12.01.2022 COVID 19 UPDATE It is time to hunker down and look after the basics. That is a certainty in these uncertain times. For now, Lot19 will be closed to the public, visited only by our tenant artists treating their studios as isolation spaces. Another certainty is that the arts will soon be required to help us move through this process, to accept, grieve, reassess. Our artists have serious work to do. ... We will build an appropriate response, probably online, soon. Until then we all need to stay safe and strong, love one another and look forward to the good that will emerge from the pain. Image "Blueprint III" by Malini Maunsell, from Island of Self / Isolation, an exhibition which will now be solely online.

11.01.2022 ONLINE Exhibition: 27th March 12th April 2020 Malini Maunsell Island of Self / Isolation is an exhibition which, like all of us, has had to adapt to the current situation we face with COVID-19 and all its ramifications. Initially a small group exhibition (Islands of Self), it transitioned first into a solo exhibition and then into an exhibition in the time of social distancing. It is also a time when we perhaps need our art and our artists more than ever (artists are proble...m-solvers, artists frequently self-isolate and still flourish, we can help). On this basis, prints and paintings will be posted daily for online viewing on Facebook (Island of Self / Isolation, an exhibition) and Instagram (@island_of_self). *Lot19 Gallery is currently closed.

11.01.2022 The gallery is open today until 5pm. Come by and check out the Arts Open Castlemaine and Surrounds group show, featuring: Zoe Amor, Alvin Briggs, Dale Cox, Punctum Inc. Cameron Robbins with Maison Lapalus, Gretel Taylor & Leonie Van Eyk, Ilka White and John Wolseley.

09.01.2022 Tomorrow at LOT 19 -opening 1- 5pm We’re All Pretty (different) 6-28 March Fri-Sun 10am -5pm opening 1-5pm Saturday 6 March... Four artists from the Castlemaine area converge, driven by a sense of connection, we commit to a group show. Tobias Richardson Denis Chapman Lauren Johnston & Stevan Lukic The strange and challenging subject matter doesn’t get a guernsey here; it is a prerequisite. Instead, it contributes to the dialogue, one that doesn’t necessarily have an endpoint. The common sense of a diverse community allows for an exhibition of plurals, interconnectedness and conviction that ultimately overrides any sense of style or preconceived meaning See more

05.01.2022 POSTPONED: Castlemaine IDYLL 2020 - My Fantasy Life Lot 19 is not populated with experts on immunology and infection control. So, we turn to our leaders for information. Very clear information is available from Bill Bowtell, Adjunct professor of the Kirby Institute for infection and immunity. His opinion is that the next hours and days are pivotal in the process of controlling coronavirus. Eight minutes ago from the time of writing, Australia’s chief medical officer told prem...iers and chief ministers and the Prime Minister that mass gatherings of more than 500 people should be banned. We are, with huge regret and pain for all of us who have put in so much work already, postponing Castlemaine Idyll. In the same way that I’m not an expert on climate change, but see no conflict in taking the advice of the experts, Lot 19 is doing the same in this situation, following the advice of public health experts in the hope that the best outcome will occur, and because we care. Of course, we will be refunding prepurchased tickets - please stand by for further information. We very much apologise for all the pain and inconvenience this will obviously cause, but I’m very excited that we can rebuild this event as soon as possible! Mark Anstey Director of Lot 19 Event Organiser Castlemaine Idyll

04.01.2022 Heyyyyy we’re on the telly!

03.01.2022 Coming up at Lot 19 : Synergy- A large-scale mosaic art exhibition celebrating nature and resilience opening on 3 April. The ground-breaking collaboration led by internationally renowned mosaic artist Helen Bodycomb and involving seven emerging artists was created across multiple locations during the COVID-19 lockdown. The ambitious collaboration involves the arrangement of 450 mosaic vignettes. Each hand-cut item has been fabricated into a sunflower-inspired assemblage usi...ng the bi-directional geometric algorithm of the Fibonacci sequence. The work measures 2.8 metres in diameter. During 2020, each of the eight artists made cells at home, containing a tiny detailed scene featuring a human, animal or foliage narrative. Inspired in part by Heironymous Bosch’s ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’, 'Synergy' celebrates cultural residue and is a more uplifting, whimsical and comic vision of social survival and ‘thrival’ in a COVID/post-COVID world. Drawing on Greco-Roman traditions, the artists have also created ‘The Unswept Floor,’ a multi-panel floor installation depicting contemporary domestic foods and objects associated with eating, as if randomly strewn from a dining table. This project enabled the group to gain strength and keep socially and creatively connected. Regular online meetings allowed concept development and planning and each person knew their ideas and style could be accommodated and celebrated to create a large unified work. As Helen explains, This project shows that while we were physically separated, we were connected by a common purpose and able to break down isolation. The project allowed us to build something positive in a year like no other, amidst a stressful time of great uncertainty." The installations' vignettes and elements were often made remotely and then mailed or personally delivered to Castlemaine and completed on-site. We worked together to overcome pessimism and develop a project that celebrates the ancient traditions of Roman mosaic, nature and resilience. Lot 19’s gallery annexe will also host a salon hang of recent works by the eight Synergy artists: Helen Bodycomb, Christine Baines, Rhonda McGuiness, Ruth Maclaren, Louise Marson, Christine Nixon, Amanda Tattam and Judith Watson. Opening 2-6 pm- live music café and bar.
