23.01.2022 You've probably heard all about green tea, but have you heard of matcha? Matcha is a type of tea that's made from the same leaves as the green tea we all know and love, except the leaves are ground into a fine, vibrant green powder. Rather than brewing tea from the leaves then throwing them away, matcha is made with the whole leaf which you mix with water and drink. In more recent times, matcha has been made into lattes, icecreams, smoothies, cakes, cookies and even Japanese... KitKats! Matcha is one of the highest antioxidant foods we can consume. Studies show it helps to reduce cell damage and can possibly reduce the risk of developing many chronic diseases. It has also been shown to help prevent liver disease, improve brain function, possibly inhibit cancer growth and reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. So next time you go for a latte or cappuccino, opt for a matcha latte or cup of matcha tea. Your body will love you for it #lotushealthandnutrition #lotushealthnut #antioxidants #matcha #greentea #matchalatte #tea #matchatea #matchagreentea #healthylifestyle #healthyliving #wfpb

21.01.2022 Happy International Coffee Day!! Something I often get asked is whether coffee is good for us or not. In honour of International Coffee Day, I thought I'd share some nutrition facts about coffee consumption. 1. Coffee prepared from fresh ground beans contains many nutrients, such as B2, B5, B3, magnesium, manganese and potassium and is full of antioxidants.... 2. Studies show that coffee consumption can reduce the risk of Parkinson's Disease, cirrhosis and liver cancer, Type 2 diabetes and depression (in women). 3. The caffeine in coffee can increase exercise performance in athletic and weight bearing exercise. 4. Fresh ground coffee contains cholesterol and unfiltered coffee will raise LDL cholesterol levels. If you have high cholesterol, avoid coffee or choose a paper-filtered method of brewing to keep the cholesterol down. 5. Caffeine is processed by the liver and the health benefits are affected by the body's ability to metabolise it. If you have a fast metabolism, 1-3 cups of coffee per day can have positive benefits for your health. If you are a slow metaboliser, like those with hypothyroidism, coffee is best avoided or kept to a maximum of 1 cup per day. #InternationalCoffeeDay #coffee #lotushealthandnutrition #lotushealthnut #organic #fairtrade #nutrition

19.01.2022 Why is nutrition important? Eating is a central part of our daily life and the most important decision we make every day is what we eat. Our bodies need a wide variety of different foods to provide the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live and function at it's best.... What we choose to put into our bodies has a direct impact on what we get back. An unhealthy diet can cause premature ageing, weight issues, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. In children, it can cause behavioural or learning difficulties, nutritional deficiencies, diabetes and obesity. At Lotus Health & Nutrition we believe in giving the body what it truly needs to thrive - natural, unprocessed foods, full of colour and life giving nutrients. We use nutritional therapies grounded in evidence-based scientific research, healing the body from within. As Hippocrates said " Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food". Let us help you eat your way back to health

07.01.2022 A high-fiber diet (over 50 grams per day) is beneficial not just for our gut health, but for chronic disease prevention. When our friendly gut flora ferment fiber, they produce beneficial compounds like butyrate, which is anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer.
