02.01.2022 PURPLE FOOD Blue/purple/black fruit and vegetables are healthy because they contain compounds that are anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and may protect the brain, heart, and vasculature. Interestingly, out of all the colours, this is the category that many people eat the least from daily. ... This is unfortunate as the compounds from these purple/blue foods are especially beneficial for the brain, protecting it from damage and promoting healthy cognition and memory. The essential phytonutrients are found in the skin. Frozen or fresh blueberries are relatively equivalent in phytonutrient content, so it is possible to have blueberries year-round. Other blue/purple fruits are figs, grapes (like blueberries, smaller is better), prunes, and raisins. When buying prunes, dried figs, and raisins at the grocery store, read the label to ensure no added preservatives (e.g., sulphites, BHT, BHA) or added sugar are in the food.
