19.01.2022 My drive around Mungo National Park this week I had goose bumps as I listened again to stories from the traditional elders! 17.01.2022 I've been transcribing the official war time report about the survival of an Royal Australian Airforce crew and one Papuan man in Papua New Guinea in August 1942... We've been fortunate enough to find some of the families of the survivors but still need help with finding the families of these men; Sgt Harrie Howes, 2nd Pilot, Sgt Casimaty 1st Engineer, Sgt. Hank Kilsby and George Edwards, Rigger. Do any of these names ring a bell? Can you please share the link to this story as we'd love to track down the families of these legends.

Mike just pointed out He also had a heart attack in the surf on the 14 August 2009...8 days before that!! Mud Larks: A group I am part of is keen to track down family members related to RAAF crew involved in an amazing rescue story in Papua New Guinea in WWII. Twenty-six years ago, I recorded my father Fred Darmody’s wartime story, also interviewing other survivors. Families of survivors wish to lay tiles on the Memorial Walk at the North Head Sanctuary in Manly. The RAAF crew w...ere sent from Townsville to rescue people from a steamship boat that had been shelled by a Japanese submarine in the Torres Strait. Poor conditions caused the plane to crash and rigger George Edwards died. One survivor from the steamship, Billy Griffin, managed to swim to the plane crash. He and the crew Dudley Thrift, Harry Howes, Mike Mather, Stan Williams, Len Henderson, Fred Darmody, Casimaty and Hank Kilsby paddled in rubber dinghies for four days to the Gulf of Papua.
