23.01.2022 VEGANPET PRODUCT RECALL of: Veganpet Dog 1kg & 15kg bags dry food Batch # 02026021, expiry date 21 July 2021 Message from VeganPet:... "The health and welfare of all animals has always been important to us and the underlying reason why we started distributing Veganpet over twenty years ago. We are deeply concerned by reports we have received of dogs being afflicted with megaoesophagus. While we do not presently have any reason to believe that this multifactorial condition can be caused by our Vegapet dry dog food, out of an abundance of caution, we want to take all steps possible to avoid any risk of harm to any dogs and are therefore recalling our Vegan dry dog food immediately. We understand from our records that your store/s made a purchase of Veganpet dry food recently. We are therefore contacting you to advise you to check whether you have Veganpet dry dog food batch number 02026021 expiry date 21 July 2021 and if so, to please remove the product from your shelf immediately in both 1kg and 15kg sizes. We confirm that this recall relates only to one batch of Veganpet dry dog food, batch number 02026021, which is printed on the outer foil bag in the 15kg product (photo attached). On the 1 kg bag, it is readily identifiable by the expiry date 21 July 2021 (photo attached). Please dispose of this food and cut out the batch codes and expiry date to enable us to keep track of the number of bags and to enable your reimbursement. Our dogs are the heart of our family here at Veganpet and we feel greatly for those that have lost a family member to megaoesophagus, or whose dogs may have been diagnosed with the condition. Veganpet has been produced safely for over twenty years by our same manufacturer and there has been no change in the quality, formulation or process used in the product as it is supplied to us. Investigation and testing into this multifactorial condition by the manufacturer will continue at pace to get to the bottom of this issue. We are also in contact with the owners of the affected dogs to offer support and information at this difficult time. We demand the very best standards for our animals and will work collaboratively with industry bodies and customers to ensure swift resolution of this issue.
