10.01.2022 My 3 tips for looking after a toddler when you are sick! Now I’m no expert but the last few days have been interesting... now Shona and I are both sick at the moment (Not Covid, we checked) but she got sick then I caught it from her... lucky me! So even though Shona is sick you wouldn’t know it... still as active as ever and eating, sleeping, everything the same... but add a runny nose and a cough and maybe needing a few extra cuddles... How did I cope? Here are my tips!... 1. Do the bare minimum - I didn’t bother with laundry or housecleaning, just made sure we ate, and that’s about it. When Shona slept I slept instead of doing work or chores as I normally would. 2. Ask for help - we stayed at mum and dad’s place Saturday night since James was away so they could give me a hand, and they even gave me a couple of hours sleep-in Sunday morning. Then James looked after bath time and bedtime Monday night which meant a couple less things for me to do. 3. Forget about standards... * Didn’t leave the house... a. So I didn’t get judged by people thinking we may have Covid b. So we didn’t get more sick or pass on our sickness to others at the shop or park c. Just because I couldn’t be bothered * Increased screen time... normally it’s a nice balance of screen time, outdoor play, indoor play but extenuating circumstances... * Meals were even more basic than normal, and I’m no chef at the best of times (unless someone else did the cooking)! So no real breakthroughs but I found it so much easier to deal with everything when I didn’t expect too much of myself. We try to be super mummies/the perfect mum which is amazing when we are able but when you are sick, it’s ok to take a step back! We can snap back into super mummy mode when we are feeling fresh and energised again and we will back on top of things in no time! We are still not feeling the best but we are on the mend... Lou xx
