25.01.2022 When lawyers, report writers & the family law system tell you to ‘not mention the family violence’ that has systematically occurred. Whose interests come first? The victim survivor’s and/or any children who are actually victim survivors in their own right?... Or, the perpetrators? Victim-survivors will never be silenced. https://amp.news.com.au///80fc9dc3616368ddc0f2cffd59a9a6b8
25.01.2022 At the time, she had to defend him in public or face terrible consequences. Now, she is angry at how cynically he was allowed to control the narrative. "It was covered extremely badly," she says. "He was made into a joke, a punchline. That was completely wrong. No one stopped to think for a second, 'Is she safe going home with this person?' I was just a teenager."

22.01.2022 Almost 60 per cent of practitioners said the COVID-19 pandemic had increased the frequency of violence against women. Half of respondents said the severity of violence had increased. The number of first-time family violence reports had gone up for 42 per cent of practitioners surveyed.... Practitioners themselves were struggling working from home, which was "wreaking havoc" on their boundaries and mental health.
22.01.2022 He can’t be serious. Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon needs to be removed from his position of authority as his comments represent overt victim blaming. This is a case of rape. Perpetrators need to be made accountable. Period. ... Alcohol does not make anyone rape another person. "I think it's been one of those alcohol events that have had a very, very serious consequence for all concerned." (Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon) https://amp-abc-net-au.cdn.ampproject.org//article/13026424
22.01.2022 My personal response to the latest family law inquiry - an opinion piece written by our STOP Domestic Violence Conference committee member and ambassador, Liana Papoutsis. https://hubs.li/H0C-FnT0
21.01.2022 When we actually talk about protecting victim survivors of family violence, we actually have to do it, not just pay lip service to it. This is an appalling decision made by a judicial officer. A Queensland court has overturned a suspended jail sentence and conviction handed to a police officer who hacked into a confidential computer system and leaked the address of a domestic abuse victim to her violent former partner.
21.01.2022 Last year, Victoria Police responded to 49% more reports of family domestic violence incidents on Christmas Day. This is not ok. We can do better and make 2020 a #SafeSillySeason by questioning traditional gender roles. ... When we respect one another, we can eliminate men's violence against women. Remember, help is always available. Police - 000 1800RESPECT - 1800 737 732 Men’s Referral Service - 1300 766 491
21.01.2022 Staying safe during the coronavirus pandemic The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we live. But there's another, sinister phenomenon placing lives at stake. The shadow pandemic - put plainly, physical distancing measures, compounded by the multitude of stressors related to COVID-19 have led to an increase in family violence. https://youtu.be/0kMHgDZTomU
17.01.2022 "The fact that the police didn't bring a prosecution and an individual woman, a victim of family violence had to take those steps, will hopefully highlight the significant failings in policing domestic violence."
17.01.2022 It takes a tower of strength & courage to leave an abusive & violent relationship. This man here, my dad, my cliched hero, not only instilled these traits in me, but ALWAYS reminded me to believe in ME. And so finally, I left a relationship that was far less than anyone deserved. ... My dad, his legacy, is now my life’s work. Happy Father’s day dad #domesticviolence #genderequality #livedexperience #women #humanrights
16.01.2022 The escalation of family violence is one of the unintended consequences of a government-directed public health lockdown. The sledgehammer hit to women’s employment is another. Together, they increase the entrapment and the severity of family violence which women and children are experiencing.... Greater steps need to be urgently taken by the Government to address this gendered crisis.
13.01.2022 2020 continued to be a year of working to prevent family violence with amazing individuals- you all know who you are. If Covid19 taught us anything, it was that victim survivors must be at the centre of everything we do from primary prevention to crisis management. This comes at a huge personal cost to those with lived experience, however, we wouldn’t do anything different as family violence is the silent pandemic in this country.... 2021 will be no different. My Life’s work. Speaking my truth as a family violence survivor & thriver-NOT my shame, but my strength #stopfamilyviolence

12.01.2022 Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. What’s the best thing about getting older? Being able to share wisdom and advice with your kids and grandkids, according to granddad Ray. Watch this chat between Ray and his granddaughter Daisy, where they talk about how they’ve stayed in touch during COVID, how the world has changed, and what advice Ray has for his grand-daughter.
12.01.2022 Wrong headline. What has happened here is, ‘Entitled man kills ex-partner as she ended the relationship.’... Violence against women such as this, ending in murder is the ultimate form of male entitlement , power & control over a victim, writ large. Full. Stop.
11.01.2022 How? A celebrity psychologist, who was used by the Family Court as an expert in custody disputes, has admitted to sexually abusing children decades earlier.

06.01.2022 I work with Phil Cleary in what can only be described as the relentless fight against family violence. I have also met members of Phil’s beautiful family. Vicky’s murder changed this family forever. It is our collective responsibility to change the embedded attitudes which lead to all forms of Family Violence towards women, including murder.... It is impossible not to be inspired and to learn from a man such as Phil Cleary, whose love for his murdered sister Vicky is infinite
