25.01.2022 Fischers Lovebirds, Agapornis fischeri, in the wild in Africa. Named by Reichenow in 1887, after German explorer Gustav Fischer. Fischers Lovebirds are native to a small area of east-central Africa southeast of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. During droughts, some birds move west into Rwanda and Burundi seeking moister conditions. 24.01.2022 It's a pity that the owner of this Peachfaced Lovebird didn't do some homework on her bird. If she had she would know that it is tearing strap-like pieces to build a nest as do all Peacfaces. This species would obviously use grass or palm fronds etc in the wild, but this is how they carry them to the nest hollow.

22.01.2022 Avizandum has an excellent article on the Red-faced Lovebird, Agapornis pullarius. Unfortunately, this is not one of the five Agapornis species currently allowed, or known to be kept, in Australia.

22.01.2022 Big brains and complex social lives - thats Peach-faces!

16.01.2022 This post demonstrates the value of maintaining pure wild-colour birds. They will always be in demand. It should also be noted, sadly, how often impure birds are entered in competition on the show bench as 'normals'.

13.01.2022 Attention Queensland Birdkeepers! The Queensland Department of the Environment DES(Q) has released a document outlining proposed changes to native bird and animal-keeping laws in Queensland. This is part of a review of the Nature Conservation Act which was scheduled to begin in 2015. This CRIS, Consultative Regulatory Impact Statement, follows a call for submissions from stakeholders such as birdkeepers and supposedly takes their suggestions into account. There will be furthe...r changes made after responses are received by the DES(Q) from stakeholders. The QCBS, Queensland Council of Bird Societies, made a submission to this review which has achieved success in some areas that will benefit all Qld bird clubs and birdkeepers in Queensland. This Queensland Environment Department is proposing that birdkeepers selling ANY licenced native birds be licenced (Advanced Licence) as commercial traders, and the DES is prohibiting the selling and breeding of permitted native birds on other licences. These changes do not reflect how native birds are kept and bred. The government should understand that this is a hobby and there are NO bird breeders in Queensland operating as commercial businesses selling aviary-bred native birds. Have your say in the online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QVHZZCD (Closes 29th June). Read the CRIS with ALL the governments proposed changes here: https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/assets/documents/plants- animals/wildlife-permits/consultation-ris.pdf

10.01.2022 OUR NEW NAME: At our March meeting (22/3/2017) we decided to call a Special Meeting in April to decide on a shorter and more accurate name. Several names were suggested by members. At the Special Meeting on April 26th a motion was put to the meeting that we change the name of our association to Lovebird and Parrot Society of Queensland Incorporated. The motion was supported unanimously. Necessary legal processes will now be undertaken after which the name change will become official. LH.

03.01.2022 This is disappointing news for the Lovebird and Parrot Society of Queensland as we are one of the organising clubs, and Bird Spec is the major event on our calendar.

01.01.2022 The Entry Form and Show Schedule for the native & exotic parrots, doves & quail sections at the Ipswich Bird Spectacular will be posted online, each year prior to the event, at http://ipswichbirdspectacular.simplesite.com/

01.01.2022 Beautiful photo of Grey-headed Lovebirds Agapornis canus in the wild. Australian birdkeepers can only dream because this species is NOT one of the five Agapornis species allowed in Australia. Only roseicollis, fischerii, lilianae, personatus and nigrigenis are allowed. This is because the Australian federal government rates all others in the Agapornis genus as having too much of a pest potential, which is a completely ridiculous assessment.
