, we have decided to cancel our winter fishing competition that was scheduled to take place on Sunday 2nd August 2020. We will remain closed for the time being.

03.01.2022 FISHING REPORT We had a sensational run of unseasonably good weather in July which allowed us all to get out fishing heaps. The winter flathead bite has continued which has been great because the snapper have been a bit hit and miss so if they arent on the go you can always come home with a nice feed of good sized flathead. Last week we had a great day on the snapper and caught 20 with the majority being over the 40cm mark. The next day we went back to the same spot on the s...ame tide and couldnt lose our bait. Thats why its called fishing and not catching although Ive got one mate who likes to constantly tell me and everyone else who will listen to him that, "He doesnt go fishing, he goes catching". I wont mention his name but hes member of the month. Theres been a few big gummy sharks around the old 5 foot mark being landed and the big Nannygai are still about in reasonably good numbers. Jackass Morwong or Teraki are still abundant and theres been a few King George Whiting being caught. The pier is still fishing well with plenty of Salmon, Mullet, Trevally, Calamari, Snapper and whiting being caught. See more

03.01.2022 MEMBER OF THE MONTH Chris Nisbet was born in Melbourne a very very long time ago and grew up in Mt Waverley before it was discovered by the early explorers. He went to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School from prep to grade 4 then on to De La Salle in Malvern. It was a very long trip each day having to use Bus, Train and Tram. He remembers the older boys who were prefects taking his school cap off him and throwing it out the window of the train and tram on more than one ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 The big news is that we have reopened and are back serving up the worlds coldest and tastiest beer. We are open every day from 4pm onwards except Tuesdays and Thursdays and a bit earlier on the weekends if theres a few about. We are complying with all the COVID distancing rules which allows us to have 14 patrons inside, 19 in the beer garden and 7 on the deck, which is a total of 40. Its table service and we have had to limit entry to members only. Sorry but no visitors or ...guests for the time being. We have erected the Great Ocean Road Real Estate marquee out in the beer garden and have purchased two new heaters so its quite cosy even on the coldest of days. Hutch has done a great job setting up all the signage, hand sanitiser, sign-in forms, tables etc so its as safe a place as you can get. We are running two happy hours each week on Wednesday and Friday nights with $2 pots so come along and catch up with all your long lost friends. We have been very fortunate here in our beautiful Lorne bubble and have escaped any COVID cases so far and avoided the lock down. We feel sorry for our Melbourne based members who be unable to visit us for a while and look forward to things getting back to normal in the near future. See more

02.01.2022 It’s Wednesday, which means it’s Hawaiian shirt night. Get your best shirt on, first drink is free at the LAAC

02.01.2022 PUB TO PIER SWIM We are holding our now famous annual Pub to Pier swim on Sunday the 24th of January. It’s the Pier to Pub in reverse The swim starts in a casual fashion at 3pm in front of the Surf Club and finishes at the old boat ramp adjacent to our club house. It’s been running for quite a few years now and is fast becoming a tradition. Last year it was on Australia Day so we had a double celebration. After the swim we will be having a fundraiser for the Lorne C.F.A. with raffles and a sausage sizzle. Come along and support them.

01.01.2022 ALBATROSSES Of the three most common Albatrosses we find in our little part of Bass Strait the Indian Yellow Nosed Albatross is easily the least seen. We have had one close to my boat several times recently but I have no way of knowing if its the same bird or not. The ones we see here most likely breed on Crozet and the Prince Edward Islands out in the middle of the Indian Ocean way off the coast of South Africa so they are a very long way from home. They start breeding at t...he age of 8 and only lay one egg. They are slightly smaller than our other Albatrosses but still have a wingspan of 2 metres. Like most sea birds they have a salt gland on the top of their beak that desalinates their body They are listed as an endangered species because of long lining and introduced diseases. See more

01.01.2022 POINT GREY UPDATE There is very little to report since last month. We know that one objection has been lodged with VCAT in respect to the proposed issue of the Point Grey Planning Permit by the SCS. At this stage we have no details and expect GORCC, as the applicant, will get details in the next week when the statutory time frames elapse. We have had one planning meeting with GORCC and have set an agenda as to how best to work together. Once the details of the Objection are known, GORCC and us will be in a better position to establish timelines and a project management plan. Each month as things progress, we will provide updates and how we will transition to working with the new authority (GORCPA) that replaces GORCC in December this year.
