07.01.2022 This beautiful soap holder has been handcrafted from salvaged Tasmanian Huon Pine timber. Huon Pine is one of the rarest of the endemic Tasmanian timbers, and is rot resistant, fine-grained and highly valued. There are many specimens of this tree which are well over 2,000 years old. Extensive logging in the past has removed nearly all large trees, but there is re-growth nearly everywhere and it is now illegal to cut living trees. However, one stand of the species has been made available for access to craft wood from dead and downed timber under a strict licensing system and it is some of this that has been used to create these soap holders.
