24.01.2022 The trip to Carnarvon was amazing. It si hard to believe that it was some months back. The incredibly peaceful atmosphere made painting just so easy and natural. If you ever have the opportunity to visit this part of Queensland - you will not be disappointed. I have uploaded here a recent painting that I did of the Station area where all the walks through the gorge begin. I do hope that it will provide you with some insight into this wonderful pristine environment.

19.01.2022 Last night on our Pastel Society of Australia Inc Zoom meeting I talked a little about how to make edges interesting. This is the next stage of this study so you can view how the edges have been treated - remembering edges do not simply apply to outlines. Look for tone shifts, textural effects and shape changes where adjacent areas connect. Colour is a great tool to use as well - but this cannot apply in this black to white study. Use tools like these to create interesting edges rather than the default tool of always smudging the edge.

06.01.2022 This is an image from my abstracted reality workshop that I taught on the Sunshine Coast this month. Looking at the world in a different way!

06.01.2022 This portrait was started in Adelaide at the SA Pastel Society. I finished it recently as the initial shapes were not accurate enough for my liking. I have work...ed on a custom collage ground, created from various papers I enjoyed texturizing in my studio. The broken surface coming through between pastel strokes is there to symbolize the brokenness that age affords to each one of us as we mature. I dont want the piece to be highly polished. I am aiming for a fresh statement, that possesses some movement and a note of discovery left with which the viewer may engage. A goal always exists when I create. I think I will spend my lifetime trying to attain these goals! The striving is paramount to advancing forward in my art. Falling short is part of that process and it is what drives me further and onwards. I love the challenge. See more
