19.01.2022 The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) confirms the death of a volunteer firefighter at Hill End in the Central West region. Jim Shanahan, a member of the Hill E...nd Rural Fire Brigade, had returned to the station after attending a vehicle fire in Hill End when he suffered a suspected heart attack early this morning. Fellow volunteers provided initial medical assistance including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. They were supported by NSW SES members, NSW Police officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics, however tragically Jim passed away. NSW RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers said the Service's condolences are with Jim’s family and friends, fellow crew, brigade members and the Hill End community. 05.01.2022 Bush Fire Fact - Don't give fire a chance #getreadyweekend

04.01.2022 A fitting farewell for Captain Ed Cameron today. The longest serving captain of Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade was respected by so many within the Hawkesbury and... further afield. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fellow volunteers on what has been a difficult day for all those who knew him. Thank you for you long and distinguished service to your community, Ed. Rest in peace.

04.01.2022 Seven Sleeps till our Get Ready Day. So whats the point? Everything has burnt hasn't it? I don't have time? These are some of the comments I've received over the past few weeks and I'd like to answer them.... 1) Whats the point? - to share lessons learned from last fire season. Why did some houses survive whilst others didn't? Why do Bushfire Survival Plans work? What do I need to know? Can you get a truck down my driveway? What can I do to assist my local volunteer brigade? 2) Everything has burnt? No. Look south of the Colo River and this will answer your question. There are large tracts of bush not impacted by the the last fire season. 3) I don't have time? We are better off having this chat now rather than trying to have it during the middle of the fire season with a fire bearing down on your place and between the stress of making decisions for your family, what do I do with the pets, which way out? We will be running to strict COVID guidelines. Hope to see you there. Excerpts from Upper Colo page this concerns Lower Portland area as well Lower Portland Station will be open from 11-2 come and say hi we are hear you help

04.01.2022 Thankyou for your service
