22.01.2022 Cigarette Litter, Hyperlocal Engagement & Energy Efficiency for Apartments As a councillor we will focus on engaging corporates to co-design a litter progr...am for their smoking-employees. Visitors are important, but it is the locals that know and care about our public spaces. We will be embedded in the decision making process, crafting wanted & genuine public spaces in the City of Melbourne. Creating energy efficiency for apartment buildings, by running a monitoring trial in residential buildings in the City of Melbourne will identify how we can create a more energy efficient way of living. You can learn more about Janette’s priorities as a Councillor candidate for City of Melbourne via the link in bio Authorised by Janette Corcoran for Residents First. 21.01.2022 Straws can be a lifesaver for some, particularly with medical conditions. But the widespread use of single use straws has left an estimated 8.3 Billion straws... polluting our beaches around the world. Most plastic straws simply break into ever-smaller particles, releasing chemicals into the soil, air, and water that are harmful to animals, plants, people, and the environment. See more

19.01.2022 Please set aside an hour for our neighbourhood, for our environment. Please open up the details. Everyone will need to adhere to Covid-safe regulations for their area.

18.01.2022 These amazing, dedicated two ....... Let's get behind them and do everything we can to reduce our use of plastics and pick up litter in our neighbourhoods.

18.01.2022 A Container Deposit Scheme for Victoria has been a campaign goal for 10 years. Now that it's coming, it must not fall into the hands of beverage companies that so strongly opposed it. Vested interests should not be allowed. Please sign.

17.01.2022 Two years ago and again last year, 300+ volunteers from Beach Patrol and Love Our Street groups cleaned litter from the whole of Melbourne's CBD. Whilst our gro...up activities are suspended due to COVID-19, individuals continue to clean their neighbourhoods. If people just made sure there was no litter in front of their homes, workplaces or schools we could protect our own environment and wildlife. See more

15.01.2022 The other Corona (and other brands) plague. Some of today's 4kg of litter.

14.01.2022 What a great initiative, Thank you to all those involved in setting this Library up in Turkey

13.01.2022 May these new jobs continue until no rubbish washes from our streets into our precious waterways.

13.01.2022 Approaching 2 Billion Face Masks are estimated to be floating in our oceans.. There have been reductions in emissions and cleaner air in some regions of the wor...ld as a result of reduced travelling during the coronavirus pandemic, however, marine scientists have warned that the coronavirus pandemic has sparked a surge in ocean pollution adding to a glut of plastic waste that already threatens marine life after finding disposable masks floating like jellyfish and waterlogged latex gloves scattered across seabeds. The French non-profit Opération Mer Propre, whose activities include regularly picking up litter along the Côte d’Azur, began sounding the alarm late last month. Divers had found what Joffrey Peltier of the organisation described as Covid waste dozens of gloves, masks and bottles of hand sanitiser beneath the waves of the Mediterranean, mixed in with the usual litter of disposable cups and aluminium cans. Peltier said the discovery hinted at a new kind of pollution, one set to become ubiquitous after millions around the world turned to single-use plastics to combat the coronavirus. It’s the promise of pollution to come if nothing is done, said Peltier in an article in The Guardian.

13.01.2022 Here's one way you can help. The Victorian Government has just released discussions on the Container Deposit Scheme. You can access a short video, two survey links and the discussion paper via Engage Victoria, at www.engage.vic.gov.au/container-deposit-scheme Please go on line ad fill these surveys out. We don't want the big bottling companies to take over running the scheme saying they will manage it when they want to sabotage it for their profits. It has to be independently managed.

12.01.2022 It's that simple...

10.01.2022 Please set aside an hour on Sunday morning 18th Oct, wherever you are. Doesn't have to be Victoria. Download Litter Stopper app and send us a quick report of what you collect. Keep Covid-safe. Please tag a friend, share widely.

06.01.2022 Help keep them safe from plastic pollution. Please pick up any litter in front of your home, business, wherever... Don't let it wash into our waterways.

05.01.2022 End the bottled water rort. Each litre of bottled water takes 4 litres of water to 'make it', requires petrochemicals for the polyethylene, (which takes 450 years to degrade and often ends up in either landfill or the ocean). Plus the bottled water in many cases is no more pure than what comes out of the tap (and is often less pure than water from your rainwater tanks). https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org//silly-prod

05.01.2022 Tomorrow, Sat 19 September, is World Clean Up Day. While our groups cannot meet, individuals can help our environment by collecting litter. Please do so safe...ly, using tongs and gloves, disposing of litter in public bins. Of course, hand hygiene and masks are needed, too. If you pick up a bagful or simply follow the call to Take 3 for the Sea, we can have a litter-free neighbourhood and we will be protecting our much-loved local wildlife. If you log your collection on the Litter Stopper app, you can do this afterwards at home: Begin without timer, select our group, enter key info and select no auditing. If you pop your name in the notes section and say hi, that would be the icing on the cake! See more

04.01.2022 If you are decluttering your storage cage ..

03.01.2022 Good idea for Docklanders too!

01.01.2022 Before the rain, before it gets dark, please see if there's litter in front of your place that you can prevent washing down drains and into the sea.
