Weve been watching videos by National Geographics to learn about different animals and extract key pieces of information that we can use in pieces of informative writing. We watch each short video 3 times. First we just listen, second we pause after shorter sections and she records anything she has heard she found interesting and the final time through I give her some key questions to focus on retrievin...g answers to. 21.01.2022 Little O spent some time in her session this week building her confidence with the split strategy for addition and applying her understanding of algorithms to help solve each equation. Breaking up each number using place value helped her to clearly see values she could add together. There are multiple strategies that students can use to solve addition problems. 15.01.2022 Little A is focusing on identifying numbers up to 100 and sequencing them from any given number. Our first activity involves her placing numbers on the hundreds chart that are randomly selected. We then progress to a sequencing activity where she is given two numbers such as 5,6 and she needs to identify the next four numbers in the sequence. Once she masters this skill we will progress to ordering numbers. The hundreds chart is a perfect way to assist little learners in noti...cing patterns in numbers, skip counting and developing number sense. It can be used to count by tens on and off the decade, discuss before and after any given number as well as sequence or order numbers. She practiced making contractions from words I provided and also showing the words that make up contractions. 05.01.2022 One of the areas this little learner is developing is her knowledge of numbers. At the moment were focusing on numbers up to 50. We began earlier this year by starting with numbers up to 10 which she placed in order and have progressed up to 50 at her pace. She can now also place her numbers randomly on the board rather than in order as her understanding has grown. Each week she shows more confidence and understanding in this concept. Throughout this activity, she uses her k...nowledge of counting as well as place value to correctly position each number. We started with only working from 1-20 and now do 1-100. To link our hundreds chart to other mathematical concepts we began by focusing on numbers before and after. We then looked at sequencing of numbers and have now progressed to ordering numbers from smallest to largest. Little H sees two digit numbers in reverse order at times so we c...heck that the number she needs is the number she is thinking about.
