14.01.2022 Aching heart. #blackouttuesday I regard myself as not having a racist bone in my body. Where does racism begin and end? Is it in our judgments of others? (black, white or other)? Can we open our hearts and minds by deliberately, consciously challenging those judgments that pop up? And questioning as to how those beliefs got there in the first place? Perhaps that's a start. For me, the sheer luck of being born to a stable, hard working, educated, middle class family has brou...ght me incredible privilege. I am so grateful for this but in all honesty didn't understand the depth and breadth I need to be truly grateful for. The ease of my life. I'd have to try pretty darn hard to be treated like Mr Floyd or others who have been treated as a threat purely due to skin colour. That's injustice. From this understanding I can be more grateful, challenge my unconscious beliefs when they arise and use my actions to display that every life matters and even challenge others with differentiated respect. We all have value. See more
