15.01.2022 Lets talk about fast fashion for a moment here . . . Big (and small) brands are contributing to unethical and unsustainable methods to manufacture clothing for their brands each year, not to mention the poor conditions and un-liveable wages given their employees who actually manufacture these garments. At very least the manufacturers should be paid a living wage! Have you ever tried to make a clothing garment yourself? It is a lot harder than you think! ... When looking for an ethical and sustainable brand we must ensure that the brand is transparent and and that they are willing to explain where their products are made, what materials they use and why. Our dollar creates demand, so if we are all paying money (encouraging) unethical and unsustainable standards for our garments and products to be made, but asking no questions, then we are giving these brands no reason to become a more sustainable and ethical brand. @lovethy_earth we are all about transparency, we manufacture our garments in our family workspace located in the Gold Coast hinterland of Australia. We are a mother and daughter production team and each pattern and item is designed and made by us Each garment is hand cut and sewn in small batches, made to order. We dont have any waste as we use all of our scraps to make straps, tabs, ties and handles. Our linen is Oeko-Tex certified which is the next step up from organic, meaning that the growing, the milling and the weaving processes of the materials will cause no harm to both the environment and the people involved in the processing of the textiles. It also gives the smaller farmers a fighting chance at doing whats right for the environment and their employees, as it is a more affordable certification for them also. So why would we not want to encourage better ways for both people and planet right - ? 01.01.2022 The frustration is real But together we can turn that all around ! Collectively we were really starting to tackle the single-use plastic problem head-on before COVID-19 reared it’s ugly head! Unfortunately the good that was done was quickly undid in a very short amount of time, this came with the banning of brining our own reusable cups to cafes, the excessive handouts of plastics straws, cutlery, take away containers, plastic bags and condiment containers. Now is the... time to get ourselves, our friends and our family set up with our own reusables so that we can say NO to all of that nasty, toxic one-time-use plastics! Bamboo is a fantastic resource to help us combat one-time-use plastics. Did you know that bamboo is actually a grass and the speed in which it grows makes bamboo one of the most resourceful and sustainable raw materials on the entire planet but anything natural can be unsustainably harvested and unethically manufactured. At Love Thy Earth we ensure that our bamboo cutlery sets are both sustainably harvested and ethically made using a rotation of 7-different bamboo farms to ensure that sustainability is at the forefront of production. Once the long bamboo plant is harvested, each straw and individual piece of cutlery is traced and cutout by hand, handmade by a small local business in Bali, Indonesia who are as much about ethical and sustainable production, the planet and the people as we are (otherwise we wouldn’t work with them). Back in our family workspace in Australia we are busy cutting and sewing the napkins and the carry bags which accompany our cutlery kits, In order to create an ethical and sustainable production line and a quality consumer product that doesn’t cost the planet or the people.
