22.01.2022 Step right up people, start as you mean to go on in 2018... WHAT - if you're coffee order is easy (say a skim cap) make it a bit more difficult, ask for extra chocolate on top. If not coffee then get 'the sauce on the side' of your salad, etc. WHY - This small act of asking for a little extra helps build your confidence in negotiating so when you have something big to ask for you have the language. ... HOW - well, some people will say no to your small request, to which you will simply say 'ok, no problem' OR you could say 'I know it's a bit of a pain, but please ask the chef'.

18.01.2022 I really don't think it's fair to ask men to take a pay cut - while it is awesome of Hughesy to step up - what really worked here is that Kate 'called it' - she said the words out loud, her bosses heard her, and took action. Have you asked your boss: "Everyone on my level gets paid the same, don't we?" - their body language will tell you a lot - if they answer is 'ahhhh, well, I'd have to check' - then ask them to check, then ask them how you can work together to solve it if ...it is out of whack. It's NOT an outrageous request, it can just be a bit uncomfortable, but you need to put it on the table as a talking point to kick things off. This doesn't mean you will get what you want, but it means you can learn more about the organisation you work for and if it aligns with your values. https://womensagenda.com.au//dave-hughes-requested-a-pay-/

16.01.2022 Great session with Scentre Group Financial Planning Team, in partnership with What's Your Edge? Favourite Q: When the outcome of a meeting is to negotiate a decision, what's the shortest path to resolution? A: Cut to the chase - tell them what you want a decision on and talk them through the elements that you think they should consider before making a decision. You have been hired as a subject matter expert, leaders trust you have the 'other stuff' under control, just tell them what they need to know to make an informed decision.
14.01.2022 Does your confidence evaporate when it comes to negotiations - time for a change so you don't get left behind! https://www.linkedin.com//negotiate-get-left-behind-sam-tr
12.01.2022 Great session with HunterNet Co-operative Ltd Future Leaders. Favourite Q: How do you deal with people who don't seem to want to listen, more want to talk, talk, talk in a negotiation? A: Be conscious of time, it's meant to be a conversation, so it's important for you to politely get the discussion back on track. Even if you have to put your hand up and ask if you can interrupt, recap on their points and/or add your thoughts and keep the conversation moving. It may not be easy but it'll be more frustrating if you don't get through what needs to be covered during the session, which will protract dealings further.
11.01.2022 Silence is golden AND it is extremely useful in a negotiation - use it. https://www.linkedin.com//6-ways-leaders-use-silence-incre

02.01.2022 What I love about this story is that Lisa clearly had a back up plan - AND she wasn't bluffing, she was obviously prepared to walk away....and has! Something to consider with your own salary negotiations... https://mumbrella.com.au/lisa-wilkinson-quits-today-contrac
02.01.2022 Hello folks! I am in Beta testing of my online course - Negotiation Fundamentals. If you'd like to be a 'tester' please PM me for a FREE login code (normally $97). In return I'm seeking feedback, and/or suggested amends/improvements to the course content. (I'd need you to get back to me within the next 2 weeks.)... Thanks! Sam
02.01.2022 I love the 5-second rule, outsmarting the tricks your own brain plays on you. As Mel Robbins says, it can change your negotiations (and a whole lot else) simply by counting 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - do it! :-)
