25.01.2022 Day 25 #millinerymaker - ILLUSTRATION I've always loved fashion illustrations and have collected many over the years particularly ones with hats. I would like to learn to draw someday and do some of my own fabulous hats. Pictured here is an amazing illustration drawn by the incredibly talented @emmaferguson_illustration of my husband and I at the races last year. . .... . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #hatdesigner See more

24.01.2022 Day 13 #millinerymaker - CUSTOMER. Today's Millinery maker post is all about our customers. Without you we wouldn't have our businesses, it would just be an expensive hobby, you allow us to be creative, challenge our knowledge and expertise, you teach us many things as you are all so different. Most of all your business enables us to do what we love, make beautiful hats and headwear.

23.01.2022 For every success, there is often many failures along the way! He's one of mine, she was supposed to be a sewn woolen #cloche, but my poor choice of fabric (as beautiful as it is) and a pattern cutting mishap and this is how she turned out....5 sizes to big and the shape is just not quite right! 23.01.2022 Day 21 #millinerymaker - MATERIALS I love finding ways to be original and create headwear that sets you apart from others, the materials we use can really allow you to do that. I'm always on the lookout for vintage fabrics and trims, often very hard to find, so when we do it's like striking gold! . .... . . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #couturedesigner #couturehats #hatmaker See more

21.01.2022 Day 20 #millinerymaker - BEING A MILLINER MEANS. These 4 images say it all. It means I get to do what I love everyday, in a creative space, with the support of my amazing husband. It also allows me to be a part of a wonderful Millinery community of men and women who I admire and learn from, and that I have been able to call my friends. I say a huge thank you to all you extraordinary talented people.

17.01.2022 Day 11 #millinerymaker - TRENDS Fashion Changes, But Style Endures! (Coco Chanel)... I love fashion and seeing what the latest trends are on all the catwalks from all the big fashion houses. I watch all the Haute Couture shows and follow designers religiously. I think it's important as a designer to do so. That being said, I would definitely like my work to set trends rather than follow them. It's important to be original, organic and create hats that suit the wearer. We must however be current and take our cues from the latest trends in order to be relevant in a growing and competitive market. But classic, timeless elegance will always be in style. . . . . . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #hatmaker #hatlover #couturehats #handmade #bespoke #trending #stylishhats #styleinspo

12.01.2022 Day 23 #millinerymaker - BRAND When I started out on my millinery journey several years ago I didn't really have a clear picture of where I was headed in the hat business. As time goes on, and the more I learn and create, my brand has established itself in a very organic way. My aesthetic will always have a vintage feel but with a modern twist and elevated sense of style. In the coming days I will be changing over my Instagram account to Kathryn Lee Millinery and will be shortly followed by launching my new website, which will focus soley on my hats and headwear. I hope you will stay with me and follow my journey. XK

09.01.2022 A day at the races....

09.01.2022 Day 19 #millinerymaker - MODEL As a #milliner I have had the opportunity to adorn the heads of some amazing men and women, some professional models and others not. I personally have never been comfortable in front of the camera and I'm certainly no model, but I'm extremely proud of my body of work in every aspect of my business and I do realize the importance of representing and being my brand. And there is no greater feeling than modelling your own hats.

09.01.2022 Day 24 #millinerymaker - BLOCKS. To say that I'm a little bit obsessed with hat Blocks would be an understatement, and the older the better. This is one I purchased 2 months ago from Russia, unfortunately due to Covid-19 it is still on it's way...aboard a very slow boat. I can only imagine the history this block has and who it would have sculpted hats for. . .... . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hatblocks #hats #hatmaker #couturehats @ New Hampton See more

08.01.2022 Day 26 #millinerymaker - MENTOR Today's topic on the millinery maker calendar is mentor, and I must give a very special mention to these 4 incredibly talented Millinery teachers: Neil Grigg, Catherine Kelly, Penelope Gervais and Bronwyn Shooks for guiding me, inspiring me and teaching me the finer points of this beautiful craft.

08.01.2022 Day 29 #millinerymaker - FAVORITE MILLINERY TOOL. Hat Blocks, without a doubt, my favorite Millinery tool. They have become a bit of an obsession. 07.01.2022 I have been hard at it, working on a small limited edition capsule collection of everyday wearable pieces, this collection has been made on several of my new vintage blocks from the 1940's and 50's and imported from Paris....so if you are looking for something a little different to throw on with your jeans or leggings whilst in isolation, the basic berets start from $199

07.01.2022 Day 22 #millinerymaker - SUSTAINABLE FASHION This is a subject that is on many peoples mind, more so than ever. It's important that we all take steps to be more conscious about what we use and how we use it. I personally do my best to reuse, recycle, upcycle wherever I can. Pictured is a beautiful bridal headpiece I created with a vintage crystal and pearl beaded silk wedding dress purchased many years ago. It was damaged, however I looked past the damage and saw it's potenti...al for a gorgeous headpiece. 07.01.2022 Day 15 #millinerymaker - HAND STITCH or MACHINE STITCHING. My preference, wherever possible is hand stitching, at least 85% of my work is hand stitched. For me hand stitching is therapeutic and relaxing. I love the finish of a hand sewn hat, it sets it a part from a production line, mass produced hat you buy from anywhere My customer appreciates that his/her hat has been carefully and masterfully crafted by hand down to every last detail... . .... . . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #hatmaker #couturehats #handmade #couturedesigner #bespoke See more

05.01.2022 Day 17 #millinerymaker - HAT BOXES. I would love to be able to collect more of these gorgeous old hat boxes but sadly they take up way to much room. Remember the days when people traveled with huge trunks and many hat boxes, taking glamorous holidays abroad on big ships? Note to self: take glamorous holiday on a #cunard cruise with all my hat boxes. . .... . . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #hatbox #glamour #travel #couturehats See more

05.01.2022 "The Golden Slipper"...if I said this hat was easy to create I'd be lying...she really tested my level of skill and millinery craft... but after a couple of very long days and one very late night (3am) it all fell into place beautifully... . . . .... . #kathrynleemillinery #milliner #millinery #hats #hatmaker #atc #funontrack #autumnracing #autumncarnival #australianmade #bespoke #art #fashion #style #shoehat See more

04.01.2022 Day 16 #millinerymaker - FACE SHAPE. This is an interesting topic. I personally don't believe that you should or shouldn't wear a hat according to your face shape. There are so many variables within this train of thought, the size and style of the hat is important to consider and also placement. So often if you move a hat around on your head it will take on a completely different look. As pictured above I'm wearing a #beret 3 different ways. It shows how the beret can be flattering and suit me or not.

03.01.2022 Day 8 #millinerymaker - The Start! It all started about 4 years ago when we opened our little boutique on MacLeay Street in Potts Point. We have only recently closed the Boutique which had been relocated to William St... over the years I had made crowns and bridal pieces, but it was in the boutique where my serious hat making started. Doing many masterclasses, TAFE courses, online tutorials and currently studying Cert 3 in Millinery @tafensw. As wonderful as it was working in my own boutique pre-Covid 19. I recently set up my home studio and this is where I'm meant to be! Kathryn Lee Millinery.

03.01.2022 Day 13 #millinerymaker - HAT LINING. The inside must look as good as the outside! For many reasons I love lining my hats, it will protect the outer hat fabric, a hat is often softer and more comfortable to wear with a hat lining. This is also a great opportunity to put some of your own personality and playfulness into a hat, as I've pictured above with the polkadot lining in my bucket hat... when you turn it over it's really quite unexpected.

02.01.2022 Awesome day at the races with an amazing bunch of people, special thanks to our beautiful friends Nick and Erica Clark for showing us such a great time. @ericaclarky_ @getracy

02.01.2022 Day 9 #millinerymaker - Suitability. "Hat's don't suit me" or "I look terrible in hats" is a very common statement I hear from women. I absolutely don't believe that to be true. My reply is, and will always be, "you just haven't found the right hat yet." So get out there and try some fabulous hats on! The most important thing about wearing hats is confidence. When you put your hat on, own it and stand tall. And remember, there's nothing sexier than confidence. . .... . . . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hats #hatmaker #couturehats #bespoke #handmade See more

02.01.2022 Day 12 #millinerymaker - HAIR UP? HAIR DOWN? This really does come down to a few things: preference, suitability, occasion, outfit and the style of hat that you are wearing. Here are a few examples of what I tend to do when it comes to race wear. If I'm wearing a crown (which is not very often) I will wear my hair down but generally with all other forms of headwear I will wear my hair up. I like to let the headpiece shine. . .... . . #kathrynleemillinery #kathrynleeheadwear #milliner #millinery #hairstyles #couturehats #hats #hatmaker #hatdesigner #handmade #bespoke #headwear See more
