23.01.2022 Christmas is not far away. I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very safe New Year. Great photo with my fellow Councillors.
22.01.2022 This is something that was imperative for the safety of the public. Great to see the council moving swiftly. I have received many concerns from local ratepayers and residents and I look forward to seeing the repairs carried out.
22.01.2022 BEFORE & AFTER || Native seedlings have been added to three large landslips on Murphy Street, Port Douglas in a bid to re-vegetate the repaired hill slopes. ...Council is nearing the end of the $3.1 million repairs on the street, which required more than 1500 cubic metres of debris to be removed after a torrential downpour March 2018. The project was jointly funded by Douglas Shire Council, the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). 20.01.2022 Remember the torrential rainfall that caused the Murphy St landslip in March 2018? Take a look at the great work completed to repair and strengthen the site.... The landslips are expected to green up in coming weeks after seeds and growth mixture were sprayed onto the slopes. Read more here https://bit.ly/330hc03
18.01.2022 Are you aware that in 2014 the State Government with no consideration, no consultation and no protests built a bridge fully funded into the Daintree National Pa...rk from the north across the Bloomfield River allowing vehicles to enter with easier access. Don’t be fooled by the hypocrisy and games being played by the opponents not wanting you to have your say. According to them only 5% wanted a bridge, but suddenly they feel the need to contact UNESCO demanding they intervene. This is about open, honest consultation... Have your say vote for what you want... http://douglassurvey.com

06.01.2022 Have you come across any of these weird looking things while strolling along the beach? This canister which contained aluminium phosphide pellets was found on... a remote beach in Far North QLD last week. If exposed to moisture, flammable, toxic phosphine gas is produced from the pellets. It can affect your respiratory and circulatory system if you come into contact with it. If you see something that resembles one of these canisters, do not touch it If you’re in a remote area with no mobile phone coverage, you can take photos of the canister and surrounding area and record the latitude and longitude (if safe to do so) to relay to the authorities when you can. If you do have coverage, call Triple Zero and ask for ‘fire’. Firefighters are trained to respond to HAZMAT incidents and will be able to safely remove a canister before making sure the area is safe. 03.01.2022 An Open letter to the Douglas Community Dear Douglas Community, It saddens me that I am needing to write to you to set the record straight about the half-truths..., propaganda and outright lies being published by a community blogging group calling itself Douglas News Network, which was started by the former Mayor’s husband, an unsuccessful candidate and their friends, after the recent election was called with me as the successor. I wish to make this matter absolutely clear: The Office of Independent Assessor has confirmed that the process used to suspend negotiations of the Daintree Ferry contract via a Mayoral Minute was 100% compliant with the Local Government Regulations 2012. Strong legal advice also backs the CEO who was doing his due diligence and trying to get the best value for ratepayers during contract negotiations for the Daintree River Crossing the biggest contract Council has on its books. These negotiations were not complete so could not be signed prior to caretaker mode. There is no risk to compensation with the contract still in negotiation as Council entered caretaker mode. The propaganda peddled around by a small group of disgruntled residents is frankly embarrassing. They are adamant to provoke and divide this community, as you the Douglas Shire community, did not choose their representative. Instead of accepting the outcome, they continue to run a misinformation campaign backed by paid social media advertising in an attempt to degrade the reputation of myself, the council’s CEO and the operation of this council. Of course, this small group has every right to an opinion, as everyone does in a healthy democracy. However, be truthful and when you use social media or the internet as a tool call it that - opinions. Do not try to insult our community’s intelligence by calling yourselves a news network. I challenge DNN to rename themselves as a community blog or community newsletter because that is certainly what they are, and not a news service. A news service is charged with being impartial, fair and giving both sides of a story through the eyes of a trained and experienced journalist. Any reasonable news service that performed like this group would be hauled into a media association’s code of ethics and tribunal situation. There are overarching bodies such as the Office of Independent Assessor, The Queensland Ombudsman or the Crime and Corruption Commission, who are well equipped to ensure your Council is acting lawfully and in the best interests of the Douglas Shire community. In a crisis stage of pandemic like this, with nearly all businesses and residents heavily effected, you would think that the community as a whole would be working together to garner the best possible outcomes for its residents and not intentionally inflaming discontent in this community by inciting division for nothing more than their own personal gain and agenda.
