25.01.2022 Ailsa as a puppy - imagine the size of her as she gets older

25.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I am doing the OXFAM Charity race for 2015. The race consists of a 100km hike through terrain - we have 48 hours in which to complete the course. As part of the race the team needs to raise at least $1,400 to compete. All funds go to OXFAM and anything over $2 is tax deductible. If you are not familiar with OXFAM as an organisation and the amazing work they do or the race itself, the please follow the attached link: https://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/3846/about... Please show your support and donate to our team - even the smallest amount will help. I will also be collecting donations at the salon so feel free to drop a couple of dollars into my OXFAM tin when you are in for Fido's next appointment :-) The online address for donations is as follows: https://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/team/home/19532 Thanks for your support

24.01.2022 If you have a few minutes, I would be thrilled if you could plug a review into my new Google Ad. Thanks in advance, B x

22.01.2022 This magnificent beast is called "Looky". She is a Newfoundland breed of dog. Most people confuse them with small ponies or bears ;-) She has been a loyal customer of LYDG for about 2 years and is a gentle giant with a beautiful soul. Thanks for the photo Paul - great to see her relaxing at the farm :-)

21.01.2022 Stay in the bath Ralph!

21.01.2022 Tip of the day: Does your dog suffer from tear staining around the eyes? It can be unsightly but more importantly it can also create sores and infection around the eyes. So what do you do? There are a lot of products around claiming to treat the issue. To date, I have not found a product that works so don't waste your money. For severe cases, the tear ducts can be removed through surgery but this is a last resort and only for severe cases. Day to day you can wipe the area with either salt water and cotton balls or wipes (antibacterial and no perfumes). Also, add some natural Greek yoghurt to your dogs food each day. Just a tablespoon. It is cheap, the dogs love it and (with regular use) it works a treat!

20.01.2022 Due to the sudden increase in the warm weather plus humidity, fleas, ticks and mosquitos are breeding at an increased amount.....there are some things you can do to decrease the likelihood of flea infestations, ticks or mosquito bites: flea protection (tablets far and away the best option these days), wash your pets bedding or hang out in sunny area reguarly as this will kill any larvea of eggs, flea bombs in each room of your house: Ticks - if your pet goes into long grass m...ake sure you check for ticks (ears, throat, underarms, hygiene areas), going to a tick area? Two weeks before you leave start with the tick treatment, on the day you leave for the area another dose and then two weeks after go get back - another dose - any lethargic behaviour or paralysis - straight to vet! Mosquitos - spray back areas where pet lives, citronella, limit mosquito breeding such as water puddles etc....and no you cannot spray your pet with Mortein! Hope this all helps!!!!! See more

19.01.2022 This big beautiful boy is a 'Maremma Sheepdog' named Buddy. What a big beautiful boy! First groom with Love Your Dog Grooming and he was such a good boy. You can't see it in this photo but he was so clean that he was as white as snow!

19.01.2022 Having just returned from New Guinea, it shocked me to see the level of violence towards dogs over there. We are so lucky in this country to have a number of legal outlets to protects all animals from this kind of cruelty. So - if you witness it - report it to the RSPCA - it can be done anonymously....animals are our saviours in the hardest times of our lives so we in turn have a responsibility to protect each and every one of them!

19.01.2022 Want to wash your dog at home? Here are some handy hints: - Use a high quality dog shampoo and conditioner. Aloveen Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner are excellent products. The shampoo is a concentrate hence follow the instructions on how to mix the concentrate prior to use. Available at your vet, pet stores or online. - Do not wash your dog outside with cold water from the tap - it is not a nice experience for the dog as tap water is cold regardless of the time of year. Use w...arm water to help lather up the shampoo. - Feel your dogs body as you are washing. Check for lumps and bumps that may have appeared, changed colour or size. Refer to your vet if you find anything. - Give your dog lots of high value treats whilst washing so that he will associate bathing with yummy treats - Wash with shampoo twice to get the coat squeaky clean then add conditioner which should stay on the coat for 10 minutes. - Ensure you dry your dog after washing either with a towel or hair dryer however do not scare your dog. If he/she doesn't like the sound of the dryer then introduce it slowly with treats and positivity - never hold your dog down to dry him. He will be psychologically damaged forever! - Don't wash too frequently as it merely dries the skin and coat out. Maximum of once per month unless your dog has rolled in something. Try and stretch it out for longer if you can. - Some dogs have a 'dog' smell that owners don't like. The simple fact is that some dogs are smellier than others. This is because of their glands excreting at different levels to each other. Rather than washing, try using a high quality cologne or dry shampoo in between grooms. I hope this all helps keep your pooch in perfect condition between grooms! Bec

17.01.2022 So, how do I get the larger dogs into the bath? Easy - train them! Check out this video of "Rocky" the 8 year old Labrador from Newington

16.01.2022 Happy Saturday! Normally, by now, I would be surrounded by little furry friends in the salon; running around playing and having a great time with their fellow pups. Miss you guys!

16.01.2022 Mum and Dad - please check my bum! This dog was brought to me as he required grooming but also because he had had diarrhoea for a few days. Unfortunately, by the time he came to me, the faeces had crusted to his anal area and he couldn't go to the toilet at all. The area was also completely infected and had developed an abscess. Of course, I sent this doggy straight to the vet without grooming. The moral to the story? Your dog cannot talk or point to areas of his/her body if ...there is an issue. If your dog is acting unusually such as excessive scratching, chewing, crying, is dragging his bottom along the ground or just seems out of sorts then there could be an issue. Check your dogs body frequently - especially after illness. Your dog will love you for it!

16.01.2022 This is my little man - 'DumDum' (no I did not name him). After running around and rolling in the mud he wanted to come inside....that tactic didn't work so well for him

14.01.2022 Who says going to the Groomer's isn't fun? Well, you haven't been to LYDG lately!

12.01.2022 Hello all! Today we are talking about anal glands (your dogs' of course) If your dog suffers from an anal gland issue (constantly scooting his/her bottom along the ground) then try a teaspoon (for small dogs) or a tablespoon (for larger dogs) of the original All Bran breakfast cereal in their food. Just mix it in each day. Alternatively try a small amount of Metamucil. My parents used All Bran when recommended by their vet and it has worked a treat. No more sore bum or disg...usting marks on your carpet! If anyone has any questions about their dog please feel free to send me a question and I will do my best to answer it! Bec

11.01.2022 It saddens me to think that these poor animals have had to endure such conditions. Thankfully, this kind of abuse rarely happens in this country, and NEVER happens at my salon. I just want to take them all home :(

09.01.2022 A French cut for a French dog - 'Argent' the French poodle.....after his cut he always prances around like he is in the show ring and so much better than the other dogs! He plays like a lunatic until he is groomed then sits regally on his own until his owner picks him up. Almost like he doesn't want to mess his coat up. So French - so classy!

07.01.2022 Need to update you all on my broken left arm situation, and when I'll be returning to the salon. You will be receiving a text from me in the next couple of days but stay tuned to my page for regular updates. Trust me, you DO NOT want me to be grooming your dog with my right hand - as I'm left handed :)

04.01.2022 Hi everyone... I just wanted to explain the petition I have started. Living in Newington, we are covered by a Community Strata. When I opened my Dog Grooming business 6 years ago, I received Auburn Council's blessing. Unfortunately I was not aware that I had to also apply to the Strata for permission. Consequently, when the Strata informed me that I was required to apply, I did as I was asked. The Strata knocked me back using a Section within the by-laws as their reasoning. I... was informed that my application had been declined and I had to close my business within 30 days. I have been attempting to seek a review of the decision by the Strata Committee without success. The Strata have now taken formal action against me by taking me to the Department of Fair Trading for mediation. It is here that a formal determination will be made about whether or not I can keep my business. In essence, if I lose my business, I lose my ability to pay my mortgage and maintain my current lifestyle. As a single mother of a beautiful little 5 year old boy, this would be completely devastating to both of us - not to mention the (more than) 300 clients I have amassed over the past 6 years.....Your support in signing the online petition would be a wonderful help, so if you can, please follow the link below and sign up!!! Also, tell your friends and family!!! Kindest regards and thankyou so much for your support. Bec See more

04.01.2022 For me, one of the best things about travelling is meeting all the different dogs around the world. No pure breeds here in Nepal! These dogs were all homeless however the Nepalese people treat them all as though they are part of the family. The dogs are looked after and cared for by the villagers. Some of these dogs looked in better condition than their de-facto owners. Big thumbs up to the Nepalese people - they put some of us to shame!

03.01.2022 To all my fellow pet groomers out there, this is an interesting product review. Hope you find it helpful.

02.01.2022 Australians have become one of the most obese nations in the world - so have our dogs.....have a look at your beautiful furry family member - be honest.....is he/she carrying a few kilos more than what he/she should be? Do the pinch test...grab some skin between your thumb and forefinger at the base of the skull - anymore than a bit of a wobble is probably leaning towards the overweight end of the scale...like us a dogs lifespan is significantly altered (and shortened) through obesity. So next time your gorgeous one is staring at you at the dinner table wanting those scraps - just think about how long you want him/her in your life....you could be adding many precious years together purely by a few simple changes in diet......

01.01.2022 Hi everyone!!! So sorry for my absence over the past few weeks...work has been so busy that I have not had a chance to jump online and let you know what has been happening. Firstly - thanks for all of your support- it has literally been quite overwhelming....if you couldn't sign the online petition to keep me open, I have a paper one available at my salon if you would like to sign it....again - your support means the world to me and my tiny business!!!

01.01.2022 This is a perfect example of why regular grooming for dogs is an absolute necessity. This dog had not been groomed for a number of years. The dog had become so aggressive that the owner could not get a groomer to accept the job. My belief was that the dog was aggressive because it was in severe pain from the matting. His nails had also grown into his paws hence he couldn't even walk without pain. I would never turn a dog away in this condition. The job took over 3 hours and t...he result was amazing - who would have thought that such a cute little dog was underneath that mess! - and he loved his cuddles at the end of the job before falling asleep on a comfy bed :-) So even if your dog is short haired, it is important to have the nails clipped, ears cleaned, a good moisturising conditioner for the coat along with a thorough brush out with the correct tools - besides, who wouldn't love a spa bath, full body massage and blow dry :-) See more
