24.01.2022 REMINDER! We have our BBQ and lighting of the barrels this Saturday night - either tomorrow or today depending on when you read this Start is 5pm. Bring a chair, something to cook and, if so inclined, something to burn. Come relax, catch up on local happenings and debate the value of Daylight Savings.

23.01.2022 Hi all. We are trying something new. Instead of hand-delivering flyers for our next event we are just going to use electronic media. So, when you receive this, please check in with your neighbours and let them know and encourage them to join our Facebook Page. We've had a request for another lighting of the LoLo barrels so we have planned one for the last night before Daylight Savings starts. Bring a chair, something to cook and, if so inclined, something to burn. Guarenteed to be a relaxed casual affair.

22.01.2022 We have a problem. We have persistent hooning on the Lower Longley Hall Oval. It is disturbing the neighbours and it is destroying the grounds. Kingborough Council have been made aware of the problem and have started erecting a fence to obstruct uncontrolled entry onto the oval. Yesterday it was noticed that one of the new fence posts had been pushed over and there were fresh marks over the oval. This behaviour needs to stop. It is unlawful vandalism of public property and a disturbance to the neighbourhood. It is also a waste of Council funding as they are forced to erect structures to obstruct access and remediate the grounds. It also means we cannot leave the grounds open for community access. Please contact us if you can provide any information regarding these offences.

19.01.2022 Hall committee member Kirilee brought along some of her pets for the children (and adults) to admire at the Christmas Barbeque.

16.01.2022 ATTENTION - FEEDBACK REQUESTED HUON HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION From the Department of State Growth - As well as upgrading the Huon Highway and Sandfly Road intersection they are also applying to the Commissioner for Transport to reduce the speed limit on the section of the Huon Highway from the cemetery for 4.1 km towards Hobart. They are seeking feedback as per the attached flyer. You can provide feedback via an interactive map here: https://stategrowthtas.mysocialpin...point.com/huon-highway-vi Please contribute as a number of our community have been impacted by road crashes in the area including the stretch some 400m further west of the cemetery. 08.01.2022 A few of us braved last nights cold for Dark LoLo. BBQ food, toasted marshmallows, and good company were enjoyed by all.

06.01.2022 Hi All. Just a note from your Hall Management Committee. We were planning an End of Daylight Savings BBQ but have decided to defer our next get together. COVID-19 is in our community. The more we all socially distance ourselves and minimise contact between people the better we can manage the spread of this virus and the subsequent demands on our health services. ... So while we would love to see you all we would love even more to know that you are all safe and well. Look after yourselves. Look after friends, family and neighbours. If you know of someone who has been directed to self-isolate then give them a call. See if there is anything they need that you can drop off at their door step or if they need help looking after animals or others. If you need help yourself then please call out. Those that can - will. Let’s all get through this together.

03.01.2022 Huon Highway Speed Limit Update - released today. The Department of State Growth is reducing the speed limit from 100 km/h to 80 km/h on the Huon Highway at Vinces Saddle, in both directions of travel, for about 4.1 kilometres from the cemetery at Lower Longley travelling towards Hobart. This will add approximately half a minute to travel time through this section. ... There is a clear case for reducing the speed limit at Vinces Saddle on the Huon Highway for safety reasons. This section of the highway is steep, winding and has one of the highest crash rates on the entire State road network. There have been 81 reported crashes on this section of road in the last five years. The most common type of crash is loss-of-control involving a single vehicle, which indicates that motorists are travelling too fast. Crashes are evenly distributed across both the time of year and time of day, with no apparent influence due to weather. In September 2019, the Department consulted with road users on a proposal to extend the speed reduction by 1.5 kilometres to include the Sandfly Road intersection. The Department did not apply to the Commissioner for Transport to include the intersection. A number of factors were taken into consideration including: the relevant Australian road engineering standards, feedback from road users and the Department’s commitment to upgrade the intersection. The full community consultation and feedback report is available online. In total, 296 people submitted feedback. At Sandfly Road intersection, 64 per cent of submissions opposed the speed limit reduction and 36 per cent supported it. Although the consultation was only focused on Sandfly Road intersection, a number of submissions were also made about the speed reduction at Vinces Saddle. For Vinces Saddle, 78 per cent of submissions expressed opposition to the speed limit change and 22 percent supported it. The Department is proceeding with this speed reduction for safety reasons. Research tells us that reductions of 10 km/h in travelling speed can lead to a 25 per cent reduction in serious casualties. The Commissioner approves speed limits on all roads in Tasmania and will consider recommendations based on compliance with Australian Standards, road characteristics, crash history and if a change to the speed limit makes sense to road users.
