25.01.2022 The faade of our rooms is currently gatting a facelift! The photos attached show the original faade and how it wooks today as a work in progress. Biggest change ill be two big windows which will allow passersby to see whats on display. More photos to come as progress continues
25.01.2022 The Lorne Historical Societys recent acquisition "Squid Bottle", from the Carmel Wallace exhibition at Qdos in March called "High-Tide", is now on display in the window at the Society. The lamp, intact, was washed ashore near Lorne. Squid boats operated along our coastline in the 1980s and 90s.

22.01.2022 Back in August 1992 being the freight manager at Dept of Admin Services Braybrook, I received a call from Museum of Vic wanting to retrieve a RARE Blue whale de...ad and beached to Lorne Vic, cut a long story I put things in action with our staff and Vehicles and contracted a Western Suburb Crane company, we retrieved this 65 Tonne Wale the next day, it was Transported back to Werribee Sewerage Farm to be boned out and to this day the Skeleton is on display at the Melbourne Museum. 15.01.2022 An update on the project to install a new faade on the Societys rooms. The new faade is now complete! There are some minor pieces of work to be completed but the main works are now finished. 12.01.2022 Lorne Historical Society Quiz 3 Clue and a wonderful story In the middle decades of 1900s, Lorne School became famous for its recorder bands. Hard to believe I know. One year the band was entered in the Ballarat Eisteddfod. Students of the day remember that there were endless practices and wondered whether it was worth it to become South Street winners. Those left back at school remember a telegram, Lorne Number 1 in Competition. A line of cars escorted the winners back in...to town at midnight. Ah those were the days. Many of these musicians are still in town but I doubt they are still playing their recorders. Maybe they might start playing again . 06.01.2022 Today Lachie Pinda from Working Bear formally handed over the Lorne Historical Society site, after work on the faade has been completed. The Society wishes to thank Lachie and his builders for the great work they have undertaken to assemble the panels built by the members of the Mens Shed and to complete the design of Bob Sinclair and Chris Wood. We also thank Kane Rogozik from the Surf Coast Shire and Peter Spring who together managed to bring the various elements of the P...roject to fruition. The next exhibition to be staged at the Society will feature the local Timber Industry. We await permission to enter the building to start the work. We will also announce a date/time for the official opening of the faade. Thanks to the many people who have passed on to our members many favourable comments about the new look not only to our room, but to an important community building visible as visitors enter the town.

03.01.2022 Work is continuing on the Historical Societys rooms. For comparison, heres a photo showing old faade and current progress inside and out. You can now see the the panels of battens while will be the new faade and the two big windows providing a glimpse to the collection inside. For the record, this has been a very collaborative project with the Shire matching the community contribution dollar for dollar. The Shires contribution was nearly $60K. The Society raised cash ...donations, Barwon Timber in Geelong donated all the timber battens and the Lorne Mens Shed constructed the panels. And we must also recognise the superb contribution of local architects, Bob Sinclair and Chris Wood who came up with the design and who are currently spervising works.
