22.01.2022 || L O C K D O W N 2.0 || The negative words that come to mind and how I am currently feeling during lockdown 2.0 is Frustrated, Angry, Annoyed, Deflated and there are so many more! The positive words that come to mind during this lockdown 2.0 is, Time, New, Reset, Refresh, Restart and there are also, so many more!... I am not going to lie, there have been some tough days, tears and tantrums (yep! even at the age of 41 ) and I know there are going to be some more tough days, but there have also been better days. Brides have been amazing and I know they are hurting, I am hurting, our whole industry is, but, we are all supporting each other - and that’s all we can do for now. Some days I feel like I am totally lost. 11 years building up my business and working my absolute butt off has all been stripped away from me, just in a couple of months but I have hope - surely this can’t last forever - right?! I totally understand that the health and well-being of ourselves, family, friends and everyone we know should be absolute paramount right now. I chose to use this time to enrol myself in a 12 month Photography + Business course and it’s been motivating me to get my butt into gear and keep going! I look forward to learning something new every day. It has inspired me to be a better version of myself and to work on my business to come back from this - bigger, better and stronger! I can’t wait to be back doing what I love - but for now - stay safe and look after each other xx

I had the most incredible day yesterday with Tam & Matt and what a beautiful wedding to end on this year. Tam & Matt’s wedding day was absolutely divine and so elegant. Their ceremony and reception was held on a gorgeous family farm, with such elegance and attention to detail! I had so much fun Tam & Matt together with their bridal party and just loved their beautiful family and friends. Congratulations love birds what a perfect day!!

16.01.2022 PLAN A BIG MOMENT WHAT IS A FIRST LOOK, YOU ASK? A First Look is where a couple plan to see each other (for the first time) before the Ceremony - which allows them to share a special moment together in a more private setting.... BUT WHY? Traditionally, most couples wait until the Ceremony before seeing each other for the first time - however, it’s becoming more popular. DAYLIGHT SAVINGS With more and more weddings now taking place in the months between April and September - it’s a good idea to chat with your Photographer to plan out a timeline and keep Daylight Savings in mind. At love by shae, we generally cover this topic at your first meeting with us . LIGHTING Lighting is the key to good wedding photos! When planning your wedding around daylight savings - consider how the light may impact your wedding photos and always check in with us to see if a First Look may be an option for that reason. Planning ahead will help you make sure that we aren’t racing the light. TIMELINE One thing that really helps is having a good timeline to work from and one that fits around your day, but also capturing the best light for your photos. We have an epic timeline that we use and customise for each of our couples. We also have an app that tells us what time the sun will set for your wedding day. 16.01.2022 WHY? YOU ASK! . . Choosing your dream wedding photographer and some important questions to ask before you book!... So, how do you choose a professional wedding photographer? Here are our top three questions to get you started... How many weddings have you captured and how many do you do in a year? Why would you want to know this? You want to make sure that you are taken care of by an experienced professional wedding photographer, that can confidently handle any situation and scenario. You only have once chance to get amazing wedding photos, so you’ll want to make sure that they specialise in this genre and that their primary focus is wedding photography. It’s a little like a GP v Medical Specialist, one is an all-rounder (does pretty much most things) whilst the other actually specialises in their field of work. How will you safely protect and back up my wedding files? Why would you want to know this? Wedding photographers should have a system in place to back up and safely store your precious wedding files. The key is to make sure your files are being stored in more than one location (not just on a hard drive that can break, be stolen or be lost in a fire). Storing and backing up your wedding files is something we do on a daily basis and you should feel confident that by booking a professional wedding photographer, that they have your images backed up several times and also stored in different locations. Do you have public liability insurance? Why do wedding photographers need insurance? A wedding photographer needs to have insurance in order to protect their assets. General liability insurance is needed in case of an injury, or some kind of property damage and many venues simply won’t let you have access without proper insurances in place - so check your wedding photographer has this ready! Before booking your wedding photographer, make sure you ask lots of questions!

16.01.2022 . . Can’t believe it’s been 6 months since capturing our last Wedding, all the way back in March (thanks to COVID) and it feels like a lifetime ago .... With only 2 Weddings still hanging on this yearall our 2020 couples have now postponed successfully into 2021 + 2022. Come November 2020 - some of our January, February and March 2021 Brides have contacted us - that they also, may have the agonising decision whether they postpone or not - and will need to let their reception venues know by no later than the first week of December 2020. This is due to border closures, interstate + international guests and the numbers allowed at weddings by then and the uncertainty of it all . Our calendar is open for 2021 + 2022 bookings but our dates are being filled super quick at the moment with postponed weddings and new wedding bookings as well. If you have enquired with us recently, don’t delay in locking in your date for late 2021 + 2022 - before the next lot of postponements come through - as you may miss out on securing us as your photographer for your date . 14.01.2022 SAY WHAT NOW! . . Have you ever wondered and thought to yourself, why are wedding photographers so expensive and what makes the cost of a wedding photographer so high?! We’d love to know if you have ever thought this!... I’d like to spend the next couple of days exploring this topic with you there might be a few things in these posts that you already know and you may also learn something new - specifically about wedding photographers. I’m going to share with you some insider knowledge, so that you can have a better understanding on what we actually do and why we charge what we do. I like to think of wedding photography as an investment rather than an expense! Why? Because once your wedding gifts have been unwrapped and your gorgeous dress has been dry-cleaned and packed away, your wedding photography gives you the chance to travel back to the romance and wonder of your wedding day. It’s your wedding day! You deserve to be taken care of by an experienced wedding photography professional that can confidently handle any situation, scenario, and of course work with mother nature! A wedding photographer that is devoted to flawlessly capturing your special moments of your wedding day! BUT there is so much more to wedding photography than just turning up for 8 hours, clicking a button and handing over your images. I wish it were that simple . There is a huge amount of time spent behind the scenes, before and well after your wedding day. 14.01.2022 SUIT UP . . Whether it’s cheeky cheers with chilled beers on the balcony, or sun-drenched fun out on the boat wakeboarding with the guys, every moment of your preps matter.... It only seems fair that the guys should get their own list to help prep for the morning, right? If we’re being real honest, most guys don’t really know what’s expected of them on the morning of their wedding (and that’s totally ok!) - I have your back! Here’s some tips to make it easy and effortless and to help get you started and get ready to take on the day! If you have never tied a formal tie before, you could practice before your wedding day - have a friend at the preps in the morning, who can help you on the day or check with your tailor (or where you purchased your suit from) they may offer a tie service Have all your details in box ready for when I arrive. Your shoes, tie, cufflinks, ring, aftershave, watch, socks and any other details you would like me to capture I am pretty nifty with a sewing needle and can fasten a button hole onto your suit jacket or shirt, so don’t stress about putting them on with years of practice, I am totally an expert at these! If you have pocket squares for your suit, iron them the day before the wedding If your wedding is in summer (when it’s super hot) I would suggest purchasing another shirt - that you can change into for the reception. After being in the heat all day, you’ll feel much better having a clean shirt to change into. Have your suit pressed If you are getting a hair cut for the wedding, I would suggest at least a week before (just in case they go a little too short) then you’ll have a little time for your hair to grow back During photos keep your mobile, keys and wallet somewhere safe and not in your pocket (as they will show up in the photos) Most of all (and the most important part) is just have fun! @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

11.01.2022 THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM . . And no, I’m not talking about myself (although this lockdown is really not doing me any favours! I’m either standing in front of the pantry or fridge looking for something to eat again!) ... Anyway...I had my photo taken for the local newspaper today! And an interview for an article about COVID + Weddings and the impact it has had on the wedding industry and also my own small business. It’s been a tough journey to navigate - mentally, emotionally & financially. I feel as though this subject is SO taboo in our industry. Is it because we are scared to show our vulnerabilities? Is it because we are too proud? Is it because we might be afraid of what others think of us? I’d love to hear from other industry peers and see if they feel the same way. On a positive note, I actually washed my hair, put on makeup and wore something other than my gym gear Hopefully we get some good news on Sunday

09.01.2022 HONEYMOON V MINIMOON So much has changed this year in the age of COVID - planning a wedding - let alone planning a honeymoon! If your heart is set on your original honeymoon plans, but you have had to postpone them until restrictions are lifted a minimoon may be the perfect in between transition from the wedding day and back into real life.... Like a honeymoon, a minimoon is a great way to spend some quality time together, where you can focus on relaxing and take a break after you’ve worked so hard planning your dream wedding! Your minimoon might be a long weekend away, that is usually close to home, but far enough away so you feel like you are taking a break. You may decide to escape to a boutique hotel in the city or head to a spa in the country - whatever you decide on, a minimoon can be whatever you both desire! Have you had to change your honeymoon plans to a minimoon due to COVID?

The bridal party will usually have time to freshen up before being announced into the reception. While this is happening, we’ll happily be capturing your dreamy reception room being sure to get a pic of the cake (save us a slice, please?).... Once you’re refreshed and ready to enter your reception, we’ll act as your love story journalists, snapping the conversations, bare feet, dance offs and those unexpected moments that will make you smile for years to come.

08.01.2022 MY BIG FAT COVID WEDDING How to cull your wedding guest list... (oh yeah - thanks a whole bunch COVID!)... When it comes to planning your wedding, culling the guest list is already a challenging job to do! Who to invite, who not to invite and of course you’ll be disappointed if you can’t have everyone there celebrating with you. Getting back to a new normal may see smaller weddings return sooner and larger gatherings scaled up slowly - so it may be worth making a few lists for a couple of different scenarios. an immediate family guest list a 5 to 10 person guest list a 50 person guest list a 100 person guest list Sending a personalised text message, phone call, email or even a card in the post - are just some ways you can politely let your guests know of the change of plans. CHANGE TO NEXT YEAR If you are considering this option, you will need to discuss this with your venue and vendors - discuss a plan to make sure they are all available on the same date. This is a tricky time for everyone, so it’s in everyone’s best interest to be flexible and fair on all sides. CHANGE TO TWO WEDDINGS (ONE SMALLER EVENT AND ONE LARGER EVENT) You may decide to change your wedding into a smaller event now and a larger event once it is safe to do so try not to let it upset you too much (I know - easier said than done!), on a positive note you can always have a BIG celebration down the track - perhaps making it a huge party on your first anniversary! Keeping things in perspective, you are marrying each and everyone understands the situation we are currently in. Has your wedding been affected and which option are you going for?

06.01.2022 HOW TO GET A KILLER FIRST KISS ON CAMERA Your Ceremony where the real magic happens! Tears will be shed, smiles will be shared and heartfelt promises will be made.... Inevitably, the all-important first kiss will make romantics of us all. And we’ll be in the right place at the right time to capture every meaningful moment. But, how can you ensure your first kiss looks killer on camera? ASK YOUR CELEBRANT TO STEP ASIDE We recommend you having a chat with your Celebrant and letting them know in advance that this would be your preferred option (most of them do this in any case ). Then ask your Photographer to check-in with the Celebrant once they arrive at the Ceremony location, just to double check with your Celebrant that it’s all ok and that this can still happen for you. Celebrants can sometimes get nervous too, so there is no harm in checking-in with them . LOCK LIPS FOR A LITTLE LONGER THAN YOU THINK YOU SHOULD Holding your first kiss for a little longer (may feel a little un-natural) however, it will give your Photographer time to capture multiple shots of your first kiss. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Think it’s a bit corny? Well, perhaps a little! But, try and turn it into a bit of fun! Once you have had plenty of practice you won’t be so worried where your hands are supposed to go or that it will be too quick for the Photographer and everything will fall into place, perfectly. KEEPING IT PG BUT DO GET A LITTLE HANDS-ON Perhaps save the passionate kiss for later. A soft, tender kiss is just right! It is totally ok, to get a little hands on and embrace each other! Try not to race into it because you’re nervous and just want to get it over and done with. You’ll want the emotion of your first kiss to come across on camera! 03.01.2022 COUPLES SESSIONS . . Millie and Rick were supposed to be married on Saturday, but due to COVID they postponed their Wedding Day to next year.... So, instead they decided to do a couples shoot on the same day, pop some champagne and have a whole heap of fun What an awesome idea and I’m so glad I got to capture it for you guys!

03.01.2022 LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION . . Let’s explore a few more of those topics I spoke about in my previous post.... We all know that wedding photographers have enormous pressure placed upon them to capture your wedding day perfectly, and it’s much more than the large amounts of money spent on having the right equipment for the job. Camera gear is just the beginning and is (pretty much) used as a tool to get the job done! There has to be a skill and art that has been developed and learned by the photographer for many years. As mentioned in my previous post about three types of photographers: amateur, emerging and professional. A professional photographer with years and years of experience - is what you are paying for someone you can trust and someone who complies with all legal, ethical and moral business requirements to practice as a professional! Wedding photographers also invest so much of their money back into their business (being for equipment and education) to deliver a quality you deserve! Have you seen how expensive a professional camera is? Not to mention how expensive some lenses (and quality of glass) are? Lenses are purchased separately to the camera body and some lenses can cost more than the actual camera body crazy right?! If I was to tally up the cost of all my equipment I use for weddings, it would be well over $35,000. I am consistently replacing old gear, with new and updated camera equipment, whilst, also making sure my gear is maintained and serviced by a professional camera clinic. BUT wedding photography is not only limited to the camera and lenses, it’s also the hardware and software we use to process and edit the wedding photos. Software plays a huge part in the editing process of the images and we pay a monthly subscription fee to have access to the Adobe suite. As professionals, we mainly use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom with additional plug-ins and pre-set tools. Similarly with camera gear being replaced and upgraded, so is the hardware we use to edit the images on. All these expenses and fees play a huge part and why professional wedding photographers are so expensive! tag your friends
