24.01.2022 I have had the absolute pleasure of custom quilting this stunning applique quilt. The details and beautiful work are a credit to the maker. Originally the plan was for an edge to edge design but when I saw it, I knew it needed something else. Luckily, the maker agreed... The applique really pops. Sometimes less is more and the applique needed to shine on it's own. I believe that the quilting should always compliment a quilt, not compete with it. I custom quilted this on my Handi Quilter Fusion using a mix of threads and colours from So Fine and Aurifil. I love the variety and different styles of quilts I get to quilt each week. 17.01.2022 They say every quilt tells a story and this one has had quite the journey. This one started 40 yrs ago, when the daughter of the lovely lady that got me to bring this quilt to life, starting making these hexagon blocks in sewing lessons when she was 8 yrs old. Over the years, slowly but surely, the blocks were finished between the two of them, but mainly by the Mum. Sewn at home and even taken on holidays to far away places. ... Fast forward to this year and a serendipitous phone call from the Mum. Another lovely lady whom I have quilted for before and a lovely recommendation lead us here. The next part was a lovely twist. Turns out, we all knew each other from years past. As children, the daughter and I used to play together along with her siblings, as we lived around the corner from each other. My older sisters used to babysit them too So, my brief was to collate all of the 20 blocks into a quilt and use the left over fabrics in the border. But it was to be a surprise, the daughter didn't know. It was a lovely process seeing it come together. From the blocks and trimming, the rows emerging and the border framing it, piecing the backing and to the quilting (a stipple design was all that was needed and requested) to finally sitting down one night and hand sewing the binding down to the back in a 3hr marathon. This quilt is huge, it measures 84.5" x 94" And yes, it has a label for sure I am so blessed to be a part of this journey. From a lovely chance meeting to the lovely reveal....I was fortunate to get to watch a video of the beautiful surprise when the 'little girl' who now aged 48, a beautiful woman and a mum herself, seeing the finished quilt for the first time. Priceless. That is why the process of quilting and sewing is so important to me. 12.01.2022 I had the absolute privilege of custom quilting this gorgeous quilt for Susan @susie13099 This quilt is a beautiful tribute to Susan's late son Mark. This quilt was created with a outpouring of heartache, loss, grief and a Mother's love in every stitch.... The quilt combines Mark's favourite colours and Susan's favourite Tilda fabrics. It's probably one the most emotional quilts I've ever quilted. Susan and I go way back, some 25 years, and Mark's passing is a huge loss. He will never be forgotten and Susan has dedicated this beautiful quilt to him. I added a little extra personal touch within the quilting. Quilts are never 'just' quilts are they? 08.01.2022 I have the absolute privilege of custom quilting this stunning Liberty 'Pemberley' quilt by Martina @ava_and_neve This quilt was run as a block of month club last yr by @avaandneve & @duckadillyfabrics. It is all hand pieced using the English Paper Piecing (EPP) method. The Liberty fabrics are truly beautiful. ... I am quilting this using a combination of free hand and QBot computerised designs. Jane Austen fans will recognise the Pemberley name. There are six blocks, four Jane Austen characters and two from Florence @flossieteacakes To keep it consistent, each block (ie Mrs Bennet) has the same hexagon design. The texture is amazing as I'm using 2 layers of wadding, wool/poly blend on top and cotton/poly underneath. I'm using a white So Fine Superior thread throughout. Loving how this is coming up. 04.01.2022 I have something rather special on my frame this week (and next!) This absolutely stunning Di Ford Hall's 'Antique Sampler' has been beautifully pieced by Elizabeth. She said this quilt was done as a BOM hosted by @shiraleestitches ... I am custom quilting this but not over doing it. A quilt should always shine in it's own right and this is a perfect example. The wadding is a lovely wool and I'm using a range of So Fine Superior Threads in neutral colours to match the fabrics. 02.01.2022 I have the absolute pleasure of quilting this stunning quilt by @desley111 The variety and the colours of the fabrics are amazing. Desley chose a fabulous 'Feather Dream' quilting design which is just perfect. I am using Aurifil cotton in white.... As there are quite a few bias edges, Desley has added an extra border to help stabilise them. It's a great help for me when quilting These will be trimmed off later.
