25.01.2022 NOW AT TOWNSVILLE SHELTER NOW AT JCU VET Contact: Bessie K Shepherd... https://www.facebook.com/bessie.shepherd.9 Found in Mount Louisa. Has been there since this morning.

25.01.2022 Hi Team, We have been getting asked why we charge for snake removals? We at Townsville Snake Catcher's charge fees and provide a professional snake removal serv...ice. Residential Properties are $79.00 and Commercial Properties are $129.00 we are open about this cost, up front and notify everyone it's not a hidden charge. The reasons we charge. 1. For the catchers time. 2. It is a dangerous job and catchers have a family to consider. 3. License to catch native animals is (yearly). 4. Petrol and car maintenance 5.Tolls 6.Insurance. 7.Catching equipment and overheads. 8.Snake catchers are professionally trained. 9.Snake catchers are personally licenced and insured to cover you and your property. What’s the difference between Wildlife Organisations and Professional Snake Catchers ? Wildlife organisations are not snake catchers and they assist sick animals, and only rescue animals to be medically assisted. Where Snake catchers, catch a snake to keep the people and the animals safe. At Townsville Snake Catcher's we understand that times are tough for everyone at the moment. If you do have an unwanted scaly friend please call us and speak to our staff politely. We will do our best to help you and the snake. When on the phone we will ask you a series of questions to help identify whether you have a snake or not? These questions help establish whether you do need to spend that cost or not for a catcher. We do not want to rip anyone off and want to make sure you are safe as well as the animal, and will do our best to protect them. Thank you, I hope this answers some peoples questions. 11.01.2022 Our Vets have been busy visiting the remote communities of Cape York providing Veterinary care to animals that don't often get to see a Vet

11.01.2022 From time to time, native wild birds are found. It can be difficult to tell as sometimes they appear friendly. The lutino (yellow) cockateil, the blue budgie, t...he galah that talks, the over-preened cocky etc. These are captive birds. There's often more subtle differences. EG; the red collar rainbow, obviously not a local native. Macgillivary’s Eclectus is the Oz sub-species, but certainly not from around here. Did you know there's 3 sub-species of galah? 5 sub-species of rtb cockatoo. Bourke parrots aren't locals. Many times hard to distinguish between locals and non-locals. If you're not sure, post and tag an admin. I'm presently working with wildlife carers who take matters seriously and take the natives to vets for assessment. It is very dangerous practice to take an injured or sick bird home, or to a carer who'd prefer to use dr. google.vet. Yes, there are those in our area who feel they're achieving good results by referring to blogs rather than taking to vet! These practices can result not only in the birds demise, but the demise of your own pet birds and can even be harmful to humans! Did you know it's illegal to take a native baby home and humanise it to an extent it cannot be released? They have to be re-habbed & released upon independence, unless a vet specifically says otherwise. A respected carer will follow these guidelines. This group was specifically designed for captive bred birds only. I do understand it's easy to mistake. I ask you take any wild birds to vet, and/or tag myself or admin for clarification so we can pass onto one of those reputable carers. As always; If you find a captive bred bird and can't hold, please let us know, so we can arrange something with a birdkeeper with species specific knowledge. AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE, WE ASK YOU HOLD THE CAPTIVE BRED BIRD AND CONTINUE TO LOCATE OWNER UNLESS INJURED OR SICK. Admin really don't need to be looking after every found bird themselves! If you need support identifying owner, please tag admin and message us. I've included a photo of Henry. He's into the over-preening I mentioned. As you can see the head and parts he can't reach are fine, it's the legs and torso with reduced feathers. Henry is a good example of the visual differences between a pet bird and a wild one with pbfd. See more
