23.01.2022 School provides a safety net for girls. Covid has removed that level of support and protection for millions of girls around the world.

23.01.2022 Educational inequality continues during the pandemic. Some schools expect to reopen soon, however they must meet Ministry criteria. This includes having small class sizes, which is only a dream in the schools our students attend. At this point, LOA is continuing to support our GATE Program students with their remote learning, as this wont be changing for a while yet. This means that girls are being monitored and supported at their homes, and provided with what they need to access education. Our in country staff are working at least twice as hard to access all of the girls, as they have to travel to the very outskirts of the city and villages to meet them (safely of course).

23.01.2022 Today is International Day of Older Persons, a day to recognise and celebrate the contributions that older people make to society. This is a great opportunity to throw back to our story "Girls and their Grandmothers", about three girls who depend on the older people in their lives for a safe and loving home.

21.01.2022 #InternationalDayOfTheGirl is Lotus Outreach Australia's favourite day - a day to celebrate the importance of the work we and so many others are doing to improve the lives of girl children everywhere, in turn improving the lives of their families, communities and the world! A special thanks today goes to our dedicated regular donors who have continued to sponsor girls throughout this challenging period. It is the regular support that has allowed us to continue our projects this year as traditional fundraising has been taken off the table for the time being. #internationaldayofthegirl #lotus #lotusoutreachaustralia #LOA #EducationForAll #thankful #thankyou

20.01.2022 Now more than ever, girls living in poverty are at risk of dropping out from school, and falling into work that is unsafe for any child. So now, more than ever, services like those our girls receive through their scholarships are essential. Throughout this pandemic and the shutdown of schools in Cambodia, LOA's local partners have been conducting visits to girls homes, checking in with families, monitoring educational progress and even providing girls with smartphones so that they and their siblings can access their education. An End of Financial Year donation now can help to ensure that our programs survive this pandemic, and our girls stay safe, in school. https://lotusoutreachaustralia.org.au/donations/ #educationforall #loa #EoFY #donation #girlseducation

19.01.2022 #launchtime 2020 has been a long and challenging year, but we remain positive here at LOA. Our girls are still enrolled in school and are accessing their learning through online sources, they are being supported and monitored, and we believe they will succeed this is reason to celebrate, don’t you think! Our cards are designed to celebrate the beautiful connection between Australia and Cambodia, bringing together our stunning Australian flora and the magnificent lotus of Cambodia. To purchase a card (or two), simply make a donation through our website for the appropriate amount, and download the card from our donations page. We have both printable versions and e-card versions available, so check them both out and see what suits your needs. https://lotusoutreachaustralia.org.au/donations/

19.01.2022 What's your Sunday morning good deed? How about a vote for LOA through My Giving Circle? The top 10 receive a share in the grant - the amount would be enough to keep one girl in school for her entire high school career - now that's worth it in our books! And of course, a huge thanks to our supporter who kickstarted the voting this month! #FundraisingFromHome #EveryVoteHelps #EducationForAll

14.01.2022 You have probably heard of period poverty, but did you know that many Cambodian girls will skip school when they have their period because they cannot afford pads. LOA provides girls with a stipend which they can use to buy what they need - keeping them in school. #periodpoverty #worldmenstrualhygieneday ##mhday2020 ##menstruationmatters #NoMoreLimits #LOA #Educationforall #educategirls #genderequality

14.01.2022 #BoardMeeting LO Australia and LO International met with our founder Dzongsar Kyentse Rinpoche over lunch earlier this year. Board meetings like this are a lot of fun and full of surprises. The LOA Board has some upcoming positions it is seeking to fill: Vice President, Treasurer and Fund Raising coordinator. Please send expressions of interest to [email protected]

14.01.2022 As the world adjusts, so do our girls. Srey Khouch is getting the hang of studying from home, however it is not without its challenges That is why our program continues to operate during the lockdowns around the world. Our in-country partners are continuing to monitor the safety and progress of our scholarship girls and are managing any difficulties that arise during this time. If you are in a position to support the program, it is needed now more than ever! https://lotusoutreachaustralia.org.au/donations

14.01.2022 Isn't it wonderful to wake up to good news! Srey Noi, who has been supported through Lotus Outreach Australia's GATE Program for the past six years, has completed her high school education and has been accepted into CATALYST, a program supported through our affiliate Lotus Outreach International and managed by our in-country partners at LOCAM. Srey Noi will be in great hands and we couldn't be happier! You can read her story from three years ago on our website. https://lotus...outreachaustralia.org.au/sreynoi-age-17/ #EducationForAll #EducateGirls #LOA #LOI #Collaboration #Cambodia #Australia #GirlsEducation #empowerment #celebrate #GenderEquality #sustainablechange #groundup #community #school #learning #college #CATALYST #GATE #nonprofit #education #training #care #girlseducation #empoweringgirls

12.01.2022 While the world still grapples with a pandemic, Cambodia is very much in the middle of another disaster. Flooding has forced many of the schools which had only recently opened (for grade 9 and 12 students) to close their doors again as entire communities have been evacuated. This article explains the difficulties experienced by the urban poor, which is largely the demographic of the girls Lotus Outreach Australia supports.

06.01.2022 An interesting and inspiring overview of education in Cambodia in 2020 from UNICEF

04.01.2022 Some great points from the Girl Effect

01.01.2022 Being from amongst the poorest communities in Cambodia, many girls supported through LOA do not have access to smart phones. The inequality they already experience has been exacerbated by this crisis. LOA has funded the purchase and distribution of smartphones for girls like Chrouy so that they will not miss out on an education.
