23.01.2022 Following on from the post urging you all to cut out/cut down on fruit sugar ... indeed pretty much all forms of sweeteners, fruits and fruit juice ... This article explains why fruit sugar is so harmful ... It’s because your body metabolises Fructose not as a SUGAR but just like ALCOHOL!... So whatever you know happens with excessive alcohol consumption to the liver, exactly the same things happen when you drink your fruit juice. ... not as healthy as you think, right?
22.01.2022 Good to see Canadian doctors taking a stand against their country’s food guide Now for a concerted global push against guidelines that are NOT evidence-based and the cause of much ill health and death.
16.01.2022 TV ads inform us that plant sterols found in some cereals eg Weet Bix and some margarine will reduce your cholesterol level. But is this a good thing? Quote:Plant sterols have been touted as an effective way to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. However, a research study in the July JLR has uncovered that these compounds do have their own risks, as they can accumulate in heart valves and lead to stenosis. That is these plant derived cholesterol like su...bstances can cause a very important heart valve to narrow ... not a good thing. And they really do not reduce heart attacks .... Plant sterols do lower cholesterol levels; replacing human cholesterol levels may be a better description of methodology. However there is no evidence that plant sterols reduce the risk of CHD and much evidence that they are detrimental. 16.01.2022 Eat lots of carbs, sugars and fruits at the peril of your cognitive function. Quote: A dietary pattern with relatively high caloric intake from carbohydrates and low caloric intake from fat and proteins may increase the risk of MCI or dementia in elderly persons.
16.01.2022 Virgin coconut oil has a similar effect on your blood cholesterol levels as extra virgin olive oil ... and better than butter. If you haven’t read this yet, you must: Nina Teichloz The Big Fat Surprise. Poor coconut oil has had bad press for a very long time ... a casualty of the oil industry wars with makers of seed oils painting all saturated oils as killers and coconut oil has had a full frontal assault by these industry giants ... now the evidence points the other way.... I am avoiding seed oils and eliminating them from my diet ... sunflower, safflower, canola, peanut and especially ... soya bean oil. See more
05.01.2022 How about this for a new year’s resolution? Eat less sugar, eat less fruits, drink less fruit juice .. But it’s just fruit sugar I hear you say. Hear this Fructose is the main culprit behind the epidemic of NAFLD and NASH. Know much about NAFLD ( non alcoholic fatty liver disease ) and NASH (non alcoholic steatorrhoeic hepatitis- a progressive form of NAFLD)?... You should. It will be the most prevalent form of hepatitis and the commonest reason for hepatic transplantation. Quotes: According to medical experts, obesity and Type-2 diabetes are the major causes of NASH, but the disease can also be triggered by high accumulation of triglycerides, carbohydrates and high-fructose corn syrup. Scientific research from the National Institutes of Health shows that "fructose is a weapon of mass destruction" that increases fatty liver disease and is poorly absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and almost entirely metabolized by the liver, since cells don't use fructose for energy. So it’s easy to prevent and treat NAFLD, NASH ( and gout) cut out/right down on fructose (fruit sugar - which makes up 50% of table sugar. Honey, agave syrup, maple syrup and sadly, coconut/palm sugar) are very high in Fructose content ). Happy New Year! Sans Fructose ...
03.01.2022 This is interesting for those who live with depression, or lives with or knows someone with depression. A study showing those with depression and high Uric Acid levels are far more likely to develop bipolar depression. Quote: A remarkable 48% of people (53 out of 111) with high uric acid levels went on to develop bipolar disorder, whereas only 1.4% of people (two out of 139) with low uric acid levels went on to develop bipolar disorder.... That is a very big difference. This observation suggests that if you have depression, and your uric acid levels are too high, you are 34 times more likely to go on to develop bipolar disorder in the coming years than if your uric acid levels are low. Note: whilst the article points high uric acid levels to purine metabolism ( offal, shellfish, anchovies ... do you eat lots of these? Likely not ). .... Let me inform you the most common cause of gout ( caused by high uric acid levels ) is fruit sugar - also in honey, sugar, palm sugar, high fructose corn syrup . https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5073537/ https://www.psychologytoday.com//new-blood-test-helps-pred So, I hope you see the connection between high sugar intake and mood disorders.
02.01.2022 Come on folks, you must be getting the message by now!
01.01.2022 Yes doctors are prescribing too much statins ( cholesterol lowering drugs) to prevent first heart attack (primary prevention.) A possibly wise thing to do - and this is NOT individual medical advice, just an opinion- is to ensure your doctor individualises your risk and possibly include a coronary artery calcium score before embarking on lifelong statin therapy.
