25.01.2022 Indulge yourself in a little nostalgia today as you browse through this amazing photo collection from Elizabeth That Was

25.01.2022 Changes to our planning laws are increasingly hurting our heritage, and now more than 12,000 homes in Historic Conservation Zones are at risk. Come along to this free event TOMORROW to find out more.

24.01.2022 ON TOMORROW. Learn how to trace the history of a building or place with South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society. Look at how to find out who has owned a house, where to look and what you can find. Bookings essential by phone/email. https://historyfestival.sa.gov.au/33627

23.01.2022 Built in 1862, the Glencoe Woolshed is a State heritage listed magnificent stone building now run by Glencoe Woolshed National Trust as a museum. It's not far from Mt Gambier and well worth visiting on your travels. On Friday June 28 there's a special reason to visit - Palomino Nights at the Woolshed, an evening of music and fun at this spectacular location. Worth a visit!

23.01.2022 The fight to save the (unofficial) state heritage Shed 26 continues on Tuesday. Join the crew at the City of Port Adelaide Enfield council meeting.

23.01.2022 https://www.adelaidenow.com.au//d8ea646fc1844de854a9e922db More of this to come if the State Planning Commission's proposals to further reduce and weaken heritage protections are allowed. Sign and share the petition to protect our heritage http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

22.01.2022 Great to see one of the many heritage features at Victoria Park being cared for.

22.01.2022 The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has come out in support of their local community's vision to adaptively reuse Shed 26 with this motion last night: 1. The deputation by Emma Webb and Tony Kearney, from the Save Shed 26 campaign, be received and noted. 2. The proposed demolition of Shed 26 is contrary to the Design Outcomes Guide Fletchers Slip and Northwest Policy Areas which included the principle of retaining and adapting heritage buildings, including Shed 26, for app...ropriate re-use. 3. The Mayor and Chief Executive Officer be directed to seek an urgent meeting with Cedar Woods, the State Government and community representatives about options to retain and adapt Shed 26 for appropriate re-use.

21.01.2022 The Adelaide skyline has changed a lot in recent years, and it's interesting to compare what is different. In this old aerial view there are some notable differences. To get you started, just look behind where the State Library of South Australia newspaper reading rooms were in the Institute building, south of the Migration Museum. What other differences can you see? What year do you think it was taken?... (Image credit: Adelaide Uni). See more

20.01.2022 So this is progress? Destroying the irreplaceable. The sad, unnecessary demise of Moorfield House. Sign and share the petition to put an end to this vandalism in the name of 'development' http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

18.01.2022 When I visit Yorke Peninsula I prefer to avoid the long weekend traffic. There's so much history to see in Moonta, you could spend more than a day there easily.

17.01.2022 Heritage expert and planner Dr Iris Iwanicki was thrilled to see the old Normanville Police station added to the State heritage list last year. Come and hear her tell the stories of its past at a Yankalilla and District Historical Society Inc. meeting next month - bookings essential. Read more about the listing of the police station here: https://www.victorharbortimes.com.au//protection-of-norma/... (Image - The Times, Victor Harbor)

17.01.2022 Our Adelaide parklands are slowly being eaten away, and our national parks are also under threat from Environment Minister David Speirs. We need to fight back at every step of the way to keep what we inherited and pass it along to children and grandchildren. Although it's claimed that the Adelaide Oval hotel won't impact on the parklands, that is a complete lie. Apart from encroachment on parklands which are currently leased out, there will be a need for access roads and othe...r facilities that will significantly disrupt the enjoyment of our riverbank area near the Adelaide Oval. Please say NO to the Adelaide oval hotel, NO to further encroachment on the parklands - and YES - come and support the group who look after our parklands inheritance. *** Tomorrow, Wednesday 12.50-1.20 outside Parliament House *** (Via Help save South Australia's history from demolition.)

17.01.2022 There has been outrage in the community over the planned demolition of the 1863 historical Moorfield mansion in Plympton. Around 20,000 people have seen the story and many hundreds have expressed their anger and dismay. Listen here to the David Bevan Mornings program on ABC Adelaide when National Trust of South Australia CEO Dr Darren Peacock and other guests discuss what went so wrong. (Via Help save South Australia's history from demolition.)

16.01.2022 The destruction of Moorfield House (1863) begins. A shocking waste because of a failing heritage protection system. Get ready for more of this if the State Planning Commission's proposals to gut our current heritage protections are allowed. Sign and share the petition to the Premier to protect our heritage from more demolition: http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

16.01.2022 All gone. Nothing left of the magnificent house that stood here for 156 years. Just desolation and the promise of some future dog-box development. Please help us stop this from happening again. Sign and share the petition to the Premier to protect our heritage: http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

15.01.2022 There are times when we are too late to save our heritage buildings, but we can still look at the ruins, and imagine life in very different times. Thanks Riverland Deserted Places for sharing these images of the Lake Bonney Hotel that was built in 1859 by William Napper to accommodate the travellers passing overland with their livestock. "The hotel had eleven rooms, some with magnificently built chimneys and a store hut nearer Lake Bonney. Nappers private residence which st...ill stands was located in front of the old store and cellars. William Napper returned to the deserted Lake Bonney Hotel in the 1880s to operate it as an accommodation place. He died here in 1907 and was buried nearby in the Overland Corner Hotel cemetery just north of the old hotel". Conservation work has been carried out on the ruins by the National Trust of South Australia.

14.01.2022 Some abandoned ruins grow to be much loved icons, even though their stories may be buried in the mists of time. While the governor's residence at Marble Hill was one such ruin destroyed by fire, it is now well on the way to a new life. Arthur's Seat in the Adelaide Hills is another icon that people love to hear about. It has a fascinating history and connections to important people, was once a school, and also used by the Australian Women's Army Service in World War 2. Destroyed in the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires, the Local Heritage listed ruins of Arthur's Seat continue to attract much interest from history lovers, photographers and even bushwalking groups.

13.01.2022 DOOMED! This 1863 house in Plympton now faces imminent destruction following the decision of the City of West Torrens to approve its demolition for a new development. Amazingly, this house is not protected from demolition under the law. Once again, our heritage protection system is failing us and allowing the loss of another irreplaceable treasure. But there's worse to come. New proposals from the State Planning Commission will further reduce and undermine the protections that we do have for our heritage. Tell the Premier and your local State MP you want better heritage protections, not less! Sign and share the petition: http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

12.01.2022 Melrose, South Australia is a lovely little town in the Flinders Ranges with a lot of history. It makes the perfect base to explore surrounding towns, but don't overlook the amazing State heritage places there - the are ELEVEN of them.

10.01.2022 Have you seen the Advertiser today? There's a very positive piece by Tony Giannone, President of the Institute of Architects criticising the uncertainty created by the interim heritage listing of Shed 26, and calling for an independent non-political heritage commissioner.

09.01.2022 20 Metre Trees are a community group who are concerned about the increasing loss of trees in the metropolitan area, largely due to poor development practices. They recently expressed concern about the State Planning Commission: "So the state planning department is aware of "substantial community concerns" over the loss of things like heritage and tree canopy coverage but there is no mention of what they are doing to address these concerns. South Australia's planning laws are ...less than impressive and I am yet to be convinced at all that the new code will improve this at all. Their shortsightedness is a blight on what has historically been a well-planned city". 08.01.2022 Rarely in recent SA history have such a dedicated band of protesters worked so hard and so long to preserve their heritage! Whether you think Shed 26 should be saved or not, we can't think of any other examples of such committed action since the days of the Aurora Heritage Action campaign, and the public campaign to save the Edmund Wright building. If you can find it in your heart to help them in any way, please do!

08.01.2022 Advertiser story shows the neglect of our heritage- too much bureaucracy and not enough protection. We need a simple integrated system of heritage protection managed by a single, truly independent body if we are going to prevent more disasters like the demolition of Moorfield. Sign and share the petition to the Premier to protect our heritage from demolition: http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc https://www.adelaidenow.com.au//1d275f346f93683a4797464a96

06.01.2022 Another beautiful piece of our history gone - sadly this house was not heritage listed for some reason.

06.01.2022 The Adelaide fire station on Wakefield St is modern and sleek, but a hundred years ago the fire station was rather more elegant - as depicted on a picture postcard of the time.

05.01.2022 Do you know who King Rodney was? Come along on Sunday to the Adelaide Park Lands Preservation Assoc - APPA guided walk through the parklands and you will find out!

05.01.2022 Now the developers want to censor the images of their demolition of Moorfield. https://www.adelaidenow.com.au//c72490e066e1fd0abdff267fde Perhaps they're ashamed of what they have done.

05.01.2022 Captain Harry Butler was a trailblazer in many ways, and you can still find memories of him at the former Hendon Aerodrome in the western suburbs. Why not join in the centenary celebrations at Minlaton in August, it will be fantastic family fun.

04.01.2022 If you own a State Heritage Place or a place in a State Heritage Area and are planning a conservation project that will help to conserve or protect significant fabric or heritage values, you may be eligible to receive a SA heritage grant. Click the link to find out more.

02.01.2022 The final bitter end of Moorfield House in Plympton. Survived 156 years, destroyed in a week for blind 'progress'. Will infill development devour all our heritage? Time to demand better protections and fight the State Planning Commission's assault on our heritage .http://chng.it/BmjCbVYSsc

01.01.2022 Come and see how Architecture students at Adelaide University imagine that Shed 26 can be repurposed, but you need to be quick!
