24.01.2022 Want to be apart of my creatively-different style of food recipe book due out next year?

24.01.2022 Food for thought: Apples can wake you up better than coffee! Not to be a traitor to myself as a barista but nutritionally apples contain fructose which is a natural sugar for a whole body energy boost. They also fill the stomach and are full of nutritional dynamite! Where as the caffeine in coffee stimulates the senses providing mental energy with little going to the body, and with people customising their coffees with chocolate, sugar and processed milks, which do you reckon is better for you nutritionally??

23.01.2022 An oldie but a goodie. A table I picked up in collage, just to use as a guide to cravings and potential nutrients you may be deficient in. K

22.01.2022 Having trouble keeping your skin clear or you keep getting breakouts? It may have something to do with your diet. There are several foods know for prompting acne and undesirable skin. These are refined grains as they are highly processed and they lack nutrients like zinc and antioxidants that your skin needs to protect itself. Refined sugars, as they spike blood sugar levels which causes the body to increase insulin to regulate (and some male hormones which prompt sebaceous... glands to over produce sebum that clog pores and become inflamed). Milk contains hormones and high calcium combination which causes inflammations and breakouts from too much sebum as swell. And vegetable oils contain more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 and the imbalance causes inflammation. So imagine what wheat cereal, sugar and milk with is doing for your skin each morning? Now the good stuff: Wholegrains contain lots of antioxidants, and also stabilise blood sugar levels (being low GI) and prevent insulin spikes. Fish contains omeaga-3 fatty acids and EPA (eicosapenaenoic acid) that fight inflammation. Green vegetables contain antioxidants and fibre which stop the blood sugar level rising quickly after eating. Purple and deep red foods contain anthocyanins which are high in antioxidants and maintain blood flow to the skin promoting optimum cell turnover for clear pores. And finally green tea contains anti-inflammatory antioxidant catechin (EGCG). Start now to have beautiful skin for summer. I also cook with coconut oil and take fish oil capsules each day. Paired with hydration your skin should improve in a matter or weeks!

19.01.2022 Did you know? Lean meat like chicken has a high thermogenic effect which means you need energy to chew and digest it. You could burn up to 30% of the foods calories by just eating! ( a 150-calorie chicken breast takes about 30 calories to break it down ).

17.01.2022 Late night food for thought: did you know you need to cook tomatoes to increase the bioavailability of its natural antioxidant so your body can absorb it efficiently? Lycopene is a powerful plant chemical that gives red fruit and vegetables their vibrant colour. Its most concentrated in tomatoes and has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer, especially cancers of the prostate, lung, and stomach. It also blocks the actions of free radicals that we are exposed to in western society.. Here is an article written in 2010 by the American Cancer society if anyone is interested in further reading hope you all had a great weekend! http://m.cancer.org//complementa/dietandnutrition/lycopene

09.01.2022 How much protein do you eat a day? Here are some varieties including protein shakes for this important nutrient for health.

07.01.2022 Food for thought: Interesting facts about water.. An extensive study conducted in America found that your body can usually only absorb around 250 mls of water/liquid each 15 minutes, everything else goes straight to your bladder! Water enters your bloodstream after 5 minutes, half is absorbed in 15 minutes and completely digested in 2 hours. It usually takes about 10 days to excrete, and 50 days to do a complete turn over of all the water in your body. ... Moral of the story: drink clean filtered water and not dilute it with sugar, calcium carbonate (fizzy drinks) and alcohol!
